MostlyFragile··on YC startup offers interviews to people who get their name permanently tattooed
I don’t think it’s necessarily a red flag for the person getting the tattoo but it is for the company.

I have a few tattoos. All of them I mulled over for >1yr before I went through with it. I definitely wouldn’t do this. There’s others I know who are coated in them and getting another isn’t a big deal, just a bit of fun.

Some people in related threads are getting moralistic on those receiving. There are people who don’t value the space on their skin like others and it’s not a big deal or even, a fun story.

Regardless I disagree on the above that this isn’t inventive. I haven’t heard of this and there’s posts popping up talking about this company. I wouldn’t want to work for them but there’s clearly some that would. It seems like it worked for them.

MostlyFragile··on Ask HN: Why call it "inference" instead of just "model hosting"?
I wouldn’t say they’re interchangeable. You would have both apply to a model but they have different meanings.

You’d host the model so it’s available to be used.

You’d request it to infer when you wanted to use the model for its purpose.

Love the dude. Met him in line of a Chris Hadfield/smarterEveryDay talk. Absolutely fan-boyed haha. Super nice in person too
MostlyFragile··on Ask HN: Can HN ban new accounts? or charge money?
I don’t think ‘difficulty getting an account’ == ‘mutual respect’. I think you can make the hoops tougher without sacrificing the culture. Though I’m not sure how best that would happen.
MostlyFragile··on Why doesn't HN have a mobile app?
I use Octal which does everything I would need. Night mode, Pleasant UI, and lightweight
MostlyFragile··on Why doesn't HN have a mobile app?
Perhaps the concern is more eyes means more poor content?
MostlyFragile··on Ask HN: Personalized mRNA cancer vaccines, how real is the pipeline today?
CAR-T recipient here! It's been a cure some some bleak cancers. Very much a game changer with seemingly a lot more to uncover with it before we move onto something else. Unfortunately for me, mine resides in bone which is hard to traverse.
MostlyFragile··on Immunotherapy drug clinical trial results: half of tumors shrink or disappear
As a young person with Multiple Myeloma, these articles give me hope but I know a cure is a long way off.

I feel like I'm at the stage where Ill be one of the last people to die from it or I'll be one of the first to be cured of it.

I'm watching companies like Deepmind with great interest. It's my hope that these AI tools speeds up a cure before it's too late.
