POiNTx··on Stephen Fry reads Nick Cave's stirring letter about ChatGPT and human creativity [video]
What I'm trying to say is that people should integrate whatever is coming. You can't fight it.

But one can invent a car and still ride a horse. What's lost is that everyone now rides a car and not a horse.

You can still find your own values and express them in your own way, AI doesn't prevent that.

POiNTx··on Stephen Fry reads Nick Cave's stirring letter about ChatGPT and human creativity [video]
I understand the sentiment, but it's the wrong approach. Better to embrace and integrate than to bitterly fight what's inevitably coming. Every technology has had its negative impact, there's always something that dies and can't be replaced. But, something else takes it place and gets brought to life, and that's beautiful in it's own way.

Does the pressure to click on the trackpad feel 'even' across the entire trackpad? For example, does clicking at the top feel the same as the bottom? That's something I never got used to on my ThinkPad, clicking on the top is basically impossible.
POiNTx··on Switching to Elixir
Behaviours might be what you're looking for, they're the closest thing to inheritance in Elixir.

And you're absolutely right about genservers being objects :)

POiNTx··on Dev sets up "goatse" trap for sites that steal his free web game
I made a free webgame and it increased my traffic at least 10x when these websites started putting it on their websites. I liked it as it got my game more players. It's for fun anyway. It's statically hosted on CloudFlare pages so I don't pay anything except for the domain. Shoutout to crazygames as they were the only one to reach out and ask for permission.
POiNTx··on Ask HN: Why aren't Django Admin style dashboards popular in other frameworks?
You can perfectly do business logic operations through the django Admin. It's extensible, and doesn't require a lot of effort to set it up.

POiNTx··on Bun v0.8
Bun is an executable as far as I understand. Would it be possible to call Bun directly from another language with bindings?

For example Erlang (and Elixir) has Native Implemented Functions[0] (NIF) where you can call native code directly from Erlang. Elixir has the zigler[1] project where you can call Zig code directly from Elixir.

Maybe you can see where I'm going with this, but it would be super cool to have the ability to call Javascript code from within Elixir. Especially when it comes to code that should be called on the server and client. I'm the developer of LiveSvelte[2] where we use Node to do SSR but it's quite slow atm, and would be very cool to use Bun for something like this.

In any case Bun is super impressive, keep it up!

POiNTx··on Thoughts on Elixir, Phoenix and LiveView after 18 months of commercial use
I tend to ignore the whole context thing in Phoenix, it confused me in the beginning when I was learning about Elixir and Phoenix. It's a design pattern instead of a core functionality of the framework.

Just think about what are good interfaces and abstractions. Seperate your core functionality from your "view" functionality as Phoenix sets it up for you anyway (App = core and AppWeb is your external view layer, being a webpage, json api, liveview, etc). You might end up with something that looks like a context and that's ok, but it shouldn't be what you start from.

POiNTx··on Elixir for Ruby developers: the three most important differences
Yes :)
POiNTx··on Elixir for Ruby developers: the three most important differences
I'm biased since I made LiveSvelte, but it works quite well! I made a video to showcase some of its features here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMkvbW35QvA

Working with it in a real project now, instead of toy examples like in the video, it works really well for when you have highly complex components that rely on quite a lot of local state.

What you'll find is the developer experience is quite nice with LiveSvelte compared to JS hooks.

POiNTx··on Elixir for Ruby developers: the three most important differences
I'm building a multiplayer real time web based game (io style, 2 ticks per second, so not 64 like a true realtime game). It seems to work quite well so far. I'm using https://github.com/woutdp/live_svelte for the frontend with pixi.js for the rendering.
