Liwink··on Startup founders urge U.S. government not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
open weight models are not free models. Inference providers should share a meaningful percentage of revenue with the model companies. In fact, open weight model seems a solid business model - they can leverage existing cloud infra for distribution without spending massive CAPEX.
Liwink··on ChatGPT terms disallow its use in providing legal and medical advice to others
It appears they just want to avoid responsibility for potential misuse in these areas.

But at the same time, IIRC, several major AI providers had publicly reported their AI assisting patients in diagnosing rare diseases.

Liwink··on A simple habit that saves my evenings
I'd recommend one more step - after closing the laptop, bring a notebook and a pen with you.

People often get new ideas or unblocked somehow after stopping the work. If this happens, don't open the laptop again. Write it down.

Liwink··on Instant Checkout and the Agentic Commerce Protocol
What percentage of e-commerce will be taken by OpenAI by the end of 2026?

It appears to me that they are already well-positioned to become the next generation of Amazon with their current user base -

* AWS -> OpenAI APIs

* Amazon -> ChatGPT Shopping

There is tutorial page https://www.gmcmap.com/tutorial.asp

Liwink··on Exploit allows for takeover of fleets of Unitree robots
I cannot image what if Tesla has a similar vulnerability issue, and someone took over all of its vehicles.. Or maybe someone is already able to do that, and just waiting.
Liwink··on Improved Gemini 2.5 Flash and Flash-Lite
Gemini 2.5 Flash is an impressive model for its price. However, I don't understand why Gemini 2.0 Flash is still popular.

From OpenRouter last week:

* xAI: Grok Code Fast 1: 1.15T

* Anthropic: Claude Sonnet 4: 586B

* Google: Gemini 2.5 Flash: 325B

* Sonoma Sky Alpha: 227B

* Google: Gemini 2.0 Flash: 187B

* DeepSeek: DeepSeek V3.1 (free): 180B

* xAI: Grok 4 Fast (free): 158B

* OpenAI: GPT-4.1 Mini: 157B

* DeepSeek: DeepSeek V3 0324: 142B

Liwink··on Everything that's wrong with Google Search in one image
I remember a company saying its most effective ads were search ads for their own name.. like what midjourney does

Liwink··on Always Invite Anna
I'm usually the Anna in the group, and always appreciate being remembered, even though it's not easy for me to say no.
Liwink··on U.S. Emissions Rise 4.2%, China's Fall 2.7%
> But don't forget China still emit 16B compared to US who emit 6B tons of CO2

China has 1.4 billion people, while U.S. has 340 million people.

Liwink··on US Intel
The investment from Nvidia, instead of the government, would give Intel a better chance to survive.
Liwink··on PlasticList – Plastic Levels in Foods
Can anyone help test the plastic level of Coke? I wonder whether plastic or sugar would kill me first.
Liwink··on Qwen3: Think deeper, act faster
The biggest announcement of LlamaCon week!
Liwink··on US Administration announces 34% tariffs on China, 20% on EU
> What amazes me is the timing: the midterms will hit while the bottom is still chugging along.

I think Trump is getting unpopular actions out of the way quickly, perhaps planning to announce an income tax reduction later to save the midterm elections.

Liwink··on OpenAI releasing new open model in coming months, seeks community feedback
What's the major use case of open source models? The stable diffusion community seems pretty active. A lot of fine tuning to generate NSFW. What about LLM?
Liwink··on Using GRPO to Beat o1, o3-mini and R1 at "Temporal Clue"
Can you please share the training cost?
Liwink··on Why OpenAI's $157B valuation misreads AI's future (Oct 2024)
> OpenAI is selling shovels.

I think the author argues that OpenAI is not the only one selling shovels, and their shovels won't be always better that others'.

Liwink··on Making the dislike count private across YouTube
It makes me curious why HN does not support "dislike". Will "dislike" make HN more informative?
Liwink··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours?

Liwink··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
Learning database systems now. Andy Pavlo made two of his great classes public. Class materials and videos are online. Thomas Neumann's papers are also really good.
