NickC25··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
>that's the end of any shred of sympathy left for them in the world. There would be massive political consequences for Israel

They genocided Palestine. They are bombing the shit out of Lebanon and will likely ethnically cleanse them too. Words have been said but no action has been taken. Nobody seems to give a shit.

Bibi could parachute into Mecca, take a shit on the Ka'aba, draw the Prophet (SWT) eating pork, and all we'd get would be a strong finger wagging from the US, Russia, France, etc... and no action.

>Sanctions, embargoes

Mossad has gathered enough blackmail over the years to ensure these won't work.

>no more ability to travel abroad

over 10% of Israel has dual citizenship with another country (mainly USA, Russia, France, Poland, Ukraine). Such restrictions won't affect them.

> the end of any hope of any positive diplomatic relations with other countries, etc.

Define "positive". Look at what Epstein did, yet the West as a whole (UK, France, US, etc) plus some MENA nations still hold Israel in the highest regard and refuse to critique them, much less break off diplomatic relations. I think you're being naive here

NickC25··on Lichess and Take Take Take Sign Cooperation Agreement
Love Lichess.

The only thing I love about chess.com is the ability to create custom variants, edit them, and unleash them into the wild. Been loving minihouse lately, such a cool variant.

Would love to see Lichess add bughouse, as its cousin Pychess recently debuted it and it seems to work fine. Chess.com has bughouse.

NickC25··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
Israel will be fine. They have nuclear weapons if shit really starts to get bad. They'll tell you they don't (while smirking), but they do, and have for like 70 years.
NickC25··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
Israel also gets to pretend it has no nuclear weapons.
NickC25··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
Israel's first ally in the Middle East was the secular Iran government under Mossadegh.....
NickC25··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
A good analogy to this situation is the analogy of playing chess with a pigeon, who knocks over the pieces, takes a shit on the board, struts around for a moment, and flies away.

Except in this case, the pigeon has a ton of yes-men worshiping it, and praises each of its moves as genius. Except it hasn't made any chess moves, it's literally knocked over pieces and shit on the board, leaving the board and pieces in worse shape. Worse yet - there's a narrative being built by the pigeon's yes-men that the actions by the pigeon were indeed genius, and the situation is better....and people believe the yes-men.

> Never pay a bully, ever. They used that extortion money to build bunkers

Which bully are we talking about here? I'm guessing Donald Trump, who took millions in "donations" to demolish a 3rd of the white house to build a new bunker with a stupid ballroom on top (which will never get built, but the GOP will just shrug when asked where the money went).

We are talking about Donald Trump, right?

NickC25··on Sam Altman may control our future – can he be trusted?
I think the answer is a resounding "no".

Anyone who deliberately seeks power should not be given it.

>Their reasons for having higher wages are well-documented and they are equally self-serving.

The bottom line is that they are paying their employees much more than their competitors would. You're going to pass that off as "self-serving"?

Their biggest competitor is owned by a family whose combined net worth is half a trillion dollars that derives from founding a megacorporation worth a trillion dollars....yet for some reason can't find the money to pay their employees a living wage, so they instruct their employees to go on government assistance.

NickC25··on When legal sports betting surges, so do Americans' financial problems
I think the issue is a lot deeper than the article suggests.

The problem is, society is fucking broken. The middle class is being decimated. People are going to take their destinies into their own hands, as seen by the growth of daytrading and sports betting. With wages being destroyed, billionaires avoiding taxes, COL skyrocketing for the middle and lower classes, and jobs evaporating, who's going to fucking blame someone for trying to figure out how to use what they know (in this case, sports) to make money?

Plus, this generation has seen another class of gamblers (big banks) get bailout after bailout without any problem.

Sports betting is the symptom, not the root cause that needs to be addressed.

NickC25··on When legal sports betting surges, so do Americans' financial problems
Tony is also super smart in how he gambled. Your average degenerate is nowhere near as intelligent as Tony is.

I have a very small edge in sports betting although I don't really do any of the deep overpriced/underpriced arbitrage or any special types of bets outside of wins/loses. And it's limited to tennis, a sport I've played my entire life and have followed the pro circuit closely for 3 decades. And even then my edge is very small, and the strategy I use when I do bet doesn't make me much in total return.

NickC25··on When legal sports betting surges, so do Americans' financial problems
Except in the state of MA.

They rightfully passed legislation banning such practices. The idea is that if casinos and bookies refuse to cap your downside, they have zero right to cap your upside.

>The story of whether Iran had a nuclear program has been reported every which way but loose for the past 6 months.

6 months?

Try like 35+ years. Bibi has been pushing the "Iran is 2 weeks away from a nuke" narrative since the late 80s.

NickC25··on Why the US Navy won't blast the Iranians and 'open' Strait of Hormuz
I live in SoFLA and have seen one of his kids around town a few times. The kid is 110% all-in on the "chosen people" mantra and seems to think everyone is beneath him. Miami Beach's jewish population loves him.

Ironically enough, I do business frequently with a secular Israeli dude who has introduced me into some of the circles he runs in (mainly other secular Israelis), and they all seem to despise Benjamin "Nutty-Yahoo" Mielekowski and his ilk.

NickC25··on Why the US Navy won't blast the Iranians and 'open' Strait of Hormuz
This is what everyone misses.

Bibi has been found guilty by his own court system of gross corruption. Bibi tried to neuter his country's court system as a result, which pissed off a lot of Israel's population. Everything from 10/7 onward has been done to encourage Israelis to rally 'round the flag and keep fighting the enemy. Bibi goes to jail if the perma-war stops. Bibi does not want to go to jail.

NickC25··on Why the US Navy won't blast the Iranians and 'open' Strait of Hormuz
This. It also fails to understand that the vast majority of the Iranians that are capable of change have actively left over the rule of the regime - that's why there are huge Persian diasporas in LA, Paris, London, NYC, etc. Those who have the money or smarts to leave, do so.

Also, a good majority of Iranian people might despise the regime, but also have long enough memories (or their parents do) of what happened the last time the West tried to intervene in their internal affairs.

NickC25··on Oracle slashes 30k jobs
Not an insult at all - the mormons are explicitly against swearing of any and all forms, moreso than any group of people i've ever met. they self-censor in a very unique way, they are super clean in how they speak.
NickC25··on Oracle slashes 30k jobs
this is the internet, not a Sunday service at your local mormon temple where swearing is banned. You can call Larry Ellison an asshole. There are few people more deserving of being called in asshole than he is.

Mark's personally worth more than 10x that, Facebook's got a 1.7 trillion market cap, so it really wouldn't move the needle for them. Cost of doing business and whatnot.

NickC25··on Goodbye to Sora
I occasionally use Suno to re-imagine songs in different keys, tempos, and genres, and sample them. Most of the output from Suno is slop, but occasionally has a few good bits you can sample, chop up, re-pitch, and create something totally new from, which also has the added benefit of being unrecognizable to rights algorithms and lawyers from major labels.

It's a neat tool for genuine creators, and a crutch for people interested in slop.

NickC25··on Hormuz Minesweeper – Are you tired of winning?
>secretly developing those capabilities isn’t either.

At least Iran's been pretty transparent about their intentions for a while now.

Israel maintains the "strategic ambiguity" about its nuclear "energy" development which is the stupidest fucking thing ever. Of course they've got nuclear weapons.

NickC25··on Hormuz Minesweeper – Are you tired of winning?
I'd like the Iranian regime to be destroyed, and I'd like for the Israeli regime under Bibi to be destroyed, too.

They both suck and both collectively fuck off for the betterment of humanity.

NickC25··on A Japanese glossary of chopsticks faux pas (2022)
I do. My parents (americans) lived between HK and Taiwan for a decade before I was born, and growing up, I was fortunate enough to have my folks teach me a bit of chinese. We'd regularly go to a local Chinese restaurant where the staff would speak to me in Chinese so I could practice speaking. Seeing as some of the staff were significantly older, my dad taught me to be hyper aware of customs surrounding dining norms and etiquette. One day I accidentally left my chopsticks in the rice bowl while there was still rice in it, and the waitress (an older Chinese lady) saw it - poor lady nearly fainted.

I did not make that mistake ever again.

For context - it's a way of saying "death to your family" or something akin to that.
