How did we get here? Is it because of scale? Going to market in minutes by using someone else's computers instead of building out your own, like co-location or dedicated servers, like back in the day.
thanks to the US restrictions on semiconductor industry (Chinese), Chinese engineers are being forced to innovate and find their own ways to overcome challenges like the old school engineers (What Silicon Valley used to be)
Is it worse than the dot-com bubble? I remember everyone and their mom who knew HTML could get hired, and there were way more companies that went IPO during the dot-com bubble, like theglobe.com.
AI is a bubble, but is it worse than the dot-com bubble or the real estate bubble in 2008?
The app is nearly completed, and Grok (preview in Copilot, currently free) wrote most of the CRUD pages with Entity Framework. Of course, it does get things wrong, and I use Claude 4 to fix the issues. (i'm a C# dev, I review code generated by Grok sometimes.)
AI is just another tool, use it or turn it off. it shouldn't matter much to a developer.
The dot com bubble saw crazy deals and valuations, followed by a crash.
some companies emerged from it and went on to be a giant company like Amazon. Let's hope this AI boom have some similar outcomes.
I don't agree with Peter Zeihan on many of his views, but I think his point about the collapse of the global order set up by America is what's happening.
Trump is dismantling the global order/rule of laws established by America after WWII and the Cold War. I find it ironic that Ian Bremmer said the Chinese care more about the rule of law (established by America) than Americans do in this interview
Agreements on paper doesn't mean anything to Trump.
Despite negotiating the USMCA with Canada and Mexico during his first term, Trump still threatened to impose tariffs on both countries.
What is the point of having an agreement like USMCA?
I don't understand what open source purism even is.
You pick a license for your software, and now you're mad because people are making money off of it. Then why even go with an open source license?
Do what Bill Gates did tell people to pay up for using Microsoft software, because Microsoft software isn't open source.
What are you crying about?
isn't that the same as delegated task to jr developer but you still have to check their work as sr?
its a great backup for all your important files.
money is not the only factor.
Intel also designs its own chips. Thus, it's hard for fabless players to buy in without worrying about their IPs being stolen. One of the strengths of TSMC is they only make chips. They don't do anything else. TSMC is highly trusted by its customers.
It worked out pretty well. Who knows how the software engineering landscape will change in 10 to 20 years?
I enjoyed Andrej Karpathy's talk about software in the era of AI.

I don't understand how Trump is allowing anything with headline like this.
I use GitHub Copilot. I recently did a vibe code hobby project for a command line tool that can display my computer's IP, hard drive, hard drive space, CPU, etc. GPT 4.1 did coding and Claude did the bug fixing.
The code it wrote worked, and I even asked it to create a PowerShell script to build the project for release
He bought Instagram for $1 billion. If I remember correctly, people thought he was crazy to pay that much. Then he bought WhatsApp.
Facebook might be on the decline, but both of those two apps are still going strong
