My Model Y has 27,000 miles on it and all I’ve had to do is refill the wiper fluid. Toyotas are great cars. And you buy them from a repair shop. Think about that.
This is about distribution. Toyotas are sold through dealers. Dealers make little money on selling cars and lots of money fixing them. The Prius appeals to eco concious drivers (who don’t mind that their car drives like a dishwasher) but also appeals to dealers because it needs oil changes, radiator flushed, and frequent brake changes. Full EVs require almost no maintenance so Toyota dealers lack any incentive to market them. Hydrogen has always been a fake out; never remotely close to a viable alternative yet marketed as something amazing coming soon (so don’t buy a Tesla!).
How did that study control for the effects of being locked inside for a year or losing your job? Or past diagnosis with hypochondriac syndromes like fibromyalgia?
Steve Jobs would have never let the TouchBar come to market, if not outright fire the inventor of it. I’m on my second MacBook Air because of how bad is touchbar.
The only thing I can reasonably conclude from this study is that more schizophrenics are using marijuana because marijuana is more available than it used to be. I see no evidence of an increase in the absolute number of schizophrenics relative to the availability of cannabis. Who funded this, the DEA?
“He is now sceptical about all systematic reviews, particularly those that are mostly reviews of multiple small trials.”
This describes basically all “meta analyses” of Covid claims, especially the effectiveness of masking and lockdown. This is at the heart of “epidemiology” which is, as far as I can tell, the science of organizing data to meet predetermined political demands.
I am on my third Tesla and service/repairs remain the only reason why I would consider another type of car. While there are many hard working employees at my local Tesla garage, they simply don’t have the tools or training to provide a good service experience. My Ford dealer treats me better, and actually picks up the phone.
HFCs are a scam designed to make oil investors think that Shell and Exxon will have a role in the electric transportation future. The notion that we are better off turning 3x the CNG into hydrogen fuel than burning 1x the CNG to charge a battery is absurd.
“I’m not accusing Microsoft of having spied on users or abused its data-gathering capabilities.”
I am. The changes to Windows over the last year are designed to do this. For starters, if you install Windows without a Microsoft account (which is only possible if you lie to Cortana during setup and click “I don’t have internet access”), the modals and update flows that pop up after you complete installation represent a dark UX pattern designed to make you create an account anyway. Windows has also been updated several times over the last year to default Edge over your preferred browser (going so far as to actually force the Edge icon onto your task bar AND desktop AND force you to go through a “set default browser as edge” flow). Most recently I was auto signed up for a news ans weather widget (with ads) on my taskbar. MacOS isn’t much better these days because even a brand new Mac is loaded with Apple
Bloatware (do you want to pay for iCloud? Apple News? Apple TV+? Fitness? All music? All together in one package? Also here’s a new Finder format which defaults you to save to iCloud and hides your OneDrive).
Yes. If the former Mrs Bezos wanted to help students, she would pay tuition directly, not donate a million dollars to the chancellor of a university. If she wanted to help artists, she would buy art, not donate money to the trust fund of a museum.
to suggest that gain of function research is not in service to bio weapon development is tantamount to suggesting the United States went to the moon purely for scientific purposes
The planes don’t exist and probably never will exist. Boom is Silicon Valley randos trying to play SpaceX, praying that their material science investments will somehow garner government investment. Supersonic travel solves no actual problem. Airlines could invest 1/10th the cost of this program to make air travel better so that customers would demand the planes go slower.
It is interesting to me that The Verge quotes a union study as gospel along with a one off anecdote from Britain about peeing in bottles as some sort of official legal conviction. Amazon workers rejected unionization by huge margins. Why is The Verge writing this? Maybe ask yourself about that Union they formed….
We’ve been back in the office since September 2020 with masks. We are now a mask free workplace as of two days ago if you are vaccinated. Any delay to return to normalcy at this point is absurd.
Dentists will hate this and, if it works, conspire to destroy it. Dentists operate a mostly cash business dependent on disease care. The less you care for your teeth, the more money they make. The more procedures they perform, the more money they make. Good luck.
my biggest problem with iOS storage is that if you pay to store a photo in iCloud and then use Messages to send it to 5 friends, you are now paying to store it in iCloud 6x. And of course it’s totally unfair that there is no priced option between 200GB and 1TB. Same with Google Photos.
The prevailing sentiment in Russia about permafrost is that they can’t wait for it to thaw because it’s probably covering a lot of valuable resources. Breaking up arctic ice makes Russian shipping more valuable and Russia more strategically located globally. It’s hilarious to me how naively Western views on this issue are. Go talk to some Russians, maybe.
I am not being snide. I am being wary of politically motivated Westerners demanding massive societal and economic changes in the name of protecting “billions of low income people.” This is exact same reasoning that the British used to justify colonizing and exploiting some of those places.
