Myrth··on Is the lopsided Universe telling us we need new theories
It's unclear for me how observers can be sure that the differences they see are actually originated far far away, and not result of local interference: cloud or dark matter or whatever else. As far as I know, we have only 1 point of perspective, our Earth. Of course I have no idea how exactly they observe stuff, but that's the question I immediately have.

Myrth··on A basic guide to when and how to deploy HTTPS
Many people prefer partial HTTPS only for pages that need it. The danger of hijacking session id, mentioned in the article, is mitigated by IP protection - remembering client IP when session is created, and denying access of this session id for any other IP.
Myrth··on Universe May Have Been Around Forever, According to Rainbow Gravity
it's a nice reminder that big bang is one of theories and not an indisputable dogma
Myrth··on Universe May Have Been Around Forever, According to Rainbow Gravity
I know it is hard to accept that there might be things humans might not be able to explain.
Myrth··on Bitcoin value dives after China banks ban
the values of bitcoin, as I understand them, are ability to quickly transfer to any location without 3rd party, predictable total quantity, and exceedingly hard to counterfeit
Myrth··on Bitcoin value dives after China banks ban
1. someone in China downloads bitcoin client or opens online wallet, and someone from another country sends them bitcoins for service or anther reason.

2. mining.

Myrth··on Odds of Alien Life "Very High," House Panel Hears
Conflict may also come from misunderstanding. Imagine a civilization where individuals are blobs of goo, and their way to understand each other and procreate/mutate is to mix with each other. Now if they would encounter a human being and realize that it's sentient, they would try to understand it by trying to mix as they usually do. From human's perspective that would be an act of violence and would prompt immediate defense/offense.
Myrth··on Preventing 'layout thrashing'
This could have been a serious comment, trolling or sarcasm. I prefer to view it as the latter.

Myrth··on Building a PGP web of trust that people will actually use
How about using a bitcoin-like distributed blockchain to store proof events/transactions and use wallet balance as reputation?
Myrth··on Forced Exposure
> Also, the FBI does not handle most drug related federal offences. That is the DEA. Get your agencies right!

At this point I think you're just trolling everybody.

I'm not talking about enforcement, I am talking about FBI resisting drug law changes.

Myrth··on Why does NASA use gold foil on equipment and gold-coated visors?
Would feel like playing BF3 all the time
Myrth··on Forced Exposure
> These agencies are always willing to follow the letter of the law.

Only when they're not. Like one of the FBI's primary goals is to resist any law changes in favor of drug legalization.

Myrth··on Don't reinvent the scrollbar
Sometimes I'd like to have control over my full page representation and width across browsers and OSes, and scrollbars styling is missing or non-uniform or unreliable.

EDIT: Scrollbars are inside viewport, meaning they're effectively part of my document, and I'd like to have a say how they look like, the same as form elements.

Myrth··on Germany Sets Standard for Bitcoin Regulation
> Regulation defined as the ability to control transactions.

I'm not sure where would you get this definition. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation

> Regulation may refer to the following:

> A process of the promulgation, monitoring, and enforcement of rules, established by primary and/or delegated legislation.

> A written instrument containing rules having the force of law.

In this context they talk about monitoring and enforcing companies' use of bitcoins within legal system.

Chillax man, what FUD? I posted a link to a pretty balanced article that doesn't claim anything, just raises questions. Read the last paragraph.

Myrth··on Scientific Breakthrough Lets SnappyCam App Take 20 Full-Res Photos Per Second
> To put the speed in perspective, SnappyCam is about 4X faster than the normal iPhone 5 Camera app, and more than twice as quick as the Samsung Galaxy S4′s 7.5 shots per second.

Does it mean that S4's hardware is faster than iPhone 5 given they're using similar algorithms, and if you'd make the same app for Android it could get even better results?

Myrth··on Scientific Breakthrough Lets SnappyCam App Take 20 Full-Res Photos Per Second
Chrome 28 on Win8 here - works great, thank you for making it! Even though I personally can't use it since I'm on Android.

Myrth··on Wearing a mask at an illegal protest is now a crime in Canada
I think it should be obvious, but it is up to state prosecutors to decide who they want to prosecute, they're not legally required to do so.

But some people think that there's the same law for everyone.

The real state shareholders are multinationals and military-industrial complex.

The board's (government) responsibility is to the real shareholders and not to the product (people).

The state creates environment (just enough freedom, plenty of entertainment) for the product so it will not spoil (revolt).

Some people think that the there are democratically elected representatives and president. It is semantically valid, but does not serve the purpose implied by most people.

1. It is very easy to be white and fluffy before the elections, and turn around right after (and what are you going to do about it?)

2. There's no real choice anyway.
