BS! Samsung Focus S already has the Mango release. What update are talking about here? There was no major update after Mango that I know of.

It depends on how much you watch but for most, these two optons can't even be compared cost wise. Unless you watch less than 2 movies per month, the Netflix is way more cost effective as compared to iTunes at least here in the US.

And pray that it doesn't have a similar hole that gets discovered a few months down the line...

Don't forget the copyright tax that most android devices have to pay. Last I read majority of manufacturers were paying this for using android.

Also the story is not just about iPads. It's about all the personal electronics items. Kindles, laptopns and phones included.

Exactly. I used the OS for past week or so and haven't used much of metro at all. Because I am using it on my old laptop and haven't used metro as much.

I am planning to get a touch laptop in next couple of months and we will see how it works then.

I have. Not the metro as such but Win 8 CP on my laptop. When I read initial reviews, I was not sure how much I'd like this metro UI but to be frank, I haven't seen much of it in last week or so.

Since I am using Windows 8 on a non-tablet laptop, all I see is familiar windows 7 UI plus some improvements. Apart from the occasional metro launcher, I have not encountered the metro coolness at all.

That makes me think if this duality of OS that everybody is talking about is much of an issue at all. Sure the transition to metro from old UI is a bit jarring. In the first day of use which is what most reporters/blogger based their impressions on, you tend to see it a lot, probably because you are just exploring and poking around, not really using the it as you'd use day to day. And that's why everyone seems to be making a big issue out of it. I think the OS deserves a continued real life usage to get a better feel.

There are enough fans of the brand and the device that they will lap up even a marginal improvement over an existing product.

Undesrscores how powerful Google is. To many people internet is what Google shows to them. Though its a slippery slope, If the peson who is requesting for changes is liable for those then Google should comply. DMCA also has similar provision.

How about price?

Windows 8 has a similar experience built in whith the advantage that you have a full OS with you at all times if you need it.

You are rarely a complete consume. Like here: we are being tiny producers here writing comments.But even this part is not very convenient on a iPad. If you have tried the split/thumb keyboard on Windows 8, you'll know what I mean.

Download and give it a shot. It's actually very functional to use. The thing is if you are on a laptop or a desktop, the metro mostly shows up when staring an app. Otherwise it mostly stays away.

If you are on a touch based tablet, you are mostly using metro all the time. It actually works for most people.

He is trying to hide behind DMCA but I think the FBI found out that he actually solicited pirated copies of music/movies which might land him in trouble. YouTube still is a treasure chest of pirated content but is doing well being protected by DMCA. That's because they don't go around asking people to upload pirated stuff to their site. It's another thing that people willingly do that ;)

Given the kind of draconian control apple has on its store, there is always a risk if you are part of the ecosystem. But earning half income is still better than none right? Besides now windows has app store too and a much bigger distribution. If you don't like Apple's terms and your other platforms are making enough money you always have an option of kissing goodbye to apple. My point is that diversification gives you options.

Both androind and Windows provide guidelines to port over your applications over. So I don't think this option exists only in practice.

Sure. That's another way to release the software if it works for you. The article talked about a software released via mac appstore. So obviously web was not an option for him for some reason.

Windows only?!!! What did you expect from Microsoft? I don't see why it would spend time developing game for another platform and then give it awayt for free.

I was hoping to hear a little more technical apology from Microsoft. For a suit, reading what the VP posted might make sense, but for a techie like myself I really need to know that the platform is mature and stable. A detailed description of the problem helps me judge.

Diversification really helps. Basing something on a single platform, particularly one that is so tighly controlled is suicidal.

Of course there is Windows desktop that does not have such limitations and a much broader distribution that any other platform.
