Unfortunately, those kinds of stories also play into the narrative: be a good model employee, make sure the floors shine and trust that hard work, and great ideas will make you deservedly insanely rich. Because there are smart CEOs who will see all of that
Cinderella, capitalist version.
Too rare to be significant as a policy. Most likely does not scale. Too often, dreams are useful to convince people to accept their fate.
Then, it is a lot harder to reach to your cellphone when you walk. So it helps me get rid of 2 major distractions, body and phone, with very little effort. Now I can think.
I know some people at lower levels (blurring, moderating) being laid off just before one year just because they don't want to consider them as full blown employees.
Or is there à better way there?
Plus, it's just a game, nobody died. And it's fun to watch how a very small player beat a giant keeper through creativity and boldness.
I currently do software engineering/dev, account management, sales (sort of), and business management by myself. Small biz, not a startup, profitable enough to pay a fair salary after mine.
I'd rather start with one person than 2, and I'll have a hard time believing that 2 people is absolutely necessary where 0.2 is the current situation.
I think a strong IC Sales + Marketing, who can work solo, generate revenue (Sales), while thinking longer term and process (Mktg + sales op), would be a killer.
Does it exist or am I dreaming? Anybody has such experience, seen it working or not?
So I am glad I did not sweat over those, and got something up and running, and did not get bogged by some of those very difficult questions.
Hopefully for the projects that stick around I'll be able to do some clean-up...
Took me a while on my small phone to see there was a North, therefore the 0 was not trigonometric on the right. Then I realized that the north was not up. By the time dumb me finally understood all this, I wondered if the angle should be negative like -90 degrees when towards west, or +270??
Finally I tried to do 180+45, entered 235, was told I was again not a human, realized I was super dumb about my math, and now wondering if the 2 minutes were expired.
And just spent 5 minutes explaining all that rather than trying again. Captchas can be overkill.
If you are not a restaurant, and eating polenta is fine for you, and make you save time and increase fun, then go for it!!
My business is not programming, is to provide a service.
I understand the right tool may make a tremendous difference in a big team or someone coding full time, but not for me.
In my case, using javascript on the front end and PHP in the back, and as a scripting language for servers was frustrating. Function names are always slightly so different...
I increased my productivity and my fun tremendously when I switched to Node on the backend.
Sometimes I am thinking about using Python for computer vision stuff. Nope... Everything Javascript, so much better for my sanity.
About 50% of businesses close their door in the first 5 years, not 95%. [1]
When someone makes such a common huge mistake, I am thinking that either they are not the slightest competent, or that they have an agenda that cannot be justified with realistic/honest numbers.

The respectful admiration that people have in the US for big businesses and successful entrepreneurs doe not exist in France. Instead, there is the same feeling for the rebellious, for the one the fighting against big businesses, for the people.
