Max_Horstmann··on Web apps with no back end code: the Jekyll-Angular-Firebase (JAF) stack
Avoid duplication across multiple pages, e.g. top navigation, footer etc. Note how "Notes" and "People" are separate pages. Angular is sufficient for single-page apps, so if you want to put all your logic on a single page you won't need Jekyll.
Max_Horstmann··on Show HN: Markov chains explained visually
Very cool. Would love to see this generalized to an interactive visualization of Markov Decision Processes (MDPs).

Very cool! I just built and deployed a real-time voting app in literally 10 minutes.

Max_Horstmann··on A New Codecademy
Love it!

I started creating a new course, how can I split the code across multiple files?

Max_Horstmann··on Dear Uber: you’re great but please add this feature
Regarding the last point: true, drivers would have to be required to dash-mount their smartphones in a similarly fashion. This setup would certainly be much safer than the current one, where they’re paying attention to a mounted GPS and their non-mounted smartphone running the Uber app.

Also – maybe at some point in the future, the Uber driver’s app can run directly on the car’s on-board computer system – now that would be nice, wouldn’t it?

Max_Horstmann··on Dear Uber: you’re great but please add this feature
My blog post was meant as a feature suggestion by a happy Uber customer, not in a condescending way at all. By no means I meant to imply that I have "thought more about this than Uber has".
Max_Horstmann··on Dear Uber: you’re great but please add this feature
Interesting! So basically they already have that feature (except for the gps integration), you just have to know about it.
Max_Horstmann··on Dear Uber: you’re great but please add this feature
try again?

Huh? Looks like HN front-page traffic killed my server. Rebooting...

Max_Horstmann··on Why Dart should learn JSON while it’s still young
Thanks for all the great feedback! I've updated the blog post with some of the key points from this discussion.
Max_Horstmann··on Why Dart should learn JSON while it’s still young
I certainly agree with the latter point if adding a default/out of the box JSON serialization does indeed add significant overhead, impacting all users including those which don’t require it. On the flipside, if a cost-effective solution can be found – e.g. by providing a default JSON serialization via class annotations – I feel that it should be part of Dart’s core and not up to individual developers to home-brew their own solution to a very common problem. In the particular case of DateTime, I’m pretty sure that adding a default JSON serialization now will increase interoperability between Dart-based services and sites in the future.

Ah, you're right. Thanks!
Max_Horstmann··on Angular Announces AngularDart
Beautiful. Thanks!
Max_Horstmann··on Angular Announces AngularDart
Maybe I'm missing something, but yes, I think so. Dart version 0.8.10.3_r29803.

pubspec.yaml:

name: test1 dependencies: browser: any angular: git: https://github.com/angular/angular.dart.git

test1.dart:

import 'package:angular/angular.dart'; main() => ngBootstrap();

dart2js launch => builds test1.dart.js, about 5MB, 142,749 loc.

Max_Horstmann··on Angular Announces AngularDart
I like both Angular and Dart, so that's good news.

One thing I noticed though: transpiling a .dart file with just the import statement for AngularDart (import 'package:angular/angular.dart') generates a non-minified 5MB .js file with almost 150 kloc. Every code change will create a new version of it, invalidating previously cached versions. :/

Glad it boots to desktop, not metro.
