LtWorf··on Doing a Machine Learning PhD While Working in Japan
I agree with you. But I will point out you wrote it without needing to spam your own 90 minutes video.
LtWorf··on Doing a Machine Learning PhD While Working in Japan
If you can't detail why it's bad in any shorter form than a 90 minutes video, perhaps it's not that bad.
LtWorf··on You are no longer invited to dinner
I can feel equally socially energised meeting people outside and I don't have to spend hours cleaning up after!
LtWorf··on Kids turned low-traffic NPR Spotify comments into a secret group chat
My parents gave me no such talk; I now believe that at least some of the "teenage girls" i chatted with were in fact not girls at all.
LtWorf··on It's Time to Investigate the AI Labs
Computer vision is not AI? This is complete news to me.
LtWorf··on US Forces Exit Iraq
I had a coworker who is a refugee from iraq. He used to say "we had schools, roads and hospitals, now we have none of that but we have democracy".
LtWorf··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
There is a single moderator for most of the big italian subreddits and he bans anyone that says "genocide bad". He also bans anyone who points this out.

Pretty sure that's his day job.

LtWorf··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
The mod for r/linux was famous for banning anyone who didn't take his side in the kde/gnome systemd/systemv or whatever (I don't remember).

They got rid of him just because the owner of the subreddit was someone else who wasn't really using reddit any more but still could kick that mod.

LtWorf··on 37,500 border drawings: a map of the world as people remember it
It just means "my beloved"/"my dear".
LtWorf··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
Isn't japan the country where you can kidnap and torture and kill a woman and not go to jail?

Yeah i think they have low crime because of their interesting definitions of what a crime is.

LtWorf··on On caring for user data: NeoVim caused Vim undo files to be deleted
Can you point me to any such commercial text editor?

Changing definitions of words to win imaginary arguments. Ok you won.
LtWorf··on Rusty thoughts on "Parse, don't validate"
I'm the author of typedload. For json-type of data that is loaded in dictionaries you can do A LOT of validation at runtime automatically if you define the types.

Where is the comparison with USA link? You are so full of links and yet miss that one? How odd…

I don't know you, this is not a social. If we were friends and you did that I'd unfriend you and be done.

The alternative being having human moderators, which socials don't want to have because it costs money.

LtWorf··on Meta Blocks President Lula's Facebook Page, Campaign Ads 2 Weeks from Election
Socials should do no scoring whatsoever. Once you score you are editorialising which means you should have a director that is liable for everything published.

If you don't want that, no editorialising, let people see just the people they follow or what their friends share and that is it.

Can't have it both ways.

Facebook has to follow the law like everyone else… I know they don't like to but…
LtWorf··on Meta Blocks President Lula's Facebook Page, Campaign Ads 2 Weeks from Election
Facebook marked a video where a famous Italian author was saying what he was going to vote and why as "fake news". Of course he's opposing the current right wing pro-USA government.

edit: yes please, as usual, keep downvoting factual information.

LtWorf··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
Now compare those with any USA town and you won't even see a pixel on the chart.

The rape definition in Sweden is extremely broad. If you had read your own link you'd know https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_in_Sweden#Unreliable_data...

But if you happen to call a blocking syscall everything breaks.
LtWorf··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
Anyway what he really really glossed over is that "Arabic" (or the Arabic languages as would be more correct) speakers will also speak Swedish.

At the same time it is very unlikely that the English speaker will learn Swedish, so English speakers are more of a threat to Swedish than Arabic speakers.

LtWorf··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
Yeah the elon musk robots, sure.
LtWorf··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
Lol. In Sweden almost no bus driver or helper for old people was born in Sweden, let alone builders.
LtWorf··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
What happened to the swedes? I'm in sweden right now and there's no zombie apocalypse or anything weird going on…

> Japan is an island

So is Sicily… and yet it's quite diverse…

LtWorf··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
"Arabic" is hundreds of different languages.

It's like saying "anglosaxon" and grouping english, german, swedish, danish, norwegian as one single language.
