NarcisMirandes··on Show HN: Building a Markdown editor for Mac, iOS and web
For me the founder is always the most important in any project. It helps to understand all the rest.
NarcisMirandes··on Show HN: Building a Markdown editor for Mac, iOS and web
It looks really nice. I definitely will use it.

Many questions come to mind: - What is the revenue model? - What is your personal story? Why you do not explain it in the site?

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
"AI is a powerful tool for lowering the cost of understanding"
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
A very good analogy!
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
And do you think you and we all will be able to manage, control or just guide AI without understanding what AI is doing, without understanding the code?
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
And what do you think about Paul Graham point? if no one understands what AI does... the human will not "manage" AI. Do I interpret PG well?
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
I do not understand the people who say that. That is why I posted that question, to understand their point of view even when I do not share it with the information I have.
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
Yes! "love" is the key point here.
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
How could I improve my question?
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
Paul Graham says: "even if you have AIs writing all your code for you..." I would like him to extend that. I would like his opinion on the other side. What if not? What if AI is not writing all the code for you?...
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
I feel very identified with what you explain.

It happened the same to me when trying other programs. Swift and Xcode are my main tools, and I feel that AI is especially bad in the Apple environment. That is not related to those programs nor Apple but because in that world we care specially about design and details.

There is a "feeling" a sensibility, emotion behind the code that I think a machine will never get. That is why I think I should keep learning code in all environments and perhaps in Apple platforms, a tech I love. A machine will never feel that, will never love.

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
Your point makes sense. I think there is something about it. On the other side this reminds me that in life, not only code, I learn much more from good things than bad things. I learn more from people, books... that I admire, that do great things. I cannot learn much from the mistakes that others do. They can sometimes even be "noise" that distracts me from what I should focus.

In life I learn a lot from my mistakes, not much from others' mistakes. Could we apply that to AI and code?

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
What do you mean "soft skills" in this context?
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
Good point. I should have defined "learning" before. For me it is write and understand a language: - Know how to write enough to make 80% of an app that solves the problem I want. The rest 20% with the help of other resources AI or other but only as teachers or helpers. - Understand 80% of the code. Use other sources to understand the rest.

As I say in the question I use AI as a teacher. What confuses me is that I see some programmers that I admire that say something like "I do not code any more" I do not understand how could they make good work?

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
I love that. "It's OK to be a human"... "we don't need to justify"
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
Paul Graham use to say something like: You can't think well without writing well. If I interpret it well, he views writing not as a way to record thoughts, but as the actual tool used to discover and refine them.

If I understand he says this related to regular text but we could extend to writing code too.

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
So do you think that "no-code" is just a trend, and we will all go back to code, just in a different way?
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
Your distinction makes sense.

But still, I am building relatively small apps and I do nor see any AI making clean, organized, long-term code. I do not see any path that they could do it in a near future.

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Should we still learn coding?
You say it better than be. This is my experience also. What surprises me is that I see so many important "coders" saying things like "I have stop coding, AI is doing it all" They will lose control of the code and forget how to do it well.
NarcisMirandes··on Requests for Startups: Energy
What could the a solution?
NarcisMirandes··on Requests for Startups: Energy
As Paul Graham says, we should be ambitious and optimistic. Energy is a big problem to solve. Perhaps the most important next problem? As @hodder says, YC is not the best place to build this. So, it is reserved for the big ones? What could be the solution? How to incentivize the creation of more in this field?
NarcisMirandes··on Requests for Startups: Energy
Ok. It makes sense. YC is not the best place for this kind of companies. Let's see if I understand your point and also to clarify for other people:

- Low capex = the startup doesn't need much money invested in physical assets such as factories, machinery, warehouses, or equipment.

- High ROIC = high Return on Invested Capital. The company generates a lot of profit relative to the capital it needs to operate.

- A VC wants a startup that can grow enormously without requiring enormous amounts of additional capital. YC focus on VC money.

Correct?

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: What browser do you use?
Why Firefox? What makes it different?
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: What browser do you use?
1- Not Chrome. Chrome has an overwhelming dominance https://www.w3schools.com/browsers/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers So, I would try anything else just for that. Perhaps I am a contrarian. Perhaps I do not like Google products in general.

2- Safari.

- For minorities. I like that

- Design, care for simplicity and detail

- Integration Apple ecosystem

- Security

- I read about the origin. Creative Selection: Inside Apple’s Design Process During the Golden Age of Steve Jobs, by Ken Kocienda.

3- Brave.

- Original idea.

- Small, specialized. For minorities

- I like the founder. Brendan Eich. He is also the creator of JavaScript and was previously CTO of Mozilla.

- I want to encourage projects with a strong founder and a novel idea for minorities.

- A good second option after Safari.

I am open to try other things. But it needs time. It has to be something very, very different. I will not spend that time for something 10% different or better. What do you thing, anyone could recommend me another browser with a clear difference?

NarcisMirandes··on Show HN: Vocab Top – AI-powered vocabulary builder that helps you retain words
I have tried and it works well. I bookmark it to use it in next days.

What I do now: I am in a small country in Europe and I use translations a lot, every day literally. I am in a Mac and I have a "space" dedicated to that with three things:

  - dictionary and Tesaurus. Free app in all Macs
  - translation. https://translate.google.com/
  - a Excel file where I save and review the new words
My first impressions:

  - Your tool could be useful as it groups all three in one place.
  - I have checked that it works well and it is nice and well designed.
  - I would have to spend time to reorganize myself, try a new way. There is and investment in time and the fear that it is not clear that that new way is much, much better. Perhaps it is only a bit better and I am not sure it is worth the time.
Why?:

  - Why do you do that?
  - Will it be premium layer later? What will happen with the people who has "invested" time and effort in your project?
  - What is your revenue model?
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: How do you figure out what you're passionate about?
For me, my goal is to be useful, to make the world better. I think I 'become' passionate about the things I do well. I know I'm doing something well when it helps others, when I see results. It's all a chain: try to solve problems -> sometimes it really helps -> I want to do more and I am more and more passionate about it.

My focus isn't "me": what am I passionate about. My focus is the "other": how can I help a few people a lot, or a lot of people a little.

So, for me I do not try to find my passion first. I try to pick something small that helps someone. Energy will follow.

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: I built it and nobody came. What got you your first users?
I am also in a similar situation. This is something I try to learn. Those are some sources that has been useful to me:

- How to get your 100 users. Sam Altman. Oct 3, 2024. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da7z-RcS6dM

- 50 Founders Share How They Got Their First Customers. YCombinator. Aug 9, 2023. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZp5j5hvn9I

- How to Get Your First 10 Customers. YCombinator. Jun 22, 2026. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FBivfgOvuE&list=WL

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: How do you find new books to read?
I keep a document with a list of possible books. I separate it by subject or genres. To feed that list:

- Suggestions from other people: HN, podcast, X

- Repeat the same author when I find a book I like

- Suggestions from Amazon and Everand. Based on a book I liked

I also keep another list of the books I liked more. Then I ask to an AI. If I like those books what other books I would also like?

NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: Confidence and Determination. How?
"do the thing repeatedly at the edge of your comfort zone and confidence follows" Sounds good, makes sense.
NarcisMirandes··on Ask HN: How did you get your first users with zero audience?
Definition of a startup: "a group of people trying to survive long enough to get lucky"

This is a good one!
