MojoJolo··on Aviate joins Yahoo
You might be right. So this is the case for Aviate. How about other startups?
MojoJolo··on Aviate joins Yahoo
This might be out of context, but a question though. How this companies get bought? Of course, building a great product is part of it. But are they shopping around, emailing / visiting bigger companies to buy them? Or they will just wait until some bigger company contact them and have some negotiations?
MojoJolo··on Aviate joins Yahoo
You now have a chance. They are giving away some codes right now: https://www.facebook.com/aviateapp/posts/195912073936304
MojoJolo··on Aviate joins Yahoo
Congratulations to Aviate. I think they're just a new company, I'm not sure.

I really love their home screen and I was afraid that Yahoo might shut them down. If that's the case I don't have anything to replace from Aviate. I like the combination of Aviate as home screen and Cover[0] as my lock screen.

MojoJolo··on 92 Facebook Apps Have Access To My Account
I think he has a point. My father, mother, and even my grandfather uses Facebook. Why are they using it? Because it enables them to keep in touch with their classmates and friends. Long lost friend especially. They are too long apart that email, IM, Skype, and text does not exist yet.

Additionally, for email, IM, Skype, and text, you need to know their email address, username, or number to contact them. In Facebook, there's a chance that you can find them by just searching their name.

MojoJolo··on Tools for the data science craftsman: R, Python, Clojure and Julia
I just became a Data Scientist this year and it enables me to dive into different datasets, graphs, and algorithms. Been using somewhat three of the "language" mentioned.

I'm new to R and just been creating simple plot graphs. I'm liking how it illustrates my data from the csv file. I never tried matplotlib but my colleagues prefer it instead of R.

Python is my go to language for fast scripting and programming. I also like how easy a REST API can be done in Python using Flask.

On the other hand, I don't use Clojure and Julia. I think I heard Julia before but not really familiar with it. For Clojure, I prefer Scala. Not because of performance or anything, it's just the language that I learned first. I think they have the same purpose as presented in the article. Just like Clojure, the "JVM goodness" is also present in Scala. I like that it can use Apache stuff like OpenNLP, IO, etc.

Been combining Python, Scala, and R in my work. Python for REST API, Scala for the algorithm or heavy computing, and R for the visualization of data.

MojoJolo··on Code != computer science
This. If you're judging Computer Science by coding, you are making a huge mistake. Computer Science does not teach you how to code. I remember the only time my university teach me how to code is during our introductory course. Computer Programming 1. And that's it. You're on your own in your coding.

Computer Science is more than just coding. It involves graphs, complexity, math, theories, and much more. Which is a lot. And is hard.

Like math, anyone can do math. But not anyone can be a mathematician. Anyone can code, but not anyone can be a computer scientist.

MojoJolo··on Meta unveils next version of augmented reality glasses for $3k
The price is steep but Steve Mann (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Mann) is there chief scientist. I think if anyone we can trust about AR, Steve Mann is the guy. He's wearing those glasses before it was cool. He got a lot of experience, and troubles with those glasses (see "steve mann mcdonalds"). He really know what he's doing.
MojoJolo··on Ask HN: What stack do you use to build a REST API?
Before, I use Scala + Finagle. Right now, I really like using Flask for my REST APIs. It's so lightweight and easy to set up.

I still use Scala though for data / computation intensive code. The setup is REST API with Flask, add to queue to be dequeue by the Scala worker. I really like the combination.

MojoJolo··on Upcoming Nexus 5 leaks in white, Nov. 1 launch date reported
Yes, I'm afraid that it's there marketing strategy. I think it works for Nexus 4 and gain them massive attention with the people. I'm just hoping that they will not do it again because there are more people now that are aware with the Nexus line and waiting. I know some people that are waiting for Nexus 5 but have a deadline for themselves. And if they don't get Nexus 5 immediately, they will just buy a different phone. Looks like a miss customer for Nexus.
MojoJolo··on Upcoming Nexus 5 leaks in white, Nov. 1 launch date reported
I'm wondering if the launch will still entail the problems that encountered before. Can't handle the traffic, not much stock, problems with shipping, etc. It is because I'm looking forward to get one, but I'll be staying here in SF till Nov. 8. So if the launch still has those problems, I might not manage to get a Nexus 5.
MojoJolo··on Show HN: Unirest
Nice one Augusto and Mashape. I checked Java and it is using Maven. I would like to contribute with Scala and SBT.
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
This made me laugh. And $15m is big enough for me.
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
Nope. :) You are imagining it.
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
Hi, I focus on blog posts because I don't want it to be broad. This was because TextTeaser is my research for my graduate studies. And having a broader research means harder to accomplish. But it doesn't mean it can't be used to other type of text. It can still be used. It's just optimized for news.

I'm a little bit familiar with TextRank because I stumbled upon it when I'm doing my research. I also read several algorithms but forgot what they are called.

MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
The corpusEN.bin file is the training data provided by OpenNLP which I used to split sentences (http://opennlp.sourceforge.net/models-1.5/). It's not the training data used for summarization.
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
It's more of statistical NLP and a bit of machine learning. The algorithm can be found here: https://github.com/MojoJolo/textteaser/blob/master/src/main/...
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
You are spot on on the paper that I referenced. As you can see in 4.3 which is in page 3, the paper mentioned two algorithms for sentence selection. These are Summation-Based Selection and Density-Based Selection. Which is SBS and DBS respectively.
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
What do you mean by LSA? Are you referring to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latent_semantic_analysis

If it is, I'm not using it. :)

MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
You are right, I'm not taking account of HTML tags. It is because I extract the text beforehand using Pythoon Goose. In that sense, only the text will be feed in the algorithm without any HTML tags.
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
It's mostly statistical (simple scoring). But as you can see in this lines of code: https://github.com/MojoJolo/textteaser/blob/master/src/main/... I keep track of the keywords used by the blog and category before. Through it, TextTeaser employs a little bit of machine learning to improve the quality of the results.
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
Maybe in the future I can improve it without requiring the title. It may produce good results to other type of texts, but right now, TextTeaser is meant to be used for news articles.
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
If you guys want to try out TextTeaser, you can check out the website (http://www.textteaser.com/). Or try the API via Mashape (https://www.mashape.com/mojojolo/textteaser).
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
I'm seeing good things about Python and NLTK. But back when I develop the core algo of TextTeaser (few months ago), I still don't know Python.

Right now, the TextTeaser website is coded using Python and Flask.

MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
Didn't manage to remove it.

I created a news reader for Philippine news (http://www.readborg.com/) using TextTeaser. The word Philippine appears most of the time and I decided to make it as a stop word. Forgot to remove it in the stop words.

MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
Thanks. Will check it out. :) Never tried it on Firefox.
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
Thanks!

But I did not get what you mean by "copying the link is borked in Firefox". What link are you talking about? :)

MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
Hahaha. It sucks. The algo is not meant for this kind of websites. Try out news articles! :)
MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
Hi! I will still retain the API in Mashape. That is for the developers that do not want the hassle to deploy it in their own servers. On the other hand, the open source code is for devs to check out the algo, hopefully improve and contribute to TextTeaser. If they want to use it and deploy it on their own, they are free to do so. :)

Think MongoHQ for MongoDB.

MojoJolo··on TextTeaser – An automatic summarization algorithm
Hi, I don't want to say it's well known. But it got in HN once in a while.
