Neputys··on EU Commission to open source software
untypically nice comment
Neputys··on European Parliament: UK and US are global hubs for money laundering, tax evasion
This doesn't mean a thing. Pure entropy. It's amazing how powerless EU Parliament really is AND how people don't get how powerless it really is.
Neputys··on The Dribbblisation of Design (2014)
What I'm saying, out of sympathy, is that you should consider a higher perspective. Maybe it's lack of care, just as an example, and maybe it's prejudice with reasons far beyond your control or sheer ignorance and so on. Now your writing gives of the feeling of things being muddled up in your head, not understood to the end, "clouded by emotion!" ;) Gotta snap out of it or you'll spent years malding like many do.
Neputys··on The Dribbblisation of Design (2014)
Design is not a thing that can die. It will exist for as long as the human race does. And so will shallowness, tastelessness, ignorance, self importance, agendas and marketing turkey cocks. Don't mix them together my friend, cheer up.
Neputys··on The Dribbblisation of Design (2014)
Just a part of all permeating superficiality in tech. The way the business is done got a breed of designers to match.
Neputys··on Tauri: An Electron alternative written in Rust
If you don't go beyond standard interactions and look it's probably fine but let's say I want system chrome to look like the one in photoshop and some custom dropdowns for starters...
Neputys··on Margaret Mitchell fired from Google
Don't know who's right but AI ethics AND harassment in one package feels like some sort of next level.
Neputys··on Tauri: An Electron alternative written in Rust
No there isn't (with resigned sobbing tone) there isn't. Everything GUI related on desktop is depressing prehistoric garbage that still takes ages to make and if god forbid you want something nice you might as well shoot your self.
Neputys··on Ask HN: What websites do you visit every day?
Well mostly:

1. skewed-narrow-debilitating-cringe.com

2. wars-are-good-for-my-stock-portfolio.com

3. jesus-jesus-uber-ales.com

4. raging-neurotic-troll-gangs-everywhere.com

Neputys··on EU Signs €145B Declaration to Develop Next Gen Processors and 2nm Technology
aaand here's a typical representative of said companies "positive for the union", "ask for transparency"...
Neputys··on Ask HN: What helps you deal with burnout?
My hard to follow but sincere advice would be - run. I think you know what you are doing and by the looks of things already know or at least feel where it's getting you. Be a little nicer to your self (and don't be stupid).
Neputys··on Show HN: An anti-book recommendation tool, to help you escape your echo chamber
If tribal ideology is all you are fighting then maybe. But it's a big maybe. Crap is crap. It will not get any less crappier if you get more diverse crap. If a person is not developing intellectually he'll take on some other BS that will be equally stupid. All effort in vain (unless that was the actual goal all the time).
Neputys··on Show HN: An anti-book recommendation tool, to help you escape your echo chamber
This is quite fun actually! Tried different philosopher combinations. Get Alcoholics Anonymous recommendations for quite a few until I add Schopenhauer. And if you are a Rand, Rowling reading techie, apparently, you should read more Eddo-Lodge, Baldwin and Chomsky... Brightened my day, thnx.

P.S. Are you sure this thing isn't pushing people from one echo chamber to another?

Neputys··on How UI developers can adapt, not die
...
Neputys··on How UI developers can adapt, not die
TL;DR: Start working with Google/Apple products/standards if you want to "keep up"...
Neputys··on How UI developers can adapt, not die
I object to the first line! At least where I am, designers get their fair share of same s__t. Including from developers ;)
Neputys··on How UI developers can adapt, not die
They did. If you're talking people of a certain caliber (Bret Victor etc.) I think they were dying for a wile now. There's just lots of guys all over the world in different companies doing essentially the same thing over and over again, no real innovation, no desire for it.
Neputys··on Agents raid home of fired Florida data scientist who built Covid-19 dashboard
For your brave actions in the face of danger I award you an upvote ;)
Neputys··on Why I Love Tailwind
So it's a _designed_ system then ;)
Neputys··on Why I Love Tailwind
It's more common than you'd think. The fact that you still care after all this time and also admit that you can't is actually commendable and very rare. There's nothing worse than an idiot dev who thinks he "has developed a sense". Congratulations on avoiding that fate for 22 years in row ;)
Neputys··on Why I Love Tailwind
A design question if I may. Site states "gives developers without a deep understanding of design the ability to build visually gorgeous, modern user interfaces".

I really don't understand this statement. If you are bad/good at design, how does Tailwind change anything? Can anyone please describe what it is/feels like in comparison?

Neputys··on Ask HN: Learning about philosophy
For starters: 1) Forget the Greeks. Anyone tells you to start from the Greeks they are snobs. Showing off and/or having a laugh at your expense. 2) Think about _your_ own "bigger life questions", what are they, what interests you. Give it time. Read something like Russell's History of western philosophy or list through a Philosophical dictionary. See who feels closer, more relevant to _you_. Maybe try this thing https://www.denizcemonduygu.com/philo/browse/ 3) Don't concentrate too much on the names. Same authors have books or parts on different subjects. Some of them will be to your liking some not. 4) Don't get into large complex works right away. For example Locke's essays on human understanding or Kant's Critique of Pure Reason would be a major pain in the butt to read as first philosophy book and you'd have to reread them later not to mention that you'll have to reread them anyway and not just once... Treatises on Government and/or Kant's Pragmatic Anthropology would give better chances to get hooked on. So you don't just autopilot read through the big ones without properly understanding a thing.

edit: 5) Then the Greeks ;)

Neputys··on The Game UI Database, a comprehensive reference of game interface design
In that sense, personally, everyone cares. But when people have to operate in big org environments priorities change. Think about it, no one wakes up in the morning and thinks I'm going to make something terrifyingly hard to use today. No one invests or gives grants for something that "is going to be terrifyingly hard to use", right? And yet dominating majority of big org software is terrifyingly hard to use. The answer to why? I think is the point you are missing. Your suggestion is commendable, interesting but no number of references or examples are going to help make your next project better as well as that why.

As far as UI/UX world goes it has a problem of becoming fashionable, popular and somewhat profitable. This always attracts certain kinds of people and hot air. I'm sure you have plenty of your own examples in academia.

Neputys··on The Game UI Database, a comprehensive reference of game interface design
How is Electron doing btw? I'm itching to use it in one project but it doesn't feel like it's getting any traction in the community for a long time now. Since it's a long term project I kind of get mixed feelings about using it.
Neputys··on The Game UI Database, a comprehensive reference of game interface design
As long as you exclude UI/UX from "getting things done" it's going to be notoriously bad. Academia, government, enterprise all the same. There's no accountability to actual users and doing UX properly would turn the whole project on it's head so guess why no one cares...
Neputys··on The Game UI Database, a comprehensive reference of game interface design
I'm a UI designer for almost a second decade now. In short textual content is the last thing I need from a site like this. Forgive me but that is just a load of pointless academic pedantry.
Neputys··on The Game UI Database, a comprehensive reference of game interface design
Thank you too. Both really nice sites. At first Interfaceingame feels way better designed but after a while it becomes over designed somehow. Personally, I would choose Interfaceingame visual style and gameuidb nav and naming conventions. (edit: visual style as in clean not dark :))
Neputys··on The Gernsback Continuum by William Gibson (1981)
I like your to the point dryness. A bit cynical, but to the point. What would you say was the reason for him being so popular then? This is a normal question. I agree with what you wrote.
Neputys··on The Gernsback Continuum by William Gibson (1981)
You are right on the money in a way. Neuromancer was the dream of the future everyone had, once. But it's just a "what" a manipulation if you will. Gernsback Continuum shows the depth of his insight it's a "why" and "how" something way more timeless. No surprise it becomes more relevant than his other work as time goes by. It's kind of sad, to me at least it shows he could have written something way more serious but chose fame and glory during his lifetime instead of shot at immortality so to speak. Really really effing sad...
Neputys··on Ten Bullets [video]
Right things explained by a myopic cretin. Wouldn't be surprised to find out that Corbusier was like that.
