OrganicMSG··on Sex Workers Say Porn on Google Drive Is Suddenly Disappearing
You may not like to look too closely at the book industry then. It is full of such boxes.
OrganicMSG··on Sex Workers Say Porn on Google Drive Is Suddenly Disappearing
This makes no sense.

The vast majority of the youtube videos I see, I do not see on youtube, but as embedded content.

OrganicMSG··on US Military Scientists Generate Voices Remotely via Laser
On the other hand, the already disturbed could be far more resilient to this actually being used as they already knew that this was going on and were hearing voices anyway.
OrganicMSG··on London Metropolitan Police admits role in blacklisting construction workers
How will they be felt in the election, given the subject? The political group it was on behalf of has repaid the police by slashing police budgets and reducing their numbers, so we are currently in the position where the left wing are the party claiming to represent the police and are promising a rapid increase in police numbers, so they are unlikely to want to rock the boat too much against them politically at the moment, as that would muddy the messaging they are trying to get out.
OrganicMSG··on In field tests, device harvests water from desert air
> A heat sink will not cool the air below ambient. This is required for condensation. No configuration of heat sink + device will decrease the temperature unless we put some "work" into the system.

A heat sink surrounded with foam with an opening left that looks down the focus of a satellite dish that has been carefully covered in tinfoil will get colder than ambient air temperature, if the dish is pointed at a clear sky.

OrganicMSG··on What is Mastodon? [video]
I only just found out about these. What are they and how long have they been running?
OrganicMSG··on SCL – A Very British Coup
I think that the entire concept of The Establishment, UK class distinctions and the whole class war movement that accepts the basic premise, amplifies it, then reflects the image back, is one of the most successful long running dīvide et imperā strategies in existence, so why would I ever go along with it?
OrganicMSG··on SCL – A Very British Coup
I don't buy into all of that particular narrative, as it was obviously started by someone playing divide and conquer games.
OrganicMSG··on SCL – A Very British Coup
So, if this is all to be believed and we link it with what else is known, elements within the oldest of the Old Guard at the top of UK politics, alongside the Putin oligarchy and some US billionaires who align with the Dark Enlightenment orthodoxy, are deliberately destabilising the US political system, trying to break up the EU, while actively undermining hundreds of other democratic systems around the world.

I really started to wonder what the hell was going on when right wingers started shouting the anti-globalist slogans of the late '90s left wing anarchist movement, as that clearly was an agenda that was unlikely to have organically transferred. A group of billionaires wanting to rule openly over balkanised microstates, in opposition to the globalising efforts of the liberal free marketeer billionaires, was one though that kept coming back to me. And look, here they all are.

OrganicMSG··on SCL – A Very British Coup
I think that the more the UK state covers for CLS, the worse the blowback could be. Every single country that CLS has been involved in will have an official starting an investigation and dusting off the extradition forms.
OrganicMSG··on Some software cannot be used at Google
Well, since we are already orthogonal, lets turn this the other way round. Would you support the idea that any software that you are mandated by law to use, should be required to be open source?
OrganicMSG··on Zuckerberg Has No Way Out of Facebook's Quagmire
Giggity.
OrganicMSG··on The Tale of Theranos and the Mysterious Fire Alarm
Perhaps they weren't trying to develop anything at all.

How many samples did they get before the lid got blew?

OrganicMSG··on Zuckerberg on Cambridge Analytica situation
Doesn't matter what you signed and how it relates to civil law, you cannot sign away your statutory rights.

What matters is how criminal law views this particular data collection in the context of Facebook's working relationship with this particular client, within all of the various jurisdictions that Facebook operates.

The article "What Colour Are Your Bits", is a pretty good look at this - http://ansuz.sooke.bc.ca/entry/23

OrganicMSG··on An AI app that generates quizzes from a photograph of a texbook
Hah, I was going to post the same thing. Perhaps it is steam-engine-time for this idea.
OrganicMSG··on Why I Don't Sign Non-Competes
Tell them that you will agree to it on the perfectly reasonable condition that they will be paying you a years full salary plus fifteen percent on top to cover the administrative costs of self management, in order for you to provide them this service following the termination of your employment.
OrganicMSG··on Some software cannot be used at Google
> You aren't being denied your freedoms on someone else's computer because you have no right to exercise them to begin with---it's not yours.

How about the freedom to refuse to use someone else's computer unless I can also see the source code?

OrganicMSG··on Bitcoin will become the world’s single currency, Jack Dorsey says
I think any payment system that is dependent on a working network connection to a 3rd party being concurrent to the transaction, is unsuitable as a primary underlying monetary system. The chaos caused in a restaurant when the card machines break is insane and that is while there is still cash to fall back on.
OrganicMSG··on Death of the sampling theorem?
Non-periodic signals can be thought of as a Fourier series of periodic sine waves though.
OrganicMSG··on Launch HN: Promise (YC W18) – Cost-effective, more humane alternative to jail
Many of the severest problems in the criminal justice system are those encouraged by perverse incentives in the legal system and the laws themselves. If someone is seriously interested in justice reform, the last thing they should do is introduce layers of profit motive and competitive business strategy to their reform project. Personally, I'd use stronger terms than garbage to describe the issues inherent in bringing private industry into this area of society.
OrganicMSG··on Launch HN: Promise (YC W18) – Cost-effective, more humane alternative to jail
Is definitely name calling (not to mention uncivil) to say that someone spews reductionist bile.
OrganicMSG··on Facebook Sued by Investors Over Voter-Profile Harvesting
> The "without their consent" part is BS, as is this lawsuit. When you use Facebook platform apps, you have to consent to the disclosure of your information to the developer, and have to agree to allow whatever special permissions the developer is asking for. As for friend data that apps may have access to, when you sign up for and use Facebook, you agree to the terms and conditions, which allow this behavior.

As far as I am aware, across the whole of Europe, pretty much none of those TOS click-through things hold up as informed contractual consent. They aren't really worth the pixels they are written on in many jurisdictions.

OrganicMSG··on Facebook lost more than Tesla's market cap
People will now be looking to jump and developers just got a huge motivation to build alternatives. Facebook will survive for a while, but I think we may be seeing their high water mark.
OrganicMSG··on Launch HN: Promise (YC W18) – Cost-effective, more humane alternative to jail
I don't think it is possible to be cynical enough when dealing with private industry's involvement in this area, so on that note, here's how I think it will go politically.

Step 1. Allow Promise to amass a useful amount of people who are awaiting trial/convicted of minor crimes.

Step 2. Suddenly threaten to shut them down and immediately incarcerate all the people that Promise is keeping out of jail, unless they give your corporate donors access to their captive and monitored labor pool.

Step 3. If this goes well and makes everybody money, assist your donors in a corporate takeover of Promise.

OrganicMSG··on ‘Testilying’ by Police: A Stubborn Problem
People who expect to be exempted from consequences then attempt to lie about what the video represents or things that are out of frame.

Until there is a culture of routine and serious consequences for police lying in court, police will continue to lie in court.

OrganicMSG··on ‘Testilying’ by Police: A Stubborn Problem
> "Kevin Richardson, the Police Department’s top internal prosecutor, said he believed so-called testilying was nearing its end. “I think it’s a problem that’s very much largely on its way out,” he said."

Very much largely?

Now, without wanting to cast aspersions on a prosecutor, is this guy lying about lying?

OrganicMSG··on How Facebook’s Naive Optimism Built a Toolbox for Totalitarianism (2014)
Is very hard to know if the promoter of the Kool-Aid has drunk their own Kool-Aid, since the method of getting other people to drink theirs is to first learn to act as though you really, truly believe in the Kool-aid.
OrganicMSG··on 50M Facebook profiles harvested for Cambridge Analytica in major data breach
Fair play for saying.
OrganicMSG··on Lithuanian is riddled with references to bees
Ahh, of course, Lithuanian is probably where one of the human group consciousnesses keeps the convolutional network it uses for recognising stuff about bees.
