MasterYoda··on Mom gets 6-month suspended sentence for letting 5-year-old walk to the pond
Cant american see how really fucked up usa have become in soo many ways? Or way have america become how it is today? They was a great country in many ways, but nowdays everything is just fucked up. The sad thing is that they dont seem to see it themself, the majority atleast. They just see them self as the bigest and greatest country in the world, so the dont look outside, and dont see how the rest of the world passed them long time ago in many ways and how much greater things is, like in Europe. And how people support trump is unbelievable.

He is just a trojan horse that have trown usa under the bus. His agenda is not make amerika great again, just make trump great/rich again and the goverment is just a joke. Usa is just crazy, like kids cant play alone outside without parents gets called police on and gets sentenced.

We see usa as crazy, but one american that lived here in Europe told, its much crazy than we think. Then its really bad. At least there is some americans that still is sane.

Sorry for the rant, but it is so crazy to see the severe self-harming behavior usa is doing to themself.

MasterYoda··on Hister – A private, full content search index that you control
This sounds very interesting. Wanted something similar, so going to check it out:)

One thing at first look, like a little feature request ;).

Personally I think it would be very nice if it was possible to index different sites to different search indexs. So you could separate different stuff, like job, different projects you have, and other stuff and then last everything else etc to there on search index db.

So it would be possible to have like "profiles" you could easy choose from. So in the addon, when you click on the hister icon on the toolbar there would be a list of profiles that you could choose where to index the site to. But also a setting to choose which domains and sites that always should index to one search index profils. And all sites that dont is added to a profile is added to the default index instead.

For me this would make it much more easy to find stuff and sort out what Im looking for (for me things get very "thing"/project based what I want to find), so having this..

1 - The "profiles" would become like an important filter. When you search you could easy mark one or more "profiles" which you would search from, and you remove alot of unwanted data automatically, specially when you index every site you visit by automatically.

2 - It would also make it easy if the db gets big over time to remove data that is less important later on and that you dont need to be index anymore.

3 - It would also make it easier to backup only the most important search index DB:s if the DB for the differnt search index:s where in different folders/files. I guess the "default index" that index all sites could easy get big, but there it would be alot of not important data. So would be nice to be able to easy just use a backup program and only backup the only important search databases, to save space.

Thanks

MasterYoda··on Chrome is looking to permanently drop MV2 extension
Are you really sure it’s not because of an add-on? If I remember correctly, Mozilla has said that about 95% of all pages that don’t work aren’t due to Firefox, but to an add-on. I use Firefox exclusively and don’t usually notice that pages don’t work. When that happens, as I said, it’s almost always an add-on that’s to blame. And I dont notice its buggy or laggy. So could be good check your addons next time.

Brick and minifigs are destroying their reputation and usa too how the police is handling this. The hole world is watching. If you missed it, you have to watch it, it is just insane.

MasterYoda··on Localsend: An open-source cross-platform alternative to AirDrop
LocalSend is the best app to transfer files from mobile to computer wireless that I have fund.

But it has one really big weakness/bug. When you transfer a file and it get interrupted, the half written file on the receiving end is not removed and you get an corrupted file. If you dont notice it, it could look like al files are transfered, but they are not. This is really bad, it is not how files should be "copied/transfered".

MasterYoda··on The big church move in Kiruna Sweden(40x40m, 672ton, distance 5km)[live slow-TV]
In Sweden's northernmost city, Kiruna, north of the Arctic Circle, the city must be relocated so that the mining company LKAB can continue mining iron ore because the mining undermines the existing town centre. [1]

¨SVT is broadcasting live coverage of the unique relocation of Kiruna Church from the old city centre to its new location five kilometres away. The major church relocation will take two days and is part of the extensive urban transformation. The iconic church is 40 metres wide, 35 metres high and weighs 672 tonnes. The work requires extreme precision and nothing can go wrong.¨

MasterYoda··on Show HN: Open source alternative to Perplexity Comet
If this is a privacy first browser, why wasn´t Firefox used when it is much better out of the box for this approach? All security and privacy focused webbrowser use Firefox. Like Tor Browser, Mullvad Browser, LibreWolf etc.

Also, I think it is super important we have different "webbrowser engines" and that are independent from big tech companies. If we only have chromium it would be really bad and hurt use consumer really bad and also stop inovation.

We really need to support independentCbrowsers like Firefox more.

Is there any simple FOSS alternative to tailscale that you can self-host?

The only thing I need is to simply connect to the home network and I dont want to need to open and forward ports etc in routers and firewalls for it to work, just something simple plug and play and is secure.

MasterYoda··on Sweden Investigates New Cable Break Under Baltic Sea
According to experts, there have been no cable breaks of this type for over a decade in the Baltic Sea and now suddenly there have been about 5 in just 1,5 year, at a time when ruzzia is conducting aggressive hybrid warfare and the last 2 ships discovered were also Chinese ships, a country that supports ruzzia and one ship had a ruzzian captain and they also seem to belong to the ruzzian shadow fleet.

Several of the ships have also gone to / from ruzzian ports and behaved strangely, for example zig zagged over the cable before, turned off the transponder, drifted around etc. which ships do not normally do.

Suddenly, cable breaks in the Baltic Sea are 26 times higher than in the rest of the world, it can not be dismissed as "accidents". These cables have not broken by chance, according to experts, but this is a deliberate act.

MasterYoda··on Two undersea cables in Baltic Sea disrupted
The last time it happened, the Russian ship had also been seen unnaturally going back and forth over the cable where the damage occurred. These damages do not happen by themselves. Considering the current international situation and the fact that it happened in a short time in several places unnaturally in a limited region, the Baltic Sea, you have to be very naive if you do not see this as probable sabotage.

MasterYoda··on Dot – A standalone open source app meant for easy use of local LLMs and RAG
I have collected so much information in text files on my computer that it has become unmanageable to find anything. Now with local AI solutions, I wondered if I could create a smart search engine that could provide answers to the information that exists on my personal data.

My question is.

1 - Even if there is so much data that I can no longer find stuff, how much text data is needed to train an LLM to work ok? Im not after an AI that could answer general question, only an AI that should be able to answer what I already know exist in the data.

2 - I understand that the more structured the data are, the better, but how important is it when training an LLM with structured data? Does it just figuring stuff out anyways in a good way mostly?

3 - Any recommendation where to start, how to run an LLM AI locally, train on your own data?

MasterYoda··on White House wants Moon to have its own time zone, Coordinated Lunar Time (CLT)
Fun fact!? TIL: UTC = Coordinated Universal Time but the abbreviation is not CUT that would be "logical", but UTC.

"It came about as a compromise between English and French speakers. - Coordinated Universal Time in English would normally be abbreviated CUT. - Temps Universel Coordonné in French would normally be abbreviated TUC.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the International Astronomical Union wished to minimize confusion and designated one single abbreviation for use in all languages.

UTC does not favor any particular language. In addition, the advantage of choosing UTC is that it is consistent with the abbreviation for Universal Time, UT"

So the reason it's called UTC is because the French and British couldn't agree, who could have guessed? :)

MasterYoda··on LocalSend: Open-source, cross-platform file sharing to nearby devices
Sounds great, will test it out directly an andoid app is released :)

Be able to transfer folder and not just files between devices wireless easy without internet would be amazing.

MasterYoda··on LocalSend: Open-source, cross-platform file sharing to nearby devices
Does anyone knows if it is possible to send folders (includings subfolders) or is just files?

Have been looking for a simple way to share files between pc and android wireless but not via internet, but seems it always is just file/s you could transfer, not folders with everything in them.

If LocalSend is the same and can only transfer selected file/s, have anyone any tips on a alternative app that do the same but also with folders?

MasterYoda··on Sweden Is a NATO Member
I have to correct my self, the war length was not between 1-10 years, it was between 1-12 when I checked again.

And about "Hundreds of years of wars." I counted for fun how many years in total Sweden and Danmark was in war with each other between 1207 when the first war started to 1814 when the last one ended, and it was around 54 years in total, over a period of 4 centuries. (54 years are dependent how you count, if a war started 1207 and ended 1208 it could have been both 1 and 2 years long, so I counted 1,5 for all wars. So at best it was 47 years or at worst 64 with a mean time of 3,6 year per war).

MasterYoda··on Sweden Is a NATO Member
"It is said to be the worst conflict in all of human history." No it is not, that is incorrect. I really dont know where you get that from. And I dont agree that there have been a VERY violent history. Yes there have been wars, and all war are voilent, but not anything special for that era. Between 1200-1800 there was 15 wars. From 1-10 years and the majority of them lasted just 1 or 2 years.

And fun facts: Of the 15 wars Denmark started 11 of them and Sweden won 11 of them. Sug på den danskjävlar ;) Sweden is a peaceful coutry and that contry that have lived longest in the world without war, over 200 years.

All nordic countries are very similar in so many ways and our language are almost the same so we can understand, "almost" each (except the Danish people (rest of the nordic countries understand what I mean :), maybe that why there have been conflicts ;) We, the nordic countries see ourself more like a family, like siblings that love each outer but also love to tease each other :D

MasterYoda··on Known Meta Sites
Why do they use so many different domains?
MasterYoda··on Why I use Firefox
I think this mpre could be a graphic driver problem. Test update to the latest from your pc manufacturer or your graphic card manufacturer (they could differ).
MasterYoda··on Why I use Firefox
If I record correctly, Mozilla has said that like 97% of all problems people has is with problems is due to extensions, not Firefox. '

When you have a site not working as expected, start Firefox in "Troubleshoot Mode" (alt-key then in the menu at the top Help > Troubleshot mode) that starts Firefox with addons turn off. If the site works, restart and turn of addons one by one to you see which one creates the problem.

MasterYoda··on Sweden (Not Switzerland)
For those who are not from Sweden (or from Switzerland) this is a real "problem" that happens all the time, that people confuse the countries. And it is something we at least in Sweden take with a big smile :D And according to the comments to the video, those from Switzerland seem to do the same thing :)

Here is an example when Swedish Spotify was listed in the US on the Nasdaq stock exchange and they used the Schweiz flag instead haha. The list goes on :)
