NHQ··on Dogs distinguish human intentional and unintentional action

NHQ··on App store payments will have increased competition
Would it not be more profitable to process all payments for all internet transactions, rather than one app store?

Ditch app stores, fully integrate the web as a platform, then bake Apple/Google pay into the browser/OS, and just be the payment processor for all transactions.

This would also make it much easier for web developers to fetch payments from their apps, no third party API needed. The boost in volume from this factor alone should be considerable.

NHQ··on What Went Wrong?
This happened to Capt. Kirk in an episode of Star Trek. The legal move is demand to face the accuser. The accuser is the computer.

NHQ··on Web Audio API Is a W3C Recommendation
Worklets are out of the main process. That is good for a lot of what the script processors are designed for (compute intensive stuff), but having a script node in the main process is the only way I know to get perfect timing. Plus, the ScriptProcessorNode is just very easy to use for simple scripting, compared to the worklets.
NHQ··on Web Audio API Is a W3C Recommendation
Please please put the ScriptProcessorNode back in the spec.

NHQ··on Talent is everywhere, opportunity is not
You say easy, but I know it's not easy, and it's also not very rewarding the way they use you. I'm not a beginner to working for schools, cities, or the tech industry. If it was easy, they would look at my resume, check my references, grant me what i need to do the work, and then set me free to do it.
NHQ··on Talent is everywhere, opportunity is not
Depends what you call an accomplishment. I guess my fields are "web development", music, and deep learning.

I've published over 100 open source modules and projects across the "full stack". I have "live-coded" dozens of musical compositions (mathy algo music).

I haven't published any proofs or arxiv papers (yet), but I can both engineer data pipes and code deep learning models from scratch. That is to say, I'm a good programmer, I learned the math, grokked the principles, and can actively stay on top of the latest research and implementations. Who knows, maybe I have good ideas in this wide open field, too.

NHQ··on Talent is everywhere, opportunity is not
I have tech talents that maybe a few thousand people in the world have, and research ability to move the needle (maybe even novel ideas in the field, if you ask me).

I can't work in academia (no Ph.D), find capital (no connections), and the software job market is a crazy stupid PITA (no thanks).

I know it's me, that I can have what I want if I really go for it, and that is what I do by living simply and continuing my work.

But it would be swell if it was easier to be seen, at such a high level. I would gladly teach, if offered the role.

Basically, it should made way-too-easy for obviously talented, experienced, people to find some kind of work in teaching or civic developments.

NHQ··on Snapchat app has made over 5000 requests in the past 24h
No, snapchat doesn't care, dude.
NHQ··on The more you learn, the faster you can learn
This describes me pretty well. I'm a dedicated learner, and I think it's what I do best. I don't master topics. Even the information about the thing can be a distraction. It's about synthesizing info into your working knowledge. Everything is reference.

CSS is a great example. Do I know everything about it, even after 10 years? Nope. But I know it well enough that a quick reference is all I need for any problem.

Programming in general, too. Took me a minute to grok fundamental things (data types, functions, etc). I don't care what language I use, it's all one, plus syntax. I want to use other languages, for fun and synthesis.

NHQ··on Ask HN: Anyone Hiring Based on Open Source Code Review?
I've applied for front-end jobs and get asked some C.S. puzzle, to do something no front-end developer has ever needed to do (unless they wrote the one module everybody else uses).

And yet, it's not like I couldn't grok that if I needed to... just pay me and I'll figure it out, no problem.

The difference between me and the applicants they are filtering, is that I can both learn and implement w/e algorithm, in any language you want. Want proof? Just look at all these other algorithms I learned and wrote.

NHQ··on Ask HN: Anyone Hiring Based on Open Source Code Review?
Also, It shows no respect to qualified applicants. You want me to work for you, but you won't spend time going over my previous work.

My personal opinion is that programming should go the way of sports and entertainment: we should have agents. I have almost started this company several times. HMU if you want to help me start that.

NHQ··on Ask HN: Anyone Hiring Based on Open Source Code Review?
I wonder if they think the time sink will make you more likely to take the job.

And I think it devalues good programmers, because a test is not likely to display their true strengths.

NHQ··on Chaos Monkey Guide for Engineers
I built a similar, much more generic thing, to test networks with various failure modes [0]. It creates proxies for tcp/http/APIs, and handles those streams however you want—cutoff, slow down, dropout, or DIY handlers. Everything can be configured w/JSON, routed by API endpoints, and modulated live through an admin API. Process clustering supported.
