Building Promptster - how well can they use AI?

Promptster reads Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor transcripts and surfaces habits that engineers can improve on to save token cost and improve code quality!

Also, have a hiring product to test candidates on how well they can work with these tools.

Pace vs quality is going to be the debate for the next couple years!

well, it's not per-engineer. instead, the managers get team-wide metrics so the idea is that they know what the quality of their teams code is, and they can recommend trainings / meetings on how to improve on X part of their AI workflow.

Yeah, curating exactly what's important to see as a manager is a difficult part of this journey!

It's a combination of DORA metrics (software delivery) + maintainability score + complexity score.

are unit tests even still useful?

yes, I agree with what the others have said that amount of code written is not a metric for "engineering skill." However, I do think that once the requirements have been scoped properly, there's no reason for a human to be involved in that stage.

The spec-development & testing phases before and after implementation can and should have human involvement, not the implementation. With that being said, there's so many places for this SDLC to be optimized / made more productive with agents that I think everyone should be using them. How well you use them, now that's another story... (check out the above^^)!

the teams product does, working on support for the cc-audit product!
Paarthmj··on Ask HN: What makes someone good at using Claude Code?
Yeah, the mimicking pattern thing is very interesting, didn't know that but definitely relevant. Love the way you use it as a pair programmer, definitely best if you want to learn! I would love to know why the idea doesn't resonate with you though. Also, thanks a bunch for the detailed feedback!

Thanks a bunch Adam! I think the fighting drift point is super interesting, haven't heard that often!
Paarthmj··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026)
I guess it's not AI but AI agents. For the coding ones specifically context management, skill usage, etc. does matter quite a bit.

love the idea, would love a messaging version

I am building Promptster - an AI fluency platform that helps level up engineers. Engineering managers invite their teammates and Promptster analyzes the engineers work with ai coding tools (claude code, codex, cursor, copilot). The manager receives a team-aggregate dashboard where they can roll-out certain practices / skill to their whole team. Each IC receives their own dashboard where they can see their fluency statistics, skill usage, context management, and a DORA dashboard.

I'm looking for design partners, if you're interested would love to chat: https://www.promptster.ai. We also have a hiring product: https://www.promptster.ai/hire.

would there be any curated lists? feel like I would love to see the top ai posts/minds in one spot.
