Onixelen··on Ask HN: Which programming languages(s) should I focus on to get a job?
My impression has been that back end pays more, that's why I was more inclined towards it.

I don't think I would pursue my own startup, even though I said so above.

Onixelen··on Ask HN: Which programming languages(s) should I focus on to get a job?
Software developer/engineer who works w/ websites/web applications.
Onixelen··on Ask HN: Which programming languages(s) should I focus on to get a job?
> What kind of job do you want?

Software developer/engineer who works w/ websites/web applications.

> "Web development" is a hugely broad area. Personally I'd pick a relatively well-known one at random, but these days, I'd point people at modern JavaScript.

Being in a non-tech hub area, I don't know if there are a lot of jobs here for JavaScript in the backend. If there are a lot of JavaScript jobs in non-tech hub areas, I would probably go w/ it, since it seems like the easiest/simplest language. Job descriptions mention JavaScript but then there are many other languages also thrown in.

Onixelen··on Ask HN: Has anyone learned programming entirely from watching videos?
> I have. I built a career from watching Jeffrey Way talk about php and javascript years ago.

This is what I need to hear.

Onixelen··on Ask HN: Has anyone learned programming entirely from watching videos?
I was implying that you write code and you practice/try things out as you're watching. Sorry should have explicitly mentioned that.
Onixelen··on Ask HN: Is it possible to learn web dev/programming from videos?
> Are you looking for different answers from those you already got?

I'm looking for a lot of yeses.

> Are you currently learning via videos?

I am.

Onixelen··on Ask HN: Non-technical jobs for an average person without a college degree?
> Hurr tis

This was my favorite part.

Onixelen··on Ask HN: Non-technical jobs for an average person without a college degree?
I was interested in IT the most but I wanted to keep my options open with non-IT, like a desk job. A job in marketing, human resources, recruitment...could work but I think you need a college degree for those.
Onixelen··on Ask HN: Enough video content out there today to learn everything as web dev?
> Could you expand on "a hard time reading"? Is this only for long tutorials or for any text?

I seem to have a hard time with long text. I seem to be able to read forums okay since I'm reading all this here. I had no problem reading what you wrote.

> Perhaps graphic design may be a better option?

I was really looking forward to web dev.

Onixelen··on Ask HN: Are SF and NY the best cities for programming jobs?
It should have a good support system for you as a programmer (lots of programming related meetup, etc) and lots of other programmers.
Onixelen··on Ask HN: Do you have to read a lot as a programmer?
> As far as having a hard time reading, could you be more specific?

I read slow, like you mentioned, and have lack of confidence in my ability to read.

Onixelen··on Ask HN: How to not share anything personal with screen sharing apps?
Thanks for the feedback.
Onixelen··on Ask HN: Where can I find a cheap frond end dev tutor online?
I know about codementor and hackhands. The reason I asked was to find cheap ways to get tutoring with programming.

I'm open to other countries where the conversion rate would make the amounts I mentioned decent.

Onixelen··on Ask HN: Where can I find a cheap frond end dev tutor online?
I would say less than $20/hr, preferably less than $10, but I'll consider all options.
Onixelen··on Ask HN: How to not share anything personal with screen sharing apps?
I'm concerned about both.
Onixelen··on Ask HN: Is there enough video content out there today to learn cs and programming?
I haven't so far. Am I ever going to run into a topic that I can't learn on video? Can I get a bachelor's or master's degree level computer science/programming education from all the content online?
Onixelen··on Ask HN: Is there enough video content out there today to learn cs & programming?
Thanks for sharing that :)
