MrMan··on Teenage Engineering Field Desk
hate, hate Teenage Engineering but I love this approach to humiliating your customers who deserve it if they bought the OP-1
MrMan··on The digital pound: A new form of money for households and businesses?
banks in the US can borrow from multiple sources to secure funds which they can then lend out. depositors are a major source, perhaps the largest source. are you saying that this is not true? I am not super familiar with the UK system
MrMan··on Ask HN: To the introverts and socially avoidant, how the heck do you network?
I am a mild extrovert IRL, but have become an introvert in work matters. I don't trust anyone after some bad experiences and it is ruining everything. I need to find a new situation but am haunted by past events and effectively now have no social network for work so I am dead in the water.
MrMan··on Historical Timeline of the Akai MPC
I am torn about the new MPCs. The linux based ARM system makes it really easy to develop new features, and support things like running arbitrary plugins (though ones that Akai deploys only), but the midi timing of the device is bad. The MPC 4000 was an incredibly focused device which excelled at two things - being a sequencer and being a sampler. I like using the new MPC, but I dont like the results as much.

MrMan··on Tell HN: DEI initiatives undermine the self esteem of PoC within a company
I don't know about falsifiable, and I think you never reach a goal as broad as eradicating ethnocentric thinking, but one way to short circuit a lot of this nonsense is to somehow achieve a lot more intermarriage between disparate ethnic groups, as well as mire immigration.
MrMan··on The rise of universities’ diversity bureaucrats (2018)
the black squares if I remember correctly were a way to signal that you are a good person who supports people who have been oppressed. maybe I am misremembering what the black squares were for - was it supporting World Government? which we also need
MrMan··on As a US Navy fighter pilot, I witnessed unidentified anomalous phenomena

MrMan··on The unequal treatment of demographic groups by ChatGPT/OpenAI content moderation
we need to return to the very high levels of immigration we had in the 19th century, it would really help our population and economy to grow. it will help the country a lot in the long term
MrMan··on Ask HN: How do you plan on making money with Open AI API?

MrMan··on Gawker Is Shutting Down

MrMan··on The army of maths prodigies who helped Brighton conquer the transfer market
I think that the edge Brighton has is real but temporary. Bloom has to be eyeing an exit to a very well capitalized entity. The competition in the EPL doesn’t necessarily care about making a profit so teams that need to be sustainable can’t survive in the long term. Even mid and lower table teams are now mostly owned by what would have been considered incredibly wealthy owners 10 years ago but they can’t spend like oil countries can. It will be interesting what exit the Chelsea owners were expecting when they went in. Owning a premier league team is not the country club life that owning an American sports franchise is, it’s likely a money losing proposition.
MrMan··on Internal Tech Emails: Mark Zuckerberg: “VR / AR Strategy”

MrMan··on Tesla reports record revenue and beats on earnings
I dont enjoy the buying experience at the dealership but when it comes time to have it serviced I am very happy not to have to put it on a trailer to be sent out of town to be fixed, and then wait weeks to get it back
MrMan··on Roger Linn on Swing, Groove and the Magic of the MPC's Timing (2013)
I only use the MPC 4000 for sequencing I need to talk to this shop you are using these things are getting harder to get parts for. I wish someone would make a replica with a copy cat OS
MrMan··on Ask HN: Math books that made you significantly better at math?
take math classes, start a level lower than you think you need to, do lots of practice problems
MrMan··on Ask HN: Math books that made you significantly better at math?
I have a remarkable 2 and a Microsoft Surface Pro, intended to de-clutter math coursework. Both work, but I found that the real estate on the remarkable was too limited, even though its a great device, so I tried the Surface Pro. I can fit just about any sized work onto it, and you can endlessly scroll down which was something I couldn't figure out on the remarkable. It makes doing math easy or at least takes away some housekeeping which I find really distracting. And saving and organizing work and being able to import and export files is a bonus.

MrMan··on George Hotz wants to ‘make driving chill’ with next-gen assist
really cool but I feel like this is already such a crowded space, everyone already has something similar in their line of cars. I am sure he can sell it to someone who doesnt have the resources to do that R&D
