So I guess back to Opera Mail. Other ones like TB, Sylpheed don't cut it for me.. I guess they have UI and network actions within the same thread, and that makes them get stuck.

People who are anti-GM are skeptical about scientists' ability to predict all the consequences of their meddling in living genes and chemical balance of nature components.
The nature had millions of years of coming up with sustainable balance between growth and death.
I hope no one will argue that many of the priorities in our current scientific environment are short term individual benefits, whether it is political, wealth or recognition.
This is the basis of anti-GM folk mistrust, and not inability to detect that everything is chemicals and cross-pollination is a gene modification as well.
I have only high school level ed, but I had to train many CS grads for real-life positions, since they were absolutely not fit for job. High schoolers were grasping the ideas much better.
One of the ways to start thwarting this spammy behavior is counter-network of twitter accounts, randomly inter-followed for further legitimacy.
Once a follower is identified as a spam, it's being mass followed. It would skew conversion rates and perhaps force clients to pay for fake followers, which they won't appreciate.

My point is that I agree with grandparent, that they just allow ads to be shown, and it's not technically impossible to reload ads, or prevent page contents view, if no ads visible. function verifyAds() {
if (!adContentsVisible()) {
loadAdContents();
}
setTimeout(verifyAds, 1000);
}
verifyAds();If I know their main communication agent is email and it's business hours, I will send an email.
My point is, you can make a perfect replacement for the email, from point of view of recipient, but people who are in control most of the time are the senders.
THEY will choose a way to contact you. If they see that FOR THEM it is more efficient to send a chat, SMS or email, they will do it.
Of course, you may try telling them: "That's it, I'm using only my new perfect todo tool", but I don't think it will hold for long.
I may definitely be totally wrong.
The original problem with tables was using them together with spacers to create layout, not much other uses.
There's no inherent problem with tables, it is perfect for tabular layout. Data grids are tabular, most forms are tabular.
It was fun to learn assembler entered directly as binary :P
For issue with losing the browser key, probably can be resoled by having a prominent backup/restore on USB drive feature.
> We think we can mitigate those concerns some by code-signing the exe, having the download from https, and building a recognized brand.
I don't see how all these resolve someone sending an email that looks exactly like yours, which links to a page that looks exactly like yours, which links to a malware executable.
Even with code-signing I wouldn't trust non-technical users to understand difference between popups, as well as resist close-all-these-annoying-popups reflex.
To make sure that the email is legitimate I'll have to either check the source, or seek in the mouse over. And after it is a "recognized brand", no one will be checking that.
I don't see how I could feel safe with executable file download links in the email. Maybe registering a scheme and sending in email a link with instruction to the file origin would be more acceptable, but that's only if the software is already installed. Ex: wirefrom://my@email.com
I think you're opening a can of worms. The email is HTML, so it would be very hard for my granpa to verify that the link is actually to your site. As you can imagine it is very easy to make the email and site look exactly like yours, and even make the link URL itself look similar.
