It depends what real world is for you. In embedded or with low bandwith it might.
Nab443··on PEP 762 – REPL-acing the default REPL
Something like https://hylang.org/ ? I suppose it won't work with compiled code though.
Nab443··on AMD Unveils Its First Small Language Model AMD-135M
Great, with that definition we can call all binaries opensource !
Nab443··on Open source maintainers underpaid, swamped by security, and going gray
Let's not forget Option 4: remove the dependency and migrate to another one still alive
Nab443··on A high-performance, zero-overhead, extensible Python compiler using LLVM
I don't see how "return (key, value)" is less readable than it's list counterpart. Now, why using a list that can grow, and so takes more space and maybe less efficient, for something that should not?
Nab443··on A Friendly Introduction to Assembly for High-Level Programmers
I would add that if you're targeting HL programming language users, this is something they should already have the knowledge of. It does not need a particular effortt to map that to what they alrady know.
Nab443··on State of S3 – Your Laptop is no Laptop anymore – a personal Rant
Or as a feature that will bring faster pc renewal..

You're missing the Lepidopterologist level.

What they contribute mainly profits windows and/or wsl.
Nab443··on Gamification gets drivers to put down their phones
There's a PC alternative for all those. And even a computer free one.. at least in my EU country. To me it would not be a bad idea, and the governements should ensure it's still possible to do all those things without a smartphone.
Nab443··on Hackberry-Pi_Zero – A handheld Linux terminal using Raspberry Pi Zero 2W
.. until their curious child decides to have a look at it.
Nab443··on Trolls Used Her Face to Make Fake Porn. There Was Nothing She Could Do.
They already started. I assume if she shows how the deepfake is violating copyrighted content she can win the case... she probably has a few tapes to show /s
Nab443··on A (not so) small library for terminal based game development
They mean that their code is written with strong assumption everything is written the way it is. If you make modifications to the internal or push an unexpexted type in it, they expected it to fail. There's no guardrail that everything is in a right state.. well, standard internal code.
Nab443··on Microsoft: Linux Is the Top Operating System on Azure Today
Except the very few that will take that option when there's a better open source alternative for free won't make it worth it.
Nab443··on Run CUDA, unmodified, on AMD GPUs
The last time I checked, I was stuck with a pretty old kernel if I wanted to have the last version of ROCm available for my rx470. It's compatible at some point in time, but not kept compatible with recent kernels.
Nab443··on The Linux desktop is self-destructive
It's about their workflow they where using, not Gnome 2 workflow. And.. you can add me to the list ;-)
Nab443··on Framework laptop delay in switching GPUs
To be fair it's still random from the user perspective.
Nab443··on Python grapples with Apple App Store rejections
You're mistaken, you don't actually own it.
Nab443··on What We're Working on in Firefox
Come on.. "hey Firefox, can you give me a summary of what's being said on my FB groups ont the side panel, and keep that updated every morning? Ho, and can you show me a boorkmak to start the coffee machine when I browse before 11am?"
Nab443··on What We're Working on in Firefox
Sometimes you don't want to sync your work bookmarks with your personal account, but have both on your work laptop... or vixe versa
Nab443··on Show HN: Open-Source Video Editor Web App
I would use the following behavior: the first time (loaded with empty storage) ask for confirmation, the next times (if loaded from storage) don't ask.

This would prevent people with auto cleanup to loose their work and avoid annoying others too much.

Nab443··on Re: Why Host Emacs Packages on GitHub? (Microsoft vs Freedom)
I don't think the issue is the "makes money", but the "need to make more money", which happen to increase over time. At some point, they start making money with your code, or your users..

Who knows what ideas are growing behind Microsoft walls to make more money of gihub users? See what happened with sourceforge as an example..

Nab443··on Emacs 2011-2023
And yet emacs is the only tool doing all these at once, able to save important emails in org mode list you can annotate and export in calc for further integration, running some python scripts to get the last vales to be included and update your static internal site with the result and progress on your tasks...
Nab443··on XZ: Repo maintainer Lasse Collin responding on LKML
> Where I live, there would be at least 2 different organisations that would be very interested to find out what happened as quickly as possible.

What makes you that confident they would? What if Jia actually works for them?

Nab443··on Google says Chrome's new real-time URL scanner won't invade your privacy
* for sites they have another way to do it
Nab443··on Hackintosh is almost dead
Even as a dev with 3 environment I've not had to tinker my kernel since I left gentoo something like 15 years ago, Ubuntu takes care of it..
Nab443··on Why I use Firefox
There are plenty available for mobile now, which ones are you still missing?
Nab443··on Keep your phone number private with Signal usernames
I read somewhere here that, in the case of what's app more metadata is shared with meta, and telegram doesn't have E2EE by default for groups. Didn't check though.
Nab443··on Tell HN: GitHub is blocking search unless you are logged in
I have a specific firefox container group for github and a few other applications so that it's not leaking cookies. No need to relogin.
Nab443··on Mozilla slams Microsoft for using dark patterns to drive Windows users to Edge
