Makes a lot of sense to me!
My hypothesis is that drug use is a proxy for the hormones released with productive activities.

Agreed.
I want to see whether you realize that in the "Product-Market fit", the only thing you control is Product - you can manage/change/affect it as a builder.
However, you do not control the Market.
So, would it stand to logic that reducing the thing that you do not control - Market Risk (there's no one who cares about the product, we are going to build, at all) should be much higher priority than the Product Risk (we can't build the product)?
Are there some videos that walk a user through setting it up to using it?
A lot of content creators are seeing short term spikes in their shorts engagement due to this YouTube promotion strategy and cannibalizing their channel in the process, focusing on content that can match shorts vs. higher value but longer content.

IDK how upto date you are on this but in California this arbitrage opportunity is gone.
"thinly veiled threats about calling INS" is no longer a point of leverage, actually a quick way to lose any farm hands in California.
The current arbitrage opportunity in California are to use these people for EDD and WIC fraud but this is offtopic for this post and likely too political for HN.
Do you want to become a SME with deep expertise in a certain vertical of software or do you really want something vastly different?
For example, I realized I wanted independence and ability to make decisions and learn the direct impact of those decisions. So working for small businesses and larger, who were hiring me as software arch. and lead, was out of the question and doing pre-rev startups as a (co)founder, was the only way out.
I have the same exact problem here in California.
It's almost as if the cities want the homeless to remain homeless even if a section of the homeless are willing not to be
Why isn't this a popular method to "rehome" the homeless?
Instead of paying hundreds of $$ min a day for a hotel in SF/NYC, why not create farms in rural areas for the homeless to work and rehab at?
What's the source of requirements you're building to and who verifies those?
If you're creating requirements out of thin air, just so you can build something (eg: you want to learn something) - your current approach is absolutely ok.
Bingo. Remote working is a cost cutting measure. Only those companies that can afford to return to the office are doing so.
Next recession you'll see even more companies go remote as the recession forces cost cutting and rent/commute and their related insurance costs are cost centers that can be removed.

1. if these great UX and tech people do the product management themselves?
2. who does product and customer discovery?
3. Is it highly likely that the UX and tech people will know how to do product and customer discovery well - for example ask questions and carry out research the right way?
What if a solution to the homeless drug addiction problem is to give them animals to take care of and be responsible for?
If I am a cofounder at a startup where the market isn't even defined yet, my priorities are to help discover the market. Then build an MVP off the immediate needs of the beachead market.
If I am an employee at an established company where there's a well defined, effective market, customer team, I work with them to get usecase definitions, then I write BDD/TDD and have rest of my engineering team help implement.
Are you looking for specific help? In that case, do mention the context and environment you operate in
or its commercialized offer: Preset (Cloud)
Agree with everything you said including this one.
The point I was trying to make isn't that there won't be plenty of work for us. There always will be existing code to maintain and update.
The point I was trying to make is that development is rarely done in isolation, so you'll likely have to work as part of a larger team.
It's extremely likely that the majority of that larger team will be much younger than you and will be playing an exact copy of the JavaScript games you're playing now, but with ShinyNewLang.
So my question was - when that happens, would you, with the experience you will have by then, be mentally OK playing those games?
So that strongly aligns with your Consumer->Job->Product
Here, you mention: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30319105
> "The Lean Startup" book by Eric Ries is already 10-11 y/o, so it's not up-to-date and with lots of gaps.
Can you mention just a few of the gaps?
Interested to hear your thoughts.
Enough to change over from MD?
Agreed and I recently mentioned it elsewhere: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30318531
> For example the same person may want a luxury meal in one situation and a hotdog in another
Sure - but would it be wrong to say the same person may have different Personas depending on the context?
> In many places it's just hand-wavy
Do you feel there can/should be a better way to discover customers?
Have you looked into ASCIIDoc?
Have you looked into ASCIIDoc?
Agreed - but, if I were to break out startup risks into the following, which one is the highest?
- Market
- Product
- Channel
- Business model/unit economics

Can you mention just a few of the gaps?
> Instead you need to build a theory about your potential user's needs, and focus on shipping something first
What's the most effective way to discover:
- who these potential users are?
- what their needs are?
> while maintaining a semblance of what it is used for.
and how do you know how it will be used for and by who without actually talking to users and understanding if, why and how they will actually use it?
said differently, would you agree that market risk (there's no one who cares about the product at all) is higher than the product risk (we can't build the product)?
You attempt to test the hypothesis that the problem you're trying to solve resonates strongly with the currently unmet needs of a beachead market.
Since these customers will resonate strongly with you, they will not only pay you from day 1 but advocate/market/refer for you.
The hard work is in testing this hypothesis first instead of falling in love with the project ideas that you would like to work upon, and caving into building them because you would really like to work upon them.
Uhm - 30 years from today, with the experience that brings with it - would such an experienced engineer be mentally OK playing the games JavaScript devs in the JavaScript ecosystem have to currently play? (not to single out JavaScript but the point being there will always be a nascent, rapidly growing, chaotic community that becomes the most popular during a window of time)
Right - I am assuming you are comparing to vs. starting with a backend heavy prototype where it could get very expensive before exposing to customers?
> It's much faster and cheaper while still being effective
Effective as in effective in getting customer feedback as to whether the product makes sense to them?
but what if there were faster, cheaper and effective ways to get customer feedback than a UI prototype for a fresh startup just a few days old?
OK - is this issue then that the upcoming Chrome manifest changes break Chrome's compatibility with the standard or these were features that were never part of the standard to begin with and very specific to Chrome?
I hope they keep their opensource project alive and have it continue to be self hostable.
I use them to subscribe to newsletters so self hosting is very important (I am not sending emails out)
OP - if you're associated with simplelogin directly - what are the long term plans to support self hosting?
How well does the "WebExtensions API cross-browser technology" [0] work to build ONE code base and have to work well across Google Chrome, Firefox or even Safari?
