NeroVanbierv··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (August 2026)
Marple | Software Engineer | Antwerp, Belgium | Full-time | Hybrid (3 days/week onsite)

We build cloud software for time series data from test and measurement. Customers include F1 teams, electric aircraft makers, and hypercar companies. Building high performance systems is the core of what we do: typical datasets are 200Hz, 40k channels, 30 minutes, so 14 billion data points / test.

Stack: Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Apache Iceberg, Linux, Docker, AWS, Kubernetes. None required, but we want someone who has solved genuinely hard problems in code.

NeroVanbierv··on Warcraft III Peon Voice Notifications for Claude Code
I have a `notify` command in my `bin/` for a couple of years now. It's using an audio snippet from Her (2013) with Scarlett Johansson's voice.

Usage: `~ my-bash-command; notify`

NeroVanbierv··on Claude Opus 4.6
Just did a similar experiment but outside the harry potter universe to remove the training bias. It worked well!

> ChatGPT: "Generate a two page short story like harry potter, but don´t mention anyting harry potter related. make up 4 unique spells in the story that are used"

NeroVanbierv··on In Defense of Matlab Code
For me, the main appeal to MATLAB was the REPL experience, allowing me to experiment with ideas and inspect results in the UI. Python notebook have bridged the gap a bit, but always require a combination of libraries (with different docs & design choices) to write a single script.

NeroVanbierv··on Show HN: I rewrote my Mac Electron app in Rust
I would be willing to pay for this if it were available for Linux! Main use case: searching through my years of screenshots
NeroVanbierv··on `llmhelp` bash function to assist on infra work
How it works 1. Takes the last command from your bash history 2. Reruns it to capture the output 3. Gives this info to `llm cmd` to get a suggestion 4. Show the suggestion to the user!

Basically a quicker feedback loop instead of looking up params & typos on google.

NeroVanbierv··on Show HN: The Probability Times
Indeed, I’m just piping FiveThirthyEight > facts > LLM. And what the LLM makes of that is what you’re seeing, I tried to brief it as dry as possible in the prompt!
NeroVanbierv··on Show HN: The Probability Times
This was one of the hard parts of making this. I think I discarded about 70% of all generated images, and I was aware that the remaining 30% was still borderline sometimes.

I my blogpost, I have a few examples of the discarded ones, including one of Harris and Obama in a similar romantic vibe: https://nerology.substack.com/p/how-i-made-the-probability-t...

I think at some point in the prompt I literally said that they were not romantically involved.

NeroVanbierv··on Show HN: The Probability Times
I deliberately tried to keep the content neutral. The goal of the website is translating statistics to something tangible - not adding an extra sauce of assumptions to it!
NeroVanbierv··on Adobe's new image rotation tool is one of the most impressive AI tools seen
I think your last paragraph sums it up pretty nicely: users need a good UX to get to these tools.

So I would love if GIMP started shipping these awesome plugins by default to pick up the pace!

NeroVanbierv··on Experimental web browser optimized for rabbit-holing
While writing my thesis, I made a similar thing as a chrome extension.

It kept track of all tab opens & showed it in a node structure.

NeroVanbierv··on Show HN: Exploring HN by mapping and analyzing 40M posts and comments for fun
Ok I just noticed there is a region "OpenAI" in the north-west, but for some reason it zooms in somewhere close to "Apple" (middle of the island) when I type the query
NeroVanbierv··on Show HN: Exploring HN by mapping and analyzing 40M posts and comments for fun
Really love the island map! But the automatic zooming on the map doesn't seem very relevant. E.g. try typing "openai" - I can't see anything related to that query in that part of the map
NeroVanbierv··on X.com is Twitter, but what are [a-z].com?
Fixed!
NeroVanbierv··on InfluxDB /delete endpoint is disabled on InfluxDB cloud
Sounds like a profitable SaaS business model!
NeroVanbierv··on Shazam for singing
I think the main problem is that you often don't know the lyrics if you're trying to find a song. Recently a friend of mine hummed a song to shazam and it did actually work!
NeroVanbierv··on My broken ThinkPad plays music upon booting
I knew that I had the wrong word, but couldn't think of the correct one. Thanks!
NeroVanbierv··on My broken ThinkPad plays music upon booting
Actually, I did install the APK directly from Apkpure, but it didn't seem to do anything apart from loading the splash screen.
NeroVanbierv··on Show HN: CI/CD for time series data (by Marple)
Thanks! Yeah I like to draw the parallel to devops, because the interface looks somewhat familiar for people who know that. But the kind of analysis you're doing in Marple is actually a lot different

NeroVanbierv··on Show HN: Marple – Interactive time series visualization for engineers
Cool, thanks!

Is there a way to send data as it's generated? Yes! We have a tiny python SDK that can take care of that. Read more here: https://www.marpledata.com/docs/by-category/developers

[...] use data locally instead of having to upload it to your servers? No, not yet. We are however prototyping an influxdb integration. Would that cover your use case?

NeroVanbierv··on Show HN: Marple – Interactive time series visualization for engineers
We've indeed had other people confusing us with Maple before! Luckily Maple is not so often used in an engineering data context.
