Nijikokun··on Nerdy internals of an Apple text editor
I clicked "hide these widgets" from the three dot dropdown menu on your animations and now I can't figure out how to bring them back. heh.

Great post btw!

Nijikokun··on Freenginx: Core Nginx developer announces fork
Postgres name is said to be a reference to ingres db, not a fork of ingres.

> The INGRES relational database management system (DBMS) was implemented during 1975-1977 at the Univerisity of California. Since 1978 various prototype extensions have been made to support distributed databases [STON83a], ordered relations [STON83b], abstract data types [STON83c], and QUEL as a data type [STON84a]. In addition, we proposed but never prototyped a new application program interface [STON84b]. The University of California version of INGRES has been ‘‘hacked up enough’’ to make the inclusion of substantial new function extremely difficult. Another problem with continuing to extend the existing system is that many of our proposed ideas would be difficult to integrate into that system because of earlier design decisions. Consequently, we are building a new database system, called POSTGRES (POSTinGRES).

Nijikokun··on Ngrok's Always-On Global Server Load Balancing
We have thought about adding WAF capabilities, what kind of WAF functionality would you be interested in if we did support it?

Feel free to reach out to me over email as well: niji@ngrok.com

Nijikokun··on Ngrok's Always-On Global Server Load Balancing
Very cool, love the break down and journey. We ended up with something similar, and we definitely want to do a technical breakdown! Great minds think alike! In addition, we are also globally replicating our "core" as well.
Nijikokun··on The core problem with hamburger menus
This doesn't work for infinity loading. Hamburger menus are often fine in practice and work like every application settings menu anyway.
Nijikokun··on Load Balancing
Interactive diagrams and visuals are worth so much with these topics. I just created documentation at ngrok (full disclosure, I work there!) for how to do load balancing with their edges product for this the other day! Now I have something to refer people to when describing these.

Nijikokun··on Show HN: Mirrorful – A developer-first way to implement designs faster
Whats the benefit of this over something like docz or storybook? Which are also agnostic to framework?
Nijikokun··on L Ives
I love the idea but the why escapes me. Is this a curated collection of news or is it a writers blog?
Nijikokun··on Eventually ChatGPT will eat itself
I believe they already model based on the question-response content being generated today.
Nijikokun··on Accidentally making a language, for an engine, for a game
It's unfortunate that the majority of comments are centered around Yak Shaving rather than the amazing leaps that this small language has done.
Nijikokun··on Are you a baby? A litmus test
Is there a bullet point for the test? I'd rather not read a thousand words to try and figure out the testing parameters.
Nijikokun··on RedwoodJS 1.0
I was going to use it for a project but it looks like it doesn't have electron support. :/
Nijikokun··on Launch HN: Kitemaker (YC W21) – Fast alternative to Jira, built for remote teams

There is literally a hotkey for everything in linear.

Nijikokun··on Hotwire: HTML over the Wire
Sigh, this is already what modern frameworks do.

Nijikokun··on Show HN: Insomnia Designer – Open-source collaborative editor for API design
Great point, we started with OpenAPI / Swagger-UI as it's the popular specification but we do want the application to support more specifications and preview / output libraries. We just had to start somewhere.
Nijikokun··on Show HN: Insomnia Designer – Open-source collaborative editor for API design
Great question.

We do believe in Design First Development, where the idea is designed out with the key party members as a part of that group. In this case, it could be the Lead Architect, or Team Lead, or Individual Contributor starting the specification and working closely in source control / pair programming to define that first draft to prevent things tech debt, refactoring, recoding, etc.

Once it's agree'd upon and merged into the codebase, we believe from there, should you setup a pipeline to have it be updated from the codebase, which commits to the repository, that should be allowed as long as the process is kept. So you still have tests against your specification that ensure your implementation works as described, and your specification is validated and enforced with the right policies.

We have some known gaps around policy enforcement and placement that we intend to correct soon. But, this is our belief.

As far as UI driven design, or Text driven design, I personally believe that both can be achieved. Not everyone knows these specifications and having an interface can on-board those individuals and get them ramped up quickly to service the needs and demands of the business.

Where the text form is useful for advanced users, quick changes, automation pipelines, testing frameworks, diff checking, and so forth. So we don't want to ultimately get rid of that layer either.

I think the best approach will be some form of a balancing act. Would love to hear feedback on this.

Nijikokun··on Show HN: Insomnia Designer – Open-source collaborative editor for API design
JSON support is a little bit lacking at the moment, something we plan to address soon. If the JSON isn't private we'd definitely love to take a look, do you mind opening an issue?
Nijikokun··on Show HN: Insomnia Designer – Open-source collaborative editor for API design
Separate! I like to say that designer is more when you're building and creating, and core is when you're trying out other apis or just scratch padding some requests.
Nijikokun··on Show HN: Insomnia Designer – Open-source collaborative editor for API design
Thank you! We hope to continue to make it even better!

We have a big sidebar update coming up soon, keep an eye on the github issues for more info, and your comments contain some good insights us to think about.

Lucky for you, I'm a windows 98 kind of guy, i've been thinking about doing a custom theme for a while ;))
Nijikokun··on Show HN: Insomnia Designer – Open-source collaborative editor for API design
We've been discussing this internally quite a bit and is something we want to provide through our plugin infrastructure which is the ability to choose the type of specification, it's output and preview mechanisms.

This way the workflow can be specialized for your needs.
