But do we actually need it?
> As to whether his apparent passivity in the face of the war in Ukraine amounts to a moral stain on his reputation, history and his own conscience will judge.
I don't understand what the author expects from him after unfriendly behavior of the West.
It depends on how you code. I wrote a user instance in django and and I'm happy with it's performance.
Also Mastodon isn't the only platform, there are some other activitypub compatible engines which are able to federate with Mastodon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse https://fediverse.party/
Mastodon doesn't but standalone activitypub compatible blog does.
Profile pictures are not necessary used for glorification. It often used for trolling also, especially on classic forums.
Yes, there is big chance that it will be this guy https://cloudflare-ipfs.com/ipfs/QmTofb6peQmSFekcFAnufAsyQEm...
IPFS?
It's not that hard. I saw good example of paginated threads at livejournal.com: it paginates root comments and collapses large subthreads. https://ammo1.livejournal.com/1348094.html?view=comments#com...
If I was developing a new forum engine, I'd base it on federated activitypub protocol.
It doesn't make sense due to low prices for everything in their country.
Reminds me of this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_Ames#Death
But anyway, fsarchiver is my tool of choice for fs backups.
It's easy, just don't use sites like Facebook. Alternative is fediverse, it's not that big and unlikely will be too popular.
Why not? It's not a problem. Before internet era people spent much time on useless things like reading books (mostly fiction), watching TV, playing video games etc.
Internet is just a communication tool people use to exchange information.
Unfortunately most of those "better ways" are not federated.
Do they really come from gmail servers or it's just fake "from" header?
