Nor should we kid ourselves that this is new information. The adage "monkey see, monkey do" has been around for, what, centuries? Is it really that surprising that apes imitate things they see? Does it really reveal a paltry understanding of monkey cognition?
Parent is not saying reading to your kids isn’t good, he’s listing things that many people find intuitive even though they might only have a few (if any) data points on which to base their conclusion.
Also love the idea of including "Project Ideas for Practicing" as its own module. Two thumbs way up.
E.g. "Oh, company X got acquired for $250 million. We do something similar. If I own .025% of the company, I'd make $62,500 if we exited at that valuation. Cool."
It's important to be aware of dilution events so that you realize when you accept the offer that your .025% will be more like .008% if you're lucky enough to have a successful exit.
Also, are you planning on charging in the future? If not, I'm worried support will disappear which makes me scared of investing time into the app ) :
Cut your losses, friend, and don’t invest any more money into it until you hit at LEAST 10k monthly recurring revenue.
I would sell it if you can get anything over $1000.
If you don’t want to sell the app, start cold calling again and get wayyyy more customers. Target companies with the same need as your current paying customers, hop on LinkedIn, and start dialing/emailing.
If my initial cost assumptions are way off, please say so! Because if instead your customers are paying $X,000 a month that changes things.
If you're referring to Create React App, it uses Webpack - just preconfigured so you don't have to fiddle with it before you start building.
And, again I can hardly believe I’m saying this, it would be such a hassle to physically insert the disk when I felt like watching!
It’s got to be on HBO/Netflix/Hulu/Amazon or available on demand from my tv provider or I won’t watch it outside of theaters. Convenience has bested my better judgement shrugging emoticon
* Less engaging (eg other person can be browsing HN while we chat with zero risk of me realizing)
* Less expressive communication
* Greater anonymity, and thus more difficulty establishing trust
I guess you’re coming at it from the perspective of an expert and I the person seeking expertise. But the whole value of the platform isn’t in giving away your expertise for free, it’s giving it away in exchange for the expertise of someone who can really help you!
IMO it makes the most sense as a user to optimize for a better expert-seeker experience. The benefit you derive from a super helpful conversation with an expert is likely to far outweigh the slight annoyance of voice chat when you’re the expert.
Yes, maybe it feels obvious. Yes, it’s doesn’t cite a whole lot of evidence. But it resonates with people, and being reminded of the obvious continues to be useful if not glamorous.
So I’ll keep upvoting those that resonate with me!
Dare you share the name of your app on HN, or are you afraid of someone taking a big steamy anonymous dump on it like you just did?
As for your argument, who do you think will be deciding Google's success in China? It will in fact be the Chinese consumer.
The Facebook == cigarettes claim is disingenuous.
Disappointingly this article skirts around the obvious English translation: “ass-in-seat.”
In the context of this thread, you're expected to interpret "the value of the Dollar is rising" as "it costs more Turkish Liras to buy a dollar today than it did yesterday."
Sounds like you’ve got a bone to pick with some ideology I’m not privy to.
And to your point - bitcoin doesn’t need to solve a crisis to be useful! It just needs to be useful to be useful.
But you can extrapolate from present-day Venezuela to future runaway-inflation crises, at which time (again, making an assumption here) bitcoin and the internet will be more accessible/prevalent.
