MrBuddyCasino··on Kimi K3 Is Competitive with Fable; Kimi K3 and Fable Is SoTA
> GLM 5.2 has been good at select tasks but really shit at others

Yeah it really likes to shit the bed after thinking forever. Even if it can do some things, the quality is not quite up there in my experience.

MrBuddyCasino··on Show HN: I replaced a $120k bowling center system with $1,600 in ESP32s
That one was perhaps more of a cautionary tale, given the economics.
MrBuddyCasino··on The Kimi K3 Moment
Almost as if centuries of passing the imperial exam by either skill or cheating influenced Chinese culture a lot.

> GLM 5.2 came out under an MIT license, beats the latest Opus release on real work while not even claiming to be frontier

I used GLM 5.2 a bit, and while it is usable for some tasks it is not frontier quality. Besides it likes to think for a long time and sometimes just gives up.

MrBuddyCasino··on America pays workers just 27% of what its wealth allows – the worst in the OECD
As if workers got paid by "what $wealth allows". As if there was a "right to dignified work" (what is "dignified"?). As if there was a "right to fair income" (whats "fair"?).

This is, in the immortal words of Norm McDonald, some "commie gobbledygook". I don't think there is any "newspaper", as in traditional print publication, left worth reading.

MrBuddyCasino··on Autopsy Study Finds Replicating SARS-CoV-2 in the Hearts of Long Covid
This is why I‘m excited for the attempt to vaccinate against the common cold and influenza: https://blog.interceptfund.com/p/ending-respiratory-infectio...
MrBuddyCasino··on After 7 years in production, Scarf has reluctantly moved away from Haskell
Same, the article is really solid but then they choose to migrate to… Python?

This feels like someone giving a great commencement speech, then proceeding to pull out a gun and shoot himself in the foot as the final act.

MrBuddyCasino··on Apple sues OpenAI, accuses ex-employees of stealing trade secrets
> This isn't something you can screen for in a classic job interview.

It is in fact very easy to scan for.

MrBuddyCasino··on Muse Spark 1.1
I have no issues via openrouter.
MrBuddyCasino··on Grok 4.5
That’s unreliable. Gemini is nice because its always perfect.
MrBuddyCasino··on Grok 4.5
Generous free tier, when its not overloaded.

Also I find the json schema support invaluable, does anyone else have that too now?

MrBuddyCasino··on Apple to increase spend with Broadcom to produce billions more U.S. chips
Very good. Sometimes I‘m too impatient.
MrBuddyCasino··on Apple to increase spend with Broadcom to produce billions more U.S. chips
Every time I trust my memory it betrays me.
MrBuddyCasino··on Apple to increase spend with Broadcom to produce billions more U.S. chips
You probably know this, they don't have wonky performance but are even bigger. An oven around a crystal.
MrBuddyCasino··on Apple to increase spend with Broadcom to produce billions more U.S. chips
Honestly, the "HF physics is black magic" trope has made me numb to the phantastical contraptions. I appreciate when they look cool, like esoteric orgon wave radiators.
MrBuddyCasino··on Apple to increase spend with Broadcom to produce billions more U.S. chips
Fascinating. I suppose they can be smaller than quartz crystals?
MrBuddyCasino··on GPT-5.6 Sol, along with Terra and Luna, will launch publicly this Thursday
What do you feel is the best model for interface design right now?
MrBuddyCasino··on FFmpeg 9.1's new AAC encoder
These kinds of forums are some of the best parts of the internet. Many still exist, but they're slowly shrinking unfortunately.
MrBuddyCasino··on FFmpeg 9.1's new AAC encoder
In audio, this is usually the case. Musepack was niche-popular for some time as a simple, but very well tuned codec.

Its the same with speakers and headphones. People think its the component quality, but it’s mostly competency in overall audio physics and the ability to tune well.

MrBuddyCasino··on How do wombats poop cubes? (2021)
Interesting. Somehow I never see people referencing them in this spirit, but that may be more on those people than on the price itself, perhaps.
MrBuddyCasino··on How do wombats poop cubes? (2021)
Does the ignoble exist for anything else besides making fun of easy targets, like a bunch of sniveling teenagers?

MrBuddyCasino··on My Steam Machine Is a 50ft HDMI Cable
I just use Steam Streaming. If that doesn't work because they fucked it up again, Parsec. MBP as a terminal, smol ITX T1 running Windows as host.
MrBuddyCasino··on Munich 1991: The Roots of the Current AI Boom
There is a long list of grievances I have regarding the (mis-) use of taxpayer money, and funding the hard sciences is way, way down. I can’t even see it from where I stand.
MrBuddyCasino··on Munich 1991: The Roots of the Current AI Boom
Yes there is no substitute for academia. Monopolist's research labs get close (Bell Labs etc), but they tend to be more "applied".
MrBuddyCasino··on Munich 1991: The Roots of the Current AI Boom
This is a straw-man if I ever saw one.

Practically no one is against hard science research, properly conducted. The issues are rampant fraud / p-hacking / unreproducible garbage mixed with an unhealthy dose of ideological monoculture and indoctrination, garnished with rising tuition prices while sitting on huge endowments in case of the Ivy Leagues.

MrBuddyCasino··on The European Social Stack

Ah yes, there it is. We‘ve learned how to translate this in our heads.

MrBuddyCasino··on Hospitals and universities repurposing drugs at lower cost
Are you under the impression that dentists are under competitive pressure? The labour supply is artificially limited, similar to other doctor specialisations.
