MSKJ··on Ask HN: Are people optimistic about the future?
I am, pessimism is a choice and is fed by confirmation bias
MSKJ··on Ask HN: How much coding should beginners learn in the AI era?
Learn Assembly
MSKJ··on Tell HN: I never bought anything from clicking on a paid ad
What toothpaste do you buy? or shoes, or medicine? Your friends? I've bought Advil and generic Ibuprofen. Same with other known brands of general products.

Maybe not always or even mostly but when tired or getting the basics humans tend to go for what they recognize.

Especially noticeable when travelling and there are choices we are not used to seeing and we see the one brand we recognize.

Making the ads clickable is utilizing the real estate.

(scams that rely on you clicking for nefarious purposes are just scammers being scammers, there will always be scams)

MSKJ··on SpaceX Set to Overtake Amazon in Value as It Soars for Third Day
The volatility of the administration is a real concern, and it's motives are upsetting at times. Looking at the market in space, mining could be very lucrative and as costs keep coming down there should be more launches.

Lack of international competition here is actually working against them here

MSKJ··on SpaceX Set to Overtake Amazon in Value as It Soars for Third Day
"I was skeptical of Amazon early on too. But they had a couple of things going for them that SpaceX doesn't have: one was a huge potential market. People were already buying books, Amazon made it easy to do from your home, with next day delivery. The other was that Amazon had no competition in that space"

I mean these are both valid for SpaceX also, take out the execution and technological difficulty. There is a huge potential market in space, and they're is practically no competition

Kids these days can't even split a tab without using a calculator. Next they'll forget how to balance a checkbook

MSKJ··on Removing the modem and GPS from my 2024 RAV4 hybrid

MSKJ··on Cuba says it has run out of fuel, blames U.S. embargo
It's not about better or worse. I think it's important to understand the actual situation first so that we may argue the on the issue at hand. Embargo and blockade are at different levels of escalation. Now we can discuss that the embargo and advocate for de-escalation
MSKJ··on Ask HN: What do you still do manually in 2026 that should be automated?
I like taking a break personally; but a foot massager at the loo, I'd pay for that
MSKJ··on Stop trying to engineer your way out of listening to people
Precise writing is good, simple writing is better. Writing is a tool of communication, it is also an art. Art can be open to interpretation, documentation should not be open to interpretation. As a tool writing can be boring and repetitive to reduce alternate interpretations, this may result in being less precise with words and reinforcing a concept with simpler repetitive sentences

MSKJ··on NASA announces overhaul of Artemis program amid safety concerns, delays
If I were to bet, even with no information. I would wager that the private company is more capital efficient than the government ran one
MSKJ··on The Singularity will occur on a Tuesday
That is a very uncharitable take. Faith is often a source of meaning or purpose independent of intelligence. I would recommend "A Confession by Tolstoy" for a different perspective
MSKJ··on Eat Real Food
Sounds farfetched. Especially if restriction is on candy and sodas
MSKJ··on Ask HN: What are your predictions for 2026?
Still no high-speed rail in the US
MSKJ··on AWS CEO says replacing junior devs with AI is 'one of the dumbest ideas'
I would think you need Juniors to get Seniors. Or is there another way?
MSKJ··on Ask HN: Is SaaS really so bad?
Spotify is just a service. They provide content
MSKJ··on Reading on smartphone affects sigh generation, brain activity, and comprehension
Perhaps, I read a lot on my phone (usually web novels). I keep my eyes fixed on a spot on my screen, usually reading 2 lines, and scroll to bring the next lines into my line of sight. This is very comfortable for me as I don't have to move my eyes around. I also think this increases my reading efficiency, although I haven't really done an A/B test to verify this
