MrBuddyCasino··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
I‘m sure they were aching under the pressure of organizing cocktail dinner parties that their evil husbands forced them to host.
MrBuddyCasino··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
There are a few theories mentioned as to why this is happening, but not this one: throwing dinner parties takes time, and women‘s participation in the workforce has grown steadily.

There are less women with free time on their hands and the need to mingle with people they wouldn’t otherwise encounter, because they’re at home most of the time.

MrBuddyCasino··on Pirating the Pirates
You're right, now that you mention it. I want a version that combines the Arrow contrast with the Lorber colours. How strange that they still didn't get it right.
MrBuddyCasino··on Pirating the Pirates
Is it just me or is the Lorber version the only one with correct colors?

Everything about technological progress is like this. It props up their ego, and they risk nothing. The man in the arena is always dangerously close to being the villain.

> Did they win and make the other side illegal? No.

That is exactly what they did. The Civil Rights Act usurped the constitution.

MrBuddyCasino··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
So man‘s fallen nature rules out any form of good governance then? What a weird argument.
MrBuddyCasino··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
You are mixing every western conflict you've heard of in one big bucket, stir vigorously and call it an argument. What do wars of religion (which happen under most forms of government, except perhaps communism) have to do with democracy?

What is "the Civil Rights and universal suffrage movement in the US" if not a continuation of the leftist politics that Roosevelt started? What has the authoritarian Franco regime got to do with "democracy"?

None of this makes any sense.

MrBuddyCasino··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
> to me, democracy is really about giving the masses enough feeling of agency, because the alternatives are either revolution and/or disengagement / low productivity / low creativity, and both are "bad for business" i.e. cannot compete with democracies.

I'll pick this one because it is the easiest to refute (but the others are wrong, too). What form of government was predominant during the most creative and productive periods in recent history, namely the industrial revolution and the Italian Rennaissance?

You even mention China yourself, but do not update your priors.

MrBuddyCasino··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
> The magic of democracy isn't that it promises good governance, the magic of it is that it provides a clear avenue for a peaceful transfer of power that is exercised every few years.

We are currently witnessing the dismantling of this illusion. The reason western governments increasingly engage in lawfare against the opposition is that for the first time since the post-WWII order, they are threatened by a real regime change.

MrBuddyCasino··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
Quite the opposite, the problem is democracy:

"In democracy, one side always wins and makes its opponents illegal."

“The claim to legality renders every rebellion and counter-measure an injustice and a legal violation or ‘illegality.’ If legality and illegality can be arbitrarily at the disposal of the majority, then the majority can, above all, declare their domestic competitors illegal, that is, hors-la-loi… Whoever controls 51 percent would be able legally to render the remaining 49 percent illegal… and to treat partisan opponents like common criminals, who are then perhaps reduced to kicking their boots against the locked door.”

Also, don’t underestimate data retention and such. Big Corp will never send their LLM traffic to China.

MrBuddyCasino··on Don't let anyone take away your big box of cables
What self-respecting household has only one box of cables?

You need at least one big one for the mains-rated bulky ones, and a few smaller ones: USB, Monitor/Ethernet etc, Audio.

I can recommend the small Ikea Knagglig boxes, they look nice and have the right size.

MrBuddyCasino··on I resigned from Anthropic today
Towards a metaphysics of Power

"I think you need to have a personal relationship with Power"

When people today discuss the concept of an all powerful machine-mind, what they are doing is engaging in metaphysics, trying to generate a metaphysics of Power.

The question hounding people, which disguises itself as a science fiction plot about computers is: "What is ultimate, transcendental Power?". What is the ultimate principle of Power.

If you are a weak man, or sufficiently neurotic and full of doubt, that you can only conceive of yourself as such, then power is only something you comprehend from the passive, receptive side. Power is something that happens to you. If you are a fearful man, power is a cruelty and a humiliation. And so it follows, that ultimate power - God - is the ultimate cruelty and the ultimate humiliation. Thus, ai doomerism.

If god wasn't real it would be necessary to invent him, and so they did, and being godless, they built an anti-god - cruel, murderous and tyranical - in their minds.

I believe this to be completely mistaken, because the bang-for-buck is getting better. Luna on max thinking is very capable and builds you a feature for 20 cents.

Its just that in a gold rush, there are few winners and many losers. There used to be hundreds of car companies in the beginning, only a dozen or so survived long term.
