As for the camera, I don't know the quality of the camera in any iPhone. But I think the camera in my Nexus 4 is good. It's not very good, but it's not ugly. I'm also not a fan of large size phones... Before. But when I tried browsing using Nexus 4, I felt that I don't want to have a smaller screen again.
What is the fastest algorithm for matrix multiplication?
I think those "What is the fastest" questions are relative. In my opinion, they are not unsolved problem. There are already solutions for them. And in those current solutions, there is of course the fastest.
When a faster algorithm is formulated, a time will come where another algorithm will perform much better.
EDIT: Now I get it. That "fastest" is in terms of time complexity. Thanks guys. :)
But if you want the "bad" hacking, it's called cracking. I think learning those too and some network understanding maybe essential. But that's just how far I can say. I don't know much about cracking in general.
"Those people are not the norm, they are the special case. Well yeah, you’ll not know you’re a special case unless you took a chance. And that’s the hard thing about it."
With this, I think the rumored $1B acquisition price is worth it. Without a good (or any) business model, I'm worried that Tumblr will eventually die out. This offer by Yahoo is a win win situation for both. I really hope that Yahoo will not destroy the Tumblr feel and environment.
I'm really excited about this. Any what will it turn out to be. And if in any case Yahoo eventually destroys or break Tumblr, I think there will be a new opening in the micro blogging space for young people to use.
I'm imagining it to be implemented like a public-private key. Maybe the odd number can be the private key. And three prime numbers can be the public keys. The hash can't be decoded by just the single public key. It needs all three of the public key to decode the hash. Well, with just abrupt thinking, I think it can be more secure? (Not really sure about it though. Just a guess.)
Additional question is how you extract the images in the text?
Btw, your http://summary.io is almost the same as my http://readborg.com/ (sorry, login required and it's still invitation only).
Excellent post by the way. I'm really happy seeing posts about automatic summarization.
I don't really heard of Wavii before their acquisition thus not knowing what they really do. Sorry.
There are also some features that are considered in automatic summarization: title or headline, it is the title of the document. Sentence position or where the sentence is located in the text; introduction, body, or conclusion. Sentence length or how many words are in the sentence. Lastly, keyword frequency which is just how many the words appear in the text. There are also other features but I think those 4 are the most important.
The computation of those feature scores, stop words and some constants will affect the output.
Lastly, to evaluate your summary, you may want to use the ROUGE evaluation toolkit (http://www.berouge.com). It needs a reference summary created by a human as a comparison and determine the quality of your summary based on precision, recall, and F-score. ROUGE has different methods to evaluate the summary. There is ROUGE-L which considers the longest common subsequence. There is also ROUGE-W which adds weights. And many more which I don't remember.
That's it. I'm really a fan of automatic summarization and also hoping to create a good algorithm for abstraction.
Edit: sorry for the lack of links and references, it's hard to do those in mobile.
On another note, the learnings, experience, and connections I gain in the startup compensate the low salary I'm getting. This is my first real job. And I think I'm getting a lot of knowledge in terms of technology and management side.
Anyways, he's amazing. Even though he get back twice, he still continue his plan and do it. Roadblocks didn't stop him.
I still have other papers, but those can be a good starting point.
In my thesis, NLP is done via statistical approach. It learns from it's previous summaries does have somewhat learning. I don't see any problems combining NLP with Machine Learning. Can you elaborate on this?
Right now, abstraction or paraphrasing is hard to do by a computer. But I think and hopefully it will be possible in few years time. There are various open source and academic tools that can do some pretty good NLP. I'm looking into Apache OpenNLP, and WordNet. I'm hoping for 2 or 3 years time.
BTW, I have an app similar to your tldr.io. Check my HN comment (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5523770) for more info about it. ;)
Here's a preview of mine (http://www.textteaser.com/ui/article?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.p...). Go to its home page to read more news. It caters Philippine news and will soon enters alpha stage. I'm planning to open up the API or open source it. HN, which is better? The API is ready, registration is the only thing that it lacks.
You can try the API here: http://api.textteaser.com/api/?url=http://www.theverge.com/2...
Just replace the url parameter with the URL of what you want to summarize. Some URLs are not tested yet, and may produce errors. :)
