It wasn’t, but somenpopulqr assemblers that ran on the C64 used tokenized text and could fit quite a bit in ram.
MagerValp··on Finnish sauna heat exposure induces stronger immune cell than cytokine responses
110 is only on the top shelf, middle or lower is much cooler. For a dry sauna you really want to be well into the 100s to get a proper kick out of it.

You’ll be disappointed to learn that the deferral is 90 days from the release of the major OS version, not 90 days from when the configuration is set. There appears to be a bug in the delay logic in 15.7.3, but you really shouldn’t be running that — there are some important security fixes in 15.7.4.
MagerValp··on I couldn't submit a PR, so I got hired and fixed it myself
It’s gone for me, and there are a lot of frustrated support threads from other Europeans so I’m not alone.

I managed to find the option on the advanced search on ebay.ie, but I still get page after page of American items as the result…

MagerValp··on I couldn't submit a PR, so I got hired and fixed it myself
> In the same vein. Why is there no, I want this thing, but from a German seller.

eBay used to let you filter results by region, but apparently that ruined some kind of metric and the option is gone. When buying games or books or what have you I only want sellers in the EU. I don’t care that it’s available in the US or UK, shipping and duties are going to be 4x what the product is worth.

MagerValp··on From: Steve Jobs. "Great idea, thank you."
Steve is easily the most entertaining conference speaker I’ve had the pleasure to attend in person. He was a regular at MacSysAdmin for many years, and always in the Friday afternoon slot when you need a jolt of energy. Good times.
MagerValp··on We asked camera companies why their RAW formats are all different and confusing
> This is confusing.

We’ll, yes. You’re thinking of the classic RAW format that was just a plain array of RGB pixels without a header.

When talking about digital cameras RAW refers to a collection of vendor specific file formats for capturing raw sensor data, together with a bunch of metadata.

Yes all(?) modern solutions should let you transfer disks to a 1541, and it’s always fun to treat yourself to using real media. I believe the kff supports the ef3 usb transfer protocol, but you might want to double check before you buy.

That said, the U2+ really lives up to the name and really is the most featureful device - everying else is a compromise.

MagerValp··on Programming the C64 with Visual Studio Code
If you want to run demos, you need a device with (close to) 100% 1541 compatibility. The Ultimate II+ cartridge is your best bet, but it’s a bit pricey and availability is sometimes spotty. Pi1541 is a cheaper option, especially if you diy, but you’ll need a fast loader solution as well. KFF, sd2iec, and other cheap devices don’t offer hw level 1541 compatibility and can’t run demos.

And he does it in decimal, which breaks my brain.
MagerValp··on Our Android app is frozen in carbonite
> This is not something I’d want a text editor to do!

But this is exactly how it works in Sublime or VS Code or what have you on the desktop. You open a project folder and then you can click any file to edit, add new files, rename them, and so on.

It's been decades since I last used a text editor where you had to open each file individually (CygnusEd!).

MagerValp··on Is my vision that bad? No, it's just a bug in Apple's Calculator
There's https://openradar.appspot.com where you can at least share the bugs you file yourself.

I was also a bit surprised to read that, since Feedback Assistant.app should be the first thing that pops up if you do a spotlight search for "feedback". The app helps a bit with collecting a sysdiagnose report and makes it easy to add screenshots.
MagerValp··on macOS 15.0 supports Nested Virtualization on M3 chips
No, iPadOS doesn’t have virtualization support, only macOS does.
MagerValp··on DOS game “F-15 Strike Eagle II” reverse engineering/reconstruction war stories
But segmented memory isn’t a requirement, that technique works just as well with linear address space. You use a single 32-bit base pointer and then store 16-bit offsets for your data. We used that all the time on 68K and other architectures.

What’s the issue with blind vias? You had to enable them manually earlier, but as of 7 I think they’re always enabled.

Yeah, no thanks, I trust my adblocker to do that for me.

Me I just yolo the beta on my daily driver right after the wwdc keynote. If there are any issues I prefer to know straight away. Surprisingly I’ve never run into any major issues, only minor glitches.

Admittedly rather niche use case.

I honestly hope that they don’t. You’ll never cover all sports and you’ll never have global coverage, all while sucking up a ton of developer resources. Focus on search.

If they can calculate it at the cash register, they can most certainly calculate it when putting up price tags.

There are lots of options for parallel and serial transfers, check out this article for some good options:

MagerValp··on J-CIA64 – Modern spare part for Commodore 64, Commodore 128, SX-64
Sure, but add to that a modern storage solution (ideally a 1541Ultimate 2+), a lag free scaler (like the RetroTink 2X), and a modern power supply. The U64 comes with all of that built in.
MagerValp··on A new line drawing method for the cycle savvy
CCS64 is old and inaccurate. You want x64sc from VICE, preferably with a 50 Hz display mode and matching emulation speed for smooth scrolling.
MagerValp··on Amiga Forever
Absolutely, barring any environmental issues (moisture or heat), they will probably image just fine. But please note that Amiga formatted disks won’t be possible to read in a standard PC floppy drive. You’ll either need to use an Amiga with some kind of transfer software, or custom hardware for disk imaging.

Edit: I just noticed that they are discussing this very thing a little further down the thread, with lots of concrete options.

MagerValp··on Amiga Forever
But they had to do _something_, staying on the 68k wasn’t an option. It couldn’t compete with the Pentium and Motorola had effectively abandoned the series, focusing their efforts on the PowerPC.

Apple made a lot of bad decisions in the 90s, but I don’t see how the switch to PPC was one of them.
