NotGMan··on Claude Design
Claude used 65% of my Design budget for one run: a website (4 ref images and ~3 pdfs).

Can't even test two designs. No idea if PDFs used up so much budget.

NotGMan··on Scientists discover why bread can cause weight gain without extra calories
Some youtuber tested cooled rice or something to test regular vs resistant starch using a glucose monitor and found zero difference in his blood sugar response.

So while there might be gut bacteria effect changes of it some people at least show no different blood glucose response.

Since Ozempic came out it should be obvious even to the most hardcore "all calories are the same" people that this is blatently false and that the hormonal response to foods is what drives satiety, not "calories".

NotGMan··on We have a 99% email reputation, but Gmail disagrees
Who actually uses RSS compared to email? 1% of your customers?
NotGMan··on Women are getting most of the new jobs. What's going on with men?
Men don't want to work in jobs where stasi style political correctness is prioritized compared to actual competence.

And its women that are driving this primarily.

NotGMan··on Penguin 'Toxicologists' Find PFAS Chemicals in Remote Patagonia
Yes, but since blood donations are not tested for this you don't know what you get so people are already getting PFAS contaminated blood.

You could just do phlebotomy (blood letting) where your blood is discarded in case you have insanely high PFAS.

NotGMan··on Penguin 'Toxicologists' Find PFAS Chemicals in Remote Patagonia
Interesting, best of luck with this, microplastics really are the modern lead.

You said it removes them from the blood: does the body dump microplastics in the gut for your product to remove them from the blood or how does it work (if you can answer due to proprietary reasons)?

Are saunas and blood donations not also effective for this?

NotGMan··on One item purchased, ten emails
Another reason for this is for the seller to protect themselves and give themselves proof against scumbag customers who then lie to get the product for free etc...

The more emails and info you can demonstrate that you sent to the customer the more proof you have in case they try to scam you.

NotGMan··on Ultraplan with Claude Code
Or just use Claude in VSCode with their plugin or Kilocode and you have nice IDE with as many tabs as you want open one click away?
NotGMan··on Understanding young news audiences at a time of rapid change
>> ... Meeting the needs of this segment is crucial, not just for the current stability of the journalism industry, but also for the future of democratic societies as young individuals transition through adulthood

Sure buddy. Keep telling yourself that.

Mainstream media can't die quick enough.

NotGMan··on Epic Games to cut more than 1k jobs as Fortnite usage falls
My main issue with Epic' Store is that it doesn't have a rating/review system just like Steam has.

Since game journos are completely woke and unreliable using Steam's game ratings from REAL players is a God-send.

Without it you simply wouldn't know if a game is any good or not.

NotGMan··on Ask HN: AI productivity gains – do you fire devs or build better products?
Why not both?
NotGMan··on Illinois Introducing Operating System Account Age Bill
Yes

NotGMan··on [dead]
Daily reminder that each humans tries to pick the best mate to mate with.

Men try to pick the most beatiful women.

And women try to pick the most "alpha" (rich, high status, and also good looking) men.

Animals do the same.

Therefore each time that you pick a better mate than a subpar mate you are a dirty, dirty Eugenist! Bad you!

Does this mean that biology is eugenic? Bad nature! We must destroy it and replace it with communism!

NotGMan··on Claude Code's binary reveals silent A/B tests on core features
By that definition humans are not professional since we hallucinate and make mistakes all the time.
NotGMan··on Colon cancer now leading cause of cancer deaths under 50 in US
Focusing on fiber while leaving out glyphosate, sugar etc... is myopic.
NotGMan··on The optimal age to freeze eggs is 19
This is a peak silicon valley tech bro mentality view.

Instead of doing what the body is natural designed to do lets go fully against it because of the current environment.

NotGMan··on Claude built a system in 3 rounds, latent bugs from round 1 exploded in round 3
How is that different compared to a human dev that would miss bugs?
NotGMan··on MonoGame: A .NET framework for making cross-platform games
We used Monogame at a previous company and it's a nightmare to be productive in it. The lack of any kind of an editor makes any kind of dev a nightmare: 3d adjustments? Good luck, guess it.. UI adjustments: good luck, try it 300 times until you get it right.

Switched to Unity, best choice ever.

NotGMan··on Can a wealthy family change the course of a deadly brain disease?
There are two restaurants, one owned by a capitalist and the other by the community.

But which has better food?

NotGMan··on RFK Jr.'s anti-vaccine policies are "unreviewable," DOJ lawyer tells judge
Funny they say that since pro-vaccine policies are unreviewable since max 1 vaccine had a legit placebo controlled trial and none others, which means that we have no idea about their safety.
NotGMan··on AI companies aim 'not to help workers, but to replace them'
It is what it is.

100 years ago tractors and machinery were replacing farm workers etc...

Obviously AI is a step up since you at least needed humans to operate many machines.

Some kind of UBI might be inevitable, higher taxes for large/most profitable companies might fuel it. But that's my idealistic view of it.

NotGMan··on 10% of Firefox crashes are caused by bitflips
>> In other words up to 10% of all the crashes Firefox users see are not software bugs, they're caused by hardware defects!

I find this impossible to believe.

If this were so all devs for apps, games, etc... would be talking about this but since this is the first time I'm hearing about this I'm seriously doubting this.

>> This is a bit skewed because users with flaky hardware will crash more often than users with functioning machines, but even then this dwarfs all the previous estimates I saw regarding this problem.

Might be the case, but 10% is still huge.

There imo has to be something else going on. Either their userbase/tracking is biased or something else...

NotGMan··on New York could prohibit chatbot medical, legal, engineering advice
Anyone who has dealt with lawyers and doctors will a lot will tell you how incomptent they can be.
NotGMan··on No Good Engineer Is Arrogant
From a pure tech perspective the article is correct.

But the problem with this approach is that in real life the majority of people are not like this. Many people are vastly overconfident and arrogant in their skills, I've had encounters with very good developers who simple refused to even hear an alternative solution or who did not do the most basic stuff to verify certain things before starting implementing them even though someone who had tons of experience in a certain niche compared to him told him to.

So a truly great engineer also needs to be arrogant/assertive/loud as that is the only way to fight other arrogant people. The "quiet confident" engineers opinion will be overruled by loud incomptent engineers.

NotGMan··on 99% of adults over 40 have shoulder "abnormalities" on an MRI, study finds
Gymnasts are known to have very worn out shoulders which can be seen in scans. Eg at ~25yo they have shoulders of a ~40 to 50 year old person.
NotGMan··on US Immigration on the Easiest Setting
Buy borrow die.

It's possible it exists in other countries, I don't know that.

NotGMan··on Treating cancer in morning seems to substantially beat treating later in day
Perhaps it has to do with not eating yet due to it being early in the morning. We know that fasting and ketosis increase autophagy. There wouldn't be much ketosis just over night, if any, but a slight increase due to fasting (sleep time->not eating) could be a thing to look into).
NotGMan··on LED lighting undermines visual performance unless supplemented by wider spectra
There's a mostly-unsubstantiated-by-data belief that LED lighting can NOT cause health problems by some combination of flickering and narrow color spectrum.
NotGMan··on How tech billionaires spurred an exodus from California
This tax proposal is either malicious or done by the most stupid people imaginable.

The 5% thing is not even remotely the biggest problem.

Also, what prevents them from doing a 5% tax again in a few years, or lowering the limit to who must pay it?

This. Outside of an extremely small minority no-one cares.
