MasterYoda··on Firefox 74
The 74 release says "New: Facebook container..."

Do they mean the facebook container addon will come as standard, pre-installed with 74 or do they only mean they updated the addon? Little bit confused, feels a bit strange if they meant the later (under the new firefox release), but a at the same time when I updated 73 to 74 I could not see any traces of the "facebook container" in 74, no added addon. Is it meant fb container should should be like an pre-installed addon?

MasterYoda··on Electric motor design claims remarkable improvements

MasterYoda··on Firefox Lockbox – Take your passwords everywhere
Do you or someone else know if the Lockbox app will feature full password management (like add, delete, edit, generate strong random pw, folders etc) in the future or is it only meant to be a "password access" app?

MasterYoda··on As Facebook Raised a Privacy Wall, It Carved an Opening for Tech Giants
duckduckgo works really well. For some topics google is better, but for 95% ddg do the job as a day to day standard search engine. And those times you need google, it is very simple just to add !g bang to get the google search results. With ddg you get better privacy and dont end up in googles filter bubble. More should try it out.
MasterYoda··on Ask HN: Which abandoned proprietary software would you resurrect?
> We need a third viable option in the mobile space

Agree. It feels like apple respect users privacy which is great, but are you not interested in ios you are stuck with android and how google collects everything about its users, which feels really bad. I also think that "google play store" is rather bad. So it really needs competition here and a 3rd option.

What I really hope is that Microsoft (which have the muscles) should embrace android fully and build an "MS android app store" and an ecosystem around it for android so there could be an real option and competition to google and "google play store" on android.

WP died a lot because it did have to few apps. But because this should be android, developers shouldn't need to convert any apps, just simple upload the same app to "MS android app store" too, more or less. This way they could get a lot of apps in their app store and fast. To get developers to upload they could give better deals (ex lower %) and for users they could give an better user experience, focus on privacy like apple to differentiate them self from google and play store etc to get traction and popularity.

If MS did and got some traction, smartphone manufacturers would have an real option not to be forced to install play store and all googles apps just to be able to sell their phones, because there whould be an viable option for it users to download all android apps they want anyways. And competition is always good for consumers. At least for me, I would love to buy an android phone without google, with someone that respected and focused on privacy, and with an good app store out of the box.

MasterYoda··on Will Coke Dissolve a Nail? (2003)
I remember when my mom wanted to teach me not to drink soda when I was young, that it was bad. So to show it was bad for the tooth's she took one of my tooth I lost and put it in coca cola. And after a couple of weeks (don't remember the time exactly, but it was quite long time) it had dissolved to just some goo at the bottom of the glass :)

MasterYoda··on The French Number – Connect to a random French person and talk about anything
I would say the Swedish number was an big success and very cost effective pr campaign compared to normal advertising. And that is why France trying to do the exact same thing.

It's not easy to get peoples attention in the media noise, but the Swedish number was something different and new an got viral globally.

Over 190.000 got so interested they actually interacted and called, many millions have read about it. People called from 186 different countries, so the campaign spread to almost every country in the world. People talked combined for more than one year.

To get such attention globally and so many to interact is really worth a lot, you could not have paid for that in normal ways you do pr.

By the way… I guess the Swedish number also could have been inspired by one of the official swedish twitter accounts [1] that is curated by a new Swede every week [2]. It got alot of attention when released, so I think they got inspired on that idea. My guess tho.

MasterYoda··on Superformula
How is that possible?

In that case, it feels like a loophole there people could just skip the annual fees until an opertunity to sue someone occurs and then pay for all the years at ones.

Feels also strange a patent that have been withdrawn could be sold.

MasterYoda··on Defending Our Brand

MasterYoda··on PG Casts – Postgres Screencasts

MasterYoda··on Aldi's Barcode Strategy
Have the same experience when shopping in Germany. Im very supriced how ineffective there system is, with an non excistent area after the cashier. You have to trash all stuff down fast and then pack/repack afterwords somewere else and you get stressed.

The swedish system feels superior in my honest opinion. There is a big area afterword divided by a Y bar so 2 people can be served simultaneous. The 2 top Y boms are electrically controlled by the cashier so groceries goes to either left or right side.

https://www.ica.se/imagevaultfiles/id_53554/cf_6099/kassan.j...

So when one is finshed, that person can pack everything as he/she wants without hurry while the other persons groceries are served simultaneous by the cashier and that persons stuff goes to the other side.

Useally you could pack your stuff without hurry while the 2nd person is served. But if both side temporary is not finish because two big shopper both Y boms could be closed so 3 people could be served simultiously. Two could pack and the 3rds groceries could still be handeled by the cashier.

And not to forgett, everyone in sweden (almost) payes with card which speeds stuff up alot. You pay while the cashier scaning the groceries. When finished you just press "ok".

MasterYoda··on Mailhero – a more permanent temporary email
What it is...

Create a new uniqe mailhero email when you sign up to a new service etc. Mailhero will keep forward those emails to your real one until you choose not to.

So if that email ends up in a spamming list and you get starting to get alot of unwanted email from different spammers that could be hard to block you could just stop the forwarding.

So it works like a temporary email but is more permanent at the same time. And dont stop working after like 24h like many other temporary email services.

(Sorry for a shitty title)
