Your interpretation of these claims is politically fashionable but far from certain. Climates change by definition and how those changes will affect anything on a macro scale remains beyond us. The medieval warming period wasn’t anthropogenic and affected climate globally in myriad ways. This issue smacks of the privilege of Westerners. Check it.
I bet my developers in Novosibirsk, Siberia are looking forward to this. It seems like this issue is cared about mostly by people privileged with Mediterranean climates.
The NSA has been recording every phone call and storing every text message for at least three days since 2007 so I have no idea what this guy thinks he’s talking about.
Editor’s note: there is no naturally occurring source of hydrogen and no established industry of producing hydrogen from renewable energy. It’s made from oil and natural gas and exists purely by the grace of the carbon industry.
I would like to see the mathematical analysis that concludes it is unsafe for a vaccinated person to fly on an airplane without a mask while it is safe for a masked unvaccinated person.
“ We're trying to do something that hasn't been done before – prove that an accessible, incentive-aligned education model can work sustainably for all students willing to put in the work. ”
“Willing to put in the work” shows me that Austen is already rationalizing his failure in terms of his indentured servants —- I mean students — not working hard enough.
Exactly this. The only Bootcamp grass I know that were successful in their post grad jobs were already developers but with a different skill set. The entire concept of turning non technical people into developers is a farce.
at the time I had 15 product managers, five of which had come to me as entry level developers out of Flat Iron and some course in Boston I can’t remember the name of. I had a Ruby dev bootcamp grad switch to my finance team as controller (he was also a CPA). He manages timber leases now.
The implication is that good developers don’t need bootcamps as much as potential product managers need them for crash courses on development fundamentals. I’ve lived this personally as an actual founder of a non profit dev bootcamp.
My last memory of Lambda School was Austin blocking me on Twitter after asking him why every dev bootcamp grad I’ve ever hired is now on my product team.
I will always, always value the right of children to go to school and the right of Americans to run a small business over the completely hypothetical notion that a novel corona virus has intense long term side effects. Schools are open in Florida and the kids are fine. There have been a billion, probably two billion, infections so far and near zero evidence of widespread long term effects. If one percent are “long haulers” there should be 10-20 million of them. Where are they? What there is indisputable evidence of is a dramatic increase in drug overdoses, suicides, stroke and heart attack deaths at home (which are callously and cravenly classified as excess mortality due to Covid). I am supposed to chant BLACK LIVES MATTER in the street when police kill 250 black people/year but am supposed to clap and cheer when the Teachers Unions demand that 40 million Children of Color are locked at home with no equipment for distance learning. Please stop pretending that a disease with 99.95% survival rate (99.999% under age 50) justifies ten trillion dollars of self imposed economic disaster. Please stop telling me I need to cover my face when walking my dog outside, Dr Biden. The threat of this virus has been drastically exaggerated to influence politics, undermine property rights, bail out failing corporations, and enrich a select few.
It’s fascinating to me that a scientist would look at the Diamond Princess and it’s 14 deaths of almost entirely 80+ year olds (no one under 65 died) and see evidence to justify mask mandates and school closures and firing half of the people of color from their jobs. Why not, say, quarantine for senior citizens or any sort of coordinated response to protect and provide for the elderly? When people talk about a covid hoax, it’s not denying the virus exists. It’s denying that the popular mitigation strategies don’t do anything but drive value for Amazon share holders.
This is fantastically wrong. Just imagine to what you would have to raise the minimum wage to disqualify an individual from any government assistance. And then imagine what that would do to the prices of the services those people provide. WalMart makes about $6k profit per US employee and if they gave all of it to the employees, the employees would still qualify for welfare. So what you’re actually talking about is making Walmart customers (mostly low income people) pay more for groceries. Taxpayers aren’t subsidizing Walmart; they’re subsidizing Walmart customers. You really sound like youd prefer the poor be poorer so long as the rich are less rich.
Yes, and this is part of the problem. I should not have to join a PEO (or employ 10k+ people) to provide my employees the best possible insurance rates. For that matter, nobody should have to work anywhere to get the best possible rates. The original point is that income inequality is not nearly as big of a deal as some would want to believe because of the chicanery of benefits systems. New York State provides about $140k of services (direct cost to the state government) to a family of 4 making $39,500. Yet this is not considered income to the family. Why?
Obamacare requires me to pay for health insurance directly for my 279 employees otherwise I must pay a ~$4k/head penalty to the IRS. The entire point of my original comment was to refute the notion that counting benefits as income is a “very Republican” idea, because it was a Democrat would thought of it and made it a law.
Each of my employees receive about $7800 less per year in their paychecks because a Democrat made me buy them health insurance instead of giving them the money to buy their own healthcare.
