I'm in your machine, Intel ME has been broken 100%.

MintelIE··on Transport makes up only 6% of the greenhouse gas emissions from food
Poorly written blog post. Author even skips analysis of their own opening graph.
MintelIE··on The Comeback of Fun in Visual Design
Busy work for people who really shouldn't be in tech is what UI design has become.

We had great UI, then tech branched out and we need to redo every UI continuously so the marketing people (who mostly also don't belong in tech) can boast of new and improved this and that. It's all so tiresome.

MintelIE··on Tell HN: Giving away my homebrew windmill
What kinds of grains have you milled with it? Is the mill included?
MintelIE··on China suppression of Uighurs meets U.N. definition of genocide, report says
Oh come on, China's a big powerful profitable country. And genocide has a special meaning, we can't just call any ethnic extermination a genocide, that'd be improper.

China will just keep on killing their Uighurs and companies will keep doing business there. There's perks, too, I bet CEOs can get organs if they need them, CHEAP, these days, if they bring manufacturing into China.

MintelIE··on Analogue radio in the UK given 10-year stay of execution
Digital radio just can't compete. Not only are the players generally large and battery hungry, everybody will be expected to buy a new receiver. It's a terrible shame and they might as well just switch to the Internet.
MintelIE··on Google-backed groups criticize Apple's new warnings on user tracking
Heh, yeah, it's a pain in the ass. But blame Google and other greedy un-trustworthy mega-corps who data mine.
MintelIE··on Ask HN: FB suggests friends after visiting same city, don't use FB phone. How?
Voice recognition, cameras always on and recognizing, could be a million things.
MintelIE··on In Search of King David’s Lost Empire
I don't agree. It seems that Israeli archaeology is focused on the premise of being there first, above all else. It doesn't seem that Christians are heavily involved in Israel's archaeological program either.
MintelIE··on In Search of King David’s Lost Empire
There doesn't seem to be much of anything actually substantiating King David's existence. Has this changed as of late? I know it's very important to modern-day Israeli historiography.
MintelIE··on Invasive, secretive “bossware” tracking workers
That's what the BIOS claims anyway...
MintelIE··on Invasive, secretive “bossware” tracking workers
Intel ME can be used to monitor employees without the OS ever becoming aware of anything. The only way to detect it would be to sniff the network.
MintelIE··on Boeing quietly pulls plug on the 747, closing era of jumbo jets
I would have thought they'd pull the plug on these new jets they had to fake safety compliance for and keep the older, working models that people will actually fly on.

I can't imagine anybody flying on a 737 Max even if the Boeing execs over at the FAA claim it's safe again.

MintelIE··on TikTok app to stop accessing user clipboards after being caught in the act
It's pretty simple, China doesn't allow western companies access to its markets reciprocally. This isn't controversial or esoteric information. It's a well known fact.
MintelIE··on Apple declined to implement 16 Web APIs in Safari due to privacy concerns
Nah people can just program in Java again.
MintelIE··on There’s no replacement for the thrill of browsing in a bookstore
Good bookstores are so rare, Powell's is about the only one worth visiting. Chain bookstores sell so much pulp, garbage, remaindered coffee table books about cats, etc.
MintelIE··on Shale pioneer Chesapeake Energy files for bankruptcy
It'll dead cat bounce a few times, the smart money buys it on an up day and sells before noon.
MintelIE··on Palm – The best small phone for minimalists, athletes, and kids
Do they reserve the right to change this at any time and indemnify themselves if something goes "wrong?"
MintelIE··on Was Acorn's RISC OS an under-appreciated pearl of OS design?
Yeah how's that work? I have an older 3B which I'm not using right now (4 4gb replaced it) and I might try it. Maybe I should blog it and put it up on HN.
MintelIE··on Software should be designed to last
Actually the way it usually works is a voting system, where if one component disagrees, and two agree, the majority vote is upheld.
MintelIE··on Software should be designed to last
Looked it up finally, I agree. It's why we have steering wheels instead of joysticks (except for the people who have a leg-related disability, they've been driving with joysticks for like 100 years).
MintelIE··on Software should be designed to last
I mean, like totally, I also very thoughtlessly forgot to call Go by its official name as well. And neglected the registered trademark and copyright symbols!
MintelIE··on The Great Pause Was an Economic Revolution
The author's a China shill, he prefers a Chinese order to what we have now. Read some of his articles, seems like a nasty character.
MintelIE··on Software should be designed to last
This is why I like long-established technologies. You can build most anything with typical POSIX utilities and time-worn libraries. And they will be there for you in 25 years. Who knows where Rust and Go and Node will be in a quarter century?
MintelIE··on Higher Ed: Enough Already
Farming foreigners doesn't work well when global travel is shut down. And Universities get so much more money from foreign students that they've become focused on bringing in these folks over the people from the states who started them for the benefit primarily of the state's residents.

This really ramped up in the mid to late 1990s when we were told that Universities should be run more like businesses.

MintelIE··on FreeDVDBoot – Hacking the Playstation 2 through its DVD player
I've been looking for one which can play SACD's and has the hardware emulation, they're actually a bit rare.
MintelIE··on How to Eat If You Want Better Sleep
Congee is the only thing I can think of.
MintelIE··on FreeDVDBoot – Hacking the Playstation 2 through its DVD player
This is great news. The PS2 was the last console I ever bought.
MintelIE··on Barcelona opera house reopens with performance to 2,292 plants
Seems like a weird gimmick but whatever keeps that government grand money flowing I guess...
MintelIE··on Palm – The best small phone for minimalists, athletes, and kids
Nobody has any idea, actually. Apple's EULAs give them the "right" to basically do whatever they like with your data. Does Apple actually disclose what they do with your data? And how have these policies changed over time?

Nobody knows what they're doing. It's why it's smarter to just keep your data away from companies.

MintelIE··on Lemmy, an open-source federated Reddit alternative, gets funding for development
People don't trust companies who want an email address. You get extra spam, the company or their successors and partners sell the email address, poorly secured computers and cloud nonsense almost ensure it'll be stolen, and nowadays if you have an incorrect opinion you could easily be doxxed, even by people inside of these big tech companies and startups.

You may not care about these issues, and you might have the correct opinions for now which don't irritate the tech overlords. But lots of people have learned the hard way that providing an email address is, at the very best, going to result in spam. At the worst? You could be physically assaulted, lose your job to an outrage mob...
