MeinBlutIstBlau··on Ask HN: What do you think about the no-code movement?
I had to fix a SharePoint workflow that indefinitely kicked off several workflows, and each workflow kicked off other workflows all being stuck in loops. A single workflow could have thousands of workflows kicking off...

Guess who they let make something that simple? Some generic business analyst who left and nobody else knew how to support it.

That second last word there is why developers will never go away.

They should be punished for not taking the social service avenues intended to make them not homeless.

And also make homelessness a crime. But conveniently they push you toward places that help with people on the verge of homelessness. All things combined with yours that these coastal places do not. If people are threatened with jail for being a vagrant, they'll eventually take the path of least resistance and get a job.

>AND most households now are two working adults.

This is the one aspect I feel like most people gloss over the most. Most people I graduated high school with are dual income households.

>You may not remember your great grandparents, but your parents do, and their influence influences you.

My city made a huge family tree database and I traced back all my anscestors to the 1500's of one branch and around the 1600's of another. It was fascinating to see I had lineage to the Polish Baltics, Northern and Southern Germany, England, and French Canadian as well.

What was a revelation to me was, I never heard of these people from my family. The only significant contribution to my life these people honestly made was the simple fact that they reproduced. I had no connection, identity, or care for who they were.

So in all, it truly made me realize, life has absolutely no purpose, and your contributions most likely won't even be permanently valuable. The only true sense of permanence that one can contribute to humanity is reproducing, and hoping your offspring will do so as well.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on A Death-Aware Career Plan
The greatest lie sold to Americans (as a US citizen) is that we all can be someone. Not only is this not true, but disingenuous to tell lower class people "you can be someone! you have the same opportunities as everyone else!" I'm not saying the opportunity doesn't exist everywhere, but it definitely is glamorized by the media as though it's a very tangible path. It's survivorship bias at the very least.

If you're born of the working class, chances are you will stay there unless you can figure out a way via labor or relationships to get out. More often than not, people don't/can't.

This is probably one thing the Chinese get right in terms of economics. Banning speculative and worthless commodities. It does nobody any good because we all know it's just a speculative market. The few who get out in time make a profit while the many that don't almost become destitute because of it. It doesn't promote tangible benefits to anyone. Nobody has a skill, nothing of value is transferred, simply money changing hands because someone else deems a worthless commodity is more valuable than it is.

I agree with this as well even as a Midwesterner. People balked at me when I told them I have gone by paying only $100/mo in food before(everything including out to eat). People don't realize that you can live without red meat. And chicken is a cheaper, healthier alternative.

They're really only keeping the interest and principle up to that point.

Long story short, pay your bill.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on Used car market gets even more bizarre
I had to pay $2k over MSRP to basically get a contract signed to wait for my Corolla not even built yet by end of month. Dealers don't even try to get you to stay for cars. They know someone else will walk in and buy it if you don't. It's that insane.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on US inflation jumps to 31-year high amid global supply chain crisis
Most of the US is not NYC, SF Chicago, and Seattle you know. I'd be shocked if household incomes near me in the Midwest were greater than $55k yet. There are tons of people who make less than $15/hr still.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on US inflation jumps to 31-year high amid global supply chain crisis
Average hourly wage near me is like $12/hr. That's basically 50k in a 2 adult household. If anyone is projecting it's you thinking everyone has a middle class job...

It's just freedom of choice. If I was rich, of course I'd buy Apple products. Simply because it's cheaper time/money wise for me to buy SaaS products and digital goods than it would be to pirate them. And Apple provides a seemless and secure means of doing so. For non-tech people, I tell them just to use Apple. For people who download and click on every damn link (like my mother...) I tell them only IpadOS. I've never had to deal with malware on it because my mother can't install it unless it's through the App store.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on US inflation jumps to 31-year high amid global supply chain crisis
I remember thinking $50k was an awesome salary when I first started working. Now I think "damn how do families survive off that kind of household income" after seeing essential goods and services cost roughly 1.5x what they were pre stimulus.

I know HN doesn't like it when you criticize the US left but I'm here with you. I didn't buy a single word out of the Biden administration pre-election. The "never Trump" people were so blinded by Trump that they didn't realize the other guy was a worse bought and paid for puppet than Hilary. Hilary at least had a functioning brain and could reign in the Dems. Biden doesn't even know it's Wednesday.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on US inflation jumps to 31-year high amid global supply chain crisis
Cereal I could buy for $3 and granola bars I could buy for $2 now cost $4.30 and $3.29 respectively. Detergent that was $5 is now $7.50. McDonald's cheeseburgers are $2 on their own. That is the largest jump of inflation I've ever experienced in such a short time.

Apple is fine if you do things there way. Unfortunately for those of us that know of better ways, it becomes a walled garden when we know there are better ones.

Would you believe me if I told you I was atheist? Removing religion allows you to look at life as a 0 sum game. Throw 99.99% of poor people in the situation of the only way to get rich is by being racist and it will spout on it's own. No need to even influence it.
MeinBlutIstBlau··on The Frenchman who pioneered the modern mercenary industry
But yet life has somehow brought me to these conclusions...

Just because it goes against modern cultural ways of thinking does not make it wrong. You're then asserting Western ideology is the superior way of life also implying all others are inferior. You judge people just like priests in the Spanish inquisition, but instead of Christianity, you use "Western Thought" as your religious motive to criticize other means of thinking. If racism did not garner any success for peoples, those people would not be successful. Yet here we are. I'm not advocating for it because I'm not a moron. But I am saying that it on a sociological level is beneficial at certain times. Pretending that your "holier than thou" mentality while not having lived in those times/areas is truly the epitome of Western liberalism. You like to be the white savior but forget people are animals at the end of the day.

Jesus...I mean even Anthony Bourdain had an episode in Haiti where they bought food for a bunch of people and it erupted into chaos. He even commented about the very thing I'm talking about with people being animals. You put scare resources and ways of life on the line, and people will revert back to their same old primitive ways. Why do you think the Western world has fantasies about things like "The Purge" or "Survivor?" Because they're impervious toward acting tribalistic? No it's because it's a basic fundamental part of who we are.

MeinBlutIstBlau··on USC pushed a $115k online degree – graduates got low salaries, huge debts
It is exactly that. Schools just want people to churn and nothing more. They don't care even if you graduate. The worst part is that everybody thinks education is the lifeblood of happy people so you can't tell these schools to screw without some insane liberal screaming you're trying to disenfranchise the poor.

The thing is, most kids go to school not knowing what they want to do. If that is the case, going to college is the absolute worst possible decision you could ever make. On top of that, you might even be going into a field you despise but can't back out now.

> Most people aren't willing to crawl underneath houses to hook up potentially-dangerous electric/gas lines. etc.

In a past life, I tried the general laborer gamit and it's impossible to get a job there too. Simply cause nobody hires you unless it's by word of mouth. So it's even worse than being shut out for not having a degree. So overall, it's no so much that people don't believe that they need a degree, it's the path of least resistance since you can at least get your foot in the door through a company once you pass the minimum qualifications. General labor stuff, good luck getting a job in a specialized field. I tried breaking into HVAC and I couldn't even get an unpaid apprenticeship cause people just won't do it.

> i highly value the destruction of things that i think are morally and ethically wrong.

This logic right here is the antithesis to true rationalism. You act as though your reason is more sound than someone elses simply because you deem your ways as the "ultimate" way. A Muslim in Pakistan may not consider your form of justice as the same as a Sikh in Suriname. You just jump to conclusions that any affront to your rationality is an attack on values of "goodness for mankind" as a whole. It's absolutely no different than a religion. So while you may not be a Muslim, you may find many Islamic teachings abhorrent. But to certain Muslims, they see you as an infidel or as the heathenous one who is striving from a path of moral goodness.

This is exactly why western liberalism is such an affront to the world over. It is filled with too many pompous white people who think that because they became successful in this system, they can extend their white savior complex to others by force. Simply through justification that they believe they hold the keys to true morality.

Western liberalism is no different than the Catholic Church in the middle ages. Constantly abusing the witchhunt of morality upon others. Incessantly purporting that nobody else holds the keys and that any questioning of the belief is heresy.
