So I see absolutely no point here.
Have fun with your LG.
The only difference is that Google makes it easy for people to abuse the system.
Do you really think people like subscriptions?
People prefer to pay $50 for a 64GB micro SD card in a store, than $1/mo for 50GB cloud storage.
Offering your app for a one time fee is an advantage for the developer.
Because without it, you could be 100% sure the developers won't be updating them.
Now, lots of games from the late 90's, early 2000's don't work anymore on modern Windows versions. And DOSbox isn't powerful enough to run them.
What you do now?
Apple is not forcing anyone to adopt this model, and most people won't be comfortable with a subscription based game anyway.
However, for MMO's, subscriptions make sense.
It's a chicken and egg problem.
Facebook is a graph theory application.
Apple could do this very well, it makes sense from a business perspective, and from a technical perspective, it shouldn't be hard.
Too bad that what people want is to just turn off their brain.
For example, I want to mux a subtitle stream, with the real time clock in it, into a video stream.
Also, YouTube is a monopoly. It's the Microsoft Windows of online media distribution. Developers cannot afford to not release their software for Windows, now imagine if Microsoft decided to build an AppStore like iOS where they decided unilaterally the price of software and their cut, and it were dirty cheap! Damned if you didn't develop for Windows, damned if you did.
