MeinBlutIstBlau··on The Frenchman who pioneered the modern mercenary industry
It's a shame for that price digitally. Physically it basically is priced to not be sold.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on The Frenchman who pioneered the modern mercenary industry
That's essentially what FARC was.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on USC pushed a $115k online degree – graduates got low salaries, huge debts
When people can make middle class livings again without being shut out of a job for lack of a college degree.

My previous job I worked at required a Bachelors in business of any kind. I got it because I worked at the company and basically beat out external candidates even though I didn't have a degree. Know what it paid?

$15/hr.

This is why people are duped into college degrees.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on When is the revolution in architecture coming?
My uncle is an architect and he's desperately trying to retire. It's so obvious that he was only in it for the money.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on It’s mostly a demand shock, not a supply shock, and it’s everywhere
Banks don't need to be. If half their customers declare bankruptcy or default on their mortgages, loans, etc; The bank won't have enough liquid assets to take on the subprime loans.

I know it sounds douchey but it's how to play the game. I just stopped. I lost complete interest in it at this point. My hobbies are more interesting.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on Love seems like a high priority
That's the game. An incentive structure will not fix that.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on It’s mostly a demand shock, not a supply shock, and it’s everywhere
until the bubble bursts and bankrupts shittons of people causing bank runoffs and failures...like in 1929 and 2008...
MeinBlutIstBlau··on Love seems like a high priority
Hinge has been my best one too. I hate the $20 price tag per month though. Basically extortion.

Tinder is a joke now tbh.

Bumble is like tinder but saves the guys time.

OkCupid is bloated and nobodies on it.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on Love seems like a high priority
I have to disagree on that model. That may work for dudes who aren't confident and can barely make a decent profile. But for guys who can, it would be extremely annoying that I have to pay to attempt to date someone I'm not really that interested in. Vice versa for the women as well. Now you're giving them another reason to not consider you because they have to pay money too.

The solution exists. It's natural selection. Unfortunately a lot of guys (especially in the midwest where I'm in) just do not understand how to game the system. I've been on enumerable dates. I am by all means a loser who peaked in high school then bounced back 9 years later and never even had a real relationship. So how was I successful?

Pictures. With friends, in public, signaling social intelligence, and showing hobbies that interest women. Most guys take just cringy pictures that scream "Not only am I a loser, but I'm so depressed I'm embarrassed to do things in front of other people." That is why no girls want to date them. Even the very low status ones.

Also, being confident and just being capable of holding a conversation is basically required.

Every architect I've met is like a jaded COBOL programmer at the government that refuses to leave their niche because change increases the chances of you getting fired.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on The benefits of staying off social media
Yes and no. Reddit is nothing what it once was. I do wholly recognize that reddit has typically had a younger audience. But it was not as "we need a socialist revolution, hyper-progressive moderatism, 1 letter top comment"-y as it used to be.

On a post about a guy who ran a company and sued himself, I couldn't find the TL;DR until like 15 comments in. All the preceding comments were like "genius!" or "It's perfectly legal so he's smart!"

It feels like Reddit is actively hostile toward actual contributors. They just want eyeballs and clicks. They could care less about the rest. It's just as bad as facebook nowadays.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on A recruiter lined me up an interview. With the employer that just fired me
That would've been funny then actually. I mean how irate would your manager who just got you fired now realizes his new employee is you again!

The fake mustache and joking about didn't make it seem serious at all. He should've just annihilated the interview.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on The benefits of staying off social media
I think it's because reddits user base has significantly decreased in age. I have been using it since late 2012, which even then I felt like a late adopter. The content on Reddit back then was like a more ”normie" version of HN and slashdot. It had good articles consistently with maybe 1 or 2 default meme subreddits. Then Reddit started cutting down content it didn't like and now it's just a leftwing cesspool of antisocial, antiwork rhetoric. It's not even worth posting or commenting because if your comment veers slightly off course, instant downvotes. Not to mention the monetizing of posts with stickers. It's just turned into out of touch people who glorify mental illness imo.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on A recruiter lined me up an interview. With the employer that just fired me
Thats exactly how I took it as well. This didn't seem funny but just cringey.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on What collective narcissism does to society
Lmfao I wasn't expecting that ending from the first one. It really knocks that press conference down a peg followed up by that.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on Pop _OS to use it own desktop environment, written in Rust
I'm gonna go down in the flames here but Unity was great. It was very stable for one thing. I never had an issue that I do with literally every single other DE that exists. XFCE is stable but customization is a time consuming affair. KDE is riddled with bugs. Cinnamon doesn't get enough support and thus has issues with various software (recently like not being able to run Factorio via steam or having bloated font in KeepassXC), and GNOME is like a happy medium between KDE and XFCE. Unity just worked. Out of the box like Windows and MacOS. It made me sad cannonical decided to drop it. It was the first real dedicated support to a DE that Linux decidedly needed.

Banks are institutions. Rich people are not banks and not creditors, the institution is.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on Don’t be spooky
I feel like most anxiety among people today is due to lack of confidence. Confidence isn't just about getting things done in time, it's also about willing to accept the outcome of an event and run with it. Without it bothering you.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on The growing complexity of modern software systems
I had to fix someones workflow where they had it kicking off other workflows endlessly stuck in a loop until someone changed something. They could take a week to follow up.

So no, I think only trained teammembers should be allowed to touch them. Even simple coding with workflows is difficult for non-programming oriented people.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on The growing complexity of modern software systems
The future is SharePoint workflows!
MeinBlutIstBlau··on Ask HN: What you up to? (Who doesn't want to be hired?)
Was just talking to a coworker and he was just like "The market can't be positive forever like this."

We're just one major panic selloff from things falling apart. I'm almost concerned whether I should pull my money out or put it in gld.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on Ask HN: What you up to? (Who doesn't want to be hired?)
I wouldn't say privileged, just normal seeing as people born with pre-existing conditions are the abnormality.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on Ask HN: What you up to? (Who doesn't want to be hired?)
I know it's super shitty to say this, but the true reality to life is...no they don't. It's a savage truth but genetically your produced a child with a major issue. To see their survival it's gonna cost something.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on Ask HN: What you up to? (Who doesn't want to be hired?)
Just hoping an economic downturn doesn't happen for another 4 or 5 years. Getting settled into a new job and I definitely do not want to be on the bad end of another 2008.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on Ask HN: What you up to? (Who doesn't want to be hired?)
Obamacare is utter garbage and costs ridiculous amounts of money. It impoverishes poor people far more than it helps. They should've provided a tax credit to people who pay in with it. Instead they just reduce AGI. What a joke. Honestly the best thing Trump did was make that no longer mandatory or face a penalty. It was a rammed through system democrats did just to pat themselves on the back. Quite literally one of the biggest slap in the faces to the working class in a long time.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on U.S. Recession Probabilities September 2021: 44%
Hoovervilles were not filled with rich people. In fact, in 2008, expensive cars barely saw a dent in sales cause the people that can afford them are heavily resistant to shocks of that caliber. Rich people are most definitely not creditors. Banks are. Rich people don't give out loans like banks. The rich don't get affected by poorer people who declare bankruptcy. The rich lose when poor people think money is greater than whatever BS commodity they're peddling that they can't recoup losses trying to sell it. That's why panics were more common back in the day. They're virtually a thing of the past nowt hat the Fed just prints money making everything think you gotta invest constantly or just lose money to inflation.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on U.S. Recession Probabilities September 2021: 44%
>If this pandemic does not teach nations, governments and people why it is so important to have short local and capable supply chains, I don't know what will.

I don't think a single billionaire or bureaucrat is gonna bat an eyelash. Inflation doesn't affect them. Deflation does. That's why they stripped every single mean from the lower classes being capable of doing so.

Or the Fed could just crank up interest rates and stop allowing any schmuck to get a loan to finance everything. I distinctly remember this happening before...twice...
