PakistaniDenzel··on Odin, Wikipedia and engagement farming
This is my lived experience /s
PakistaniDenzel··on Odin, Wikipedia and engagement farming
yep the group constantly going on about how "inclusive" they are are typically the least inclusive
PakistaniDenzel··on Odin, Wikipedia and engagement farming
Funny how GearsDatapacks (https://github.com/gearsdatapacks) votes to delete the Odin page because it's "non-notable" yet is a core member of the non-notable Gleam language which shockingly has a Wikipedia page
PakistaniDenzel··on Global Intelligence Crisis
It will still be decades before necessities (housing, food, etc.) deflate. How long will it take to develop humanoid AI robots that can manufacture/farm/build, and then how long until that gets widespread adoption and then lead to deflation? If this scenario plays out, people will be jobless and poor long before that happens.
PakistaniDenzel··on Ireland rolls out basic income scheme for artists
If they didn't have this restriction everyone would suddenly be an "artist" and would claim the money.
PakistaniDenzel··on What caused the 'baby boom'? What would it take to have another?
No - being a mom and having to work full time sucks. Being a full time mom probably isn't that bad.
PakistaniDenzel··on GitHub reveals how software engineers are purging federal databases
Everyone had to do the same shit with the master->main thing
PakistaniDenzel··on UK's hardware talent is being wasted
This is true but there are many policies that the UK could copy from other countries like Singapore that would work much better than what they are currently doing
PakistaniDenzel··on UK's hardware talent is being wasted
> The UK's economic outcomes have been similar to comparable European economies (like Germany) and better than some (like France)

Who says those countries were well governed though? IMO they are all run by idealogical morons

PakistaniDenzel··on A marriage proposal spoken in office jargon
it only works with other white collar people who have heard the same jargon, normal people in the real world just won't understand what you're saying, so it's just bad communication
PakistaniDenzel··on Eating fewer calories can ward off ageing
There's a huge gap between eating fewer calories and being obese...
PakistaniDenzel··on Oregon decriminalized hard drugs – early results aren’t encouraging
> Reads: People hid their drug use successfully.

Reads: Someone who can't comprehend that a lot of people actually don't want to do drugs.

PakistaniDenzel··on Ask HN: How is the SVB situation affecting your startup?
it's trivial to figure out the company from his username + bio though..
PakistaniDenzel··on Germany refuses to agree to EU ban on new fossil fuel cars from 2035
The EV supply chain is even more complicated when it comes to geopolitics, wars etc.
PakistaniDenzel··on Hotels turn to robots and room cleanings every 4 days to ease staffing shortages
It's equivalent to the shrinkflation you see in supermarkets, I wouldn't call that a discount
PakistaniDenzel··on I told my team to pause our $750K/month Twitter ads budget last week
It's always fun trying to translate sentences from corporate types to normal english: "running a team that deploys about $80M in ad spend/year." = "running a team that spends $80M on ads every year"
PakistaniDenzel··on Toptal trying to sue us for saying there are Toptal alternatives that cost less
What happens if you respond to something like this with a simple "Fuck off"?
PakistaniDenzel··on The trimodal nature of software salaries in the Netherlands and Europe (2021)
If you were in the UK you would get a PT appointment 6 months in the future and told to rest and take painkillers (which you buy yourself). Or you pay out of pocket for a private specialist to actually get help.
PakistaniDenzel··on The end of the world is just beginning for shipping
Look at Russia's attempts since ~2006 to basically throw money at their fertility problem and see how well it has worked out for them. There is just no actual need like there used to be (farm labor) for kids these days. Unless house prices crash such that people on minimum wage can afford a large house and still have lots of disposable income to put towards children I don't see how this can be solved with money.

A cultural shift just won't occur in the span of a few years and would likely only be possible from the next generation onwards, but by then the damage has already been done. Maybe 50-100 years from now after "the end of the world" mindsets will change and we'll see a big repopulation.

PakistaniDenzel··on Historic fertilizer crunch threatens food security
When food prices double/triple/quadruple in the next few years I think people will quickly adapt simply because they won't be able to afford to throw out any food.
PakistaniDenzel··on Twitch millionaire: The loneliness and rage of the Internet’s new rock stars
This guy makes $2.4m a year, he can just save up for a year then pivot to a persona/game that's less demanding.
PakistaniDenzel··on Show HN: I made a movie recommendation app based on your mood
Maybe the recommendations just aren't that good in that case? If they were good wouldn't people hit play?
PakistaniDenzel··on Singapore’s tech-utopia and surveillance state
Anecdote from when I lived there: Some landlords would prefer not to have Indian tenants to avoid them stinking the kitchen out as they often cook very aromatic food.
PakistaniDenzel··on MacType: Better Font Rendering for Windows
Yup definitely agree with this. MacOS rendering is horrendous on normal monitors, it only looks good on 4k monitors, whereas Windows looks decent on everything.
PakistaniDenzel··on San Francisco Organized Shoplifting Surge Prompts Target to Cut Operating Hours
There is a law, it was broken and the person was sentenced. I'd rather live in a place that enforces laws rather than one where people run loose, but to each their own I suppose.

Yes I do not live there currently (as you have noticed by my previous comments) but that is where I consider myself "from".

PakistaniDenzel··on San Francisco Organized Shoplifting Surge Prompts Target to Cut Operating Hours
The video at the top of the page: "Police Seek Victim After Woman's Hair Set Alight on San Francisco Bus"

San Francisco sounds like a lovely place...

PakistaniDenzel··on The bullshit-jobs thesis may be bullshit
As someone who has worked a bullshit cyber security job in government, I will say 50% is a conservative estimate. Our team had 9 people in it: 1 manager, 6 junior-mid level engineers and 2 senior engineers. The only ones that did any actual work were the senior engineers. The junior-mid engineers literally did nothing for months on end. The manager would disappear all week only to turn up on Friday mornings to give "corporate update" presentations to the team.
PakistaniDenzel··on Ask HN: What tech job would let me get away with the least real work possible?
What are these lucrative high-margin industries?
PakistaniDenzel··on Ask HN: What tech job would let me get away with the least real work possible?
The second route sounds like something that would be perfect for me. I assume you are in the UK, how does IR35 affect that nowadays?
