Paianni··on EU was set to ban internal combustion engine cars, then Germany changed its mind
A lot of it would have to be localised.
Paianni··on LED lighting badly suppresses human melatonin production at night
Are they low-voltage lamps? (usually have a GU5.3 base). If they are powered by old transformers intended for halogen lamps it might be worth changing the transformers to ones meant for LEDs.

Incidentally if there are dimmer switches in the circuits then those might have to be changed too.

Paianni··on AMD Grabs over 30% CPU Market Share as Intel Continues to Decline
AMD has the edge on performance per watt though.
Paianni··on Shoichiro Toyoda, who turned Toyota into global automaker, has died
The 1AZ-FSE was their first GDI engine, it was fitted to the T220 Avensis back in the early noughts.

Incidentally, the implementation you describe is the 'D-4S' system, Toyota D-4 engines are purely direct injection with the same carbon buildup issues as all the others...which isn't the end of the world as the inlet valves and manifold can be walnut blasted to remove the deposits but it's not the easiest job to do.

Paianni··on Bulldozer, AMD’s Crash Modernization: Front End and Execution Engine
Gaming and enthusiast machines are only a fraction of AMD's market, most consumers and clients didn't care about the features AMD's marketing department lied about.
Paianni··on Teenage suicide rates dropped during lockdown due to respite from bullying
If domestic relationships aren't good quality then social skills may be impaired regardless.
Paianni··on Author warns about 'epidemic of self-censorship'
She seems to agree with JKR that trans rights are separate from women's rights.
Paianni··on Oxford University Press’s new logo is unfathomably bad
Would that have been in the early 90s when it was a polytechnic?
Paianni··on I help seniors with technology issues
Wow, talk about living in the 90s...
Paianni··on Longevity of Recordable CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays (2020)
TY closed down their own disc manufacturing in 2015. Nowadays the CMC Pro line (with 'Powered by TY Technology' branding) is the closest you're going to get.
Paianni··on Retbleed: New speculative execution attack sends Intel and AMD scrambling
Those are affected. https://www.amd.com/system/files/documents/technical-guidanc...
Paianni··on Open source is not about you (2018)
So everyone should reject all proprietary software outright (at least for internet-connected devices) and become fluent in programming languages to determine good from evil?
Paianni··on Investigating the effects of bike lanes in Minneapolis
Is it not a wee bit short-sighted to label everything car-centric undertaken in the 50s and 60s 'dumb' when the planners and engineers of the day were learning just as they are today?
Paianni··on Investigating the effects of bike lanes in Minneapolis
According to Figure 6 from the study linked below, the trend in cycling levels in the Netherlands was essentially flat from the mid-80s to the mid-2000s. I recall (but cannot find) a source with statistics that suggest a minor increase since then, but much of the current infrastructure was in place 15 years ago.

Paianni··on Pitivi, a free and open source video editor for Linux
Maybe you mastered it better than me but I always found Cinelerra-CV a bit clunky, especially if I was dealing with oddball formats (HDV) that I didn't understand. Maybe I would get the hang of it now but I've kinda moved on.
Paianni··on The New York Times has requested that I shut the archive down
"Well you can't trademark, patent, or copyright fonts."

In the US. They can be protected in the UK, Germany and France.

Paianni··on The flaws of distro hopping and asking other people about their OS of choice
It was removed before 6.0.
Paianni··on The flaws of distro hopping and asking other people about their OS of choice
I switched all but two active machines (I have five) from Debian to OpenBSD from 2017 to 2019.

If you can live with everything OpenBSD+ports can't offer in comparison, then switch, you won't regret it.

If you don't have the right hardware for OpenBSD then aspire to change it in the future, you won't regret that either.

Paianni··on Global music market grew by 18.5% in 2021, driven by paid subscription streaming
We've lost Polygram, BMG and EMI in the last 30 years, that's three out of the six major labels that were current in the 90s. The remainder are slowly becoming dinosaurs.
Paianni··on H.264 is Magic (2016)
No, OS support for H.264 happened because the industry wanted more efficient codecs, and it didn't have much competition at the time. H.265 and AV1 are both competing to replace H.264 and so far neither have a clear lead.
Paianni··on Firefox removed Yandex search option
The world isn't that simple.
Paianni··on My transition from Windows to Linux in an anti-customer age
Screen size?
Paianni··on Nintendo is removing switch emulation videos on Steam Deck from YouTube
Old hardware is often repairable/refurbish-able though.
Paianni··on How to Drop Out (2004)
These sorts of articles don't help me as much as they might, because my motivation to work isn't really 'doing what I love', it's more 'making the changes I want to see'.
Paianni··on I went back to using a ThinkPad from 2012
I 'retired' a T510 in 2017 that's slightly deficient by modern standards, Google Maps in particular is not much fun to use on it. I think their durability is overrated; a clip broke on the bundled battery and it wouldn't stay attached after that, and some of the plastic strips around the air vent broke off from being caught on something while in transit. I'm not a huge fan of the red nipple in the keyboard but it was very comfortable aside from that.

Nowadays a tower suits me better.

Paianni··on What desktop Linux needs to succeed in the mainstream
I don't think there are 10 billion desktop users.
Paianni··on Don't send your Google phone in for warranty repair/replacement
Doesn't Google allow devices to be de-authorised from an account via a web client? https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity
Paianni··on Climate change is not the end of the world
He's just regurgitating the theme of his 2001 book 'The Skeptical Environmentalist', nothing new here.
Paianni··on LXQt 1.0.0
Last time I tried Openbox I found configuration horrible (XML, really?) compared to 'traditional' WMs like fvwm, mwm, cwm e.t.c. If LXQt automates things like application lists then I guess that would permit a more usable experience. Plasma is not a thing on some non-Linux OSes atm so LXQt would be a decent alternative for those.
Paianni··on Fairphone 4 has a five-year warranty and aims for six years of updates
We would have saved a lot of waste if societies skipped smartphones altogether. The world is now littered with basic phones that have either been sent to landfill or abandoned, besides all the smartphones with obsolete 'smart' functions.
