LiamPa··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2018)
True but until you open your API and start treating your average user fairly I and many others will be staying well clear.
LiamPa··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2018)
> Servicing our market makers is top priority

I fixed it for you.

LiamPa··on The Servers Are Burning
I was expecting it to finish with ‘now we write tests’ but it doesn’t...
LiamPa··on Ask HN: Python or general programming horror stories?
I am intrigued, which library? Flask? Django? Surely not as the code is great and very easy to debug.
LiamPa··on Whiteboards used after Gatwick flight information screens fail
And Gare du Nord
LiamPa··on Ask HN: What's your hobby?
+1 not sure if it was my uni but almost everyone I climbed with was an Engineer of some sort.
LiamPa··on Ask HN: Recommendations of good cybercrime novels?
+1 has to be the most ‘hackernews’ book I have read / still reading (started yesterday)
LiamPa··on What the f*** is the edge?
And chrome.
LiamPa··on Ask HN: What infrastructure would you use to host an open, free JSON-based API?
Django / Zappa

Which is basically AWS lambda / gateway with minimal setup and extremely cheap.

LiamPa··on Ask HN: At work, do you you use Git for your Excel workbooks?
The issue we find is that if a user is using excel (a lot) there is a very slim chance that they know what git is and/or how to use it correctly.
LiamPa··on Ask HN: What do you do with cash savings in your business bank account?
The OP said 30 days not years.
LiamPa··on Ask HN: What do you do with cash savings in your business bank account?
Your advising the opposite of hedging? Let’s say US economy turns, you have now multiplied your risk.
LiamPa··on Solar and wind are coming. And the power sector isn’t ready
Current UK status:

http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/

Is there a US equivalent?

LiamPa··on What We Learned from Analyzing 100M Bugs
Ironic that I have a huge ‘download report’ banner across the middle of the screen (iPad Pro)
LiamPa··on Launch HN: The Lobby (YC W18) – 1-on-1 calls with company insiders to get hired
Interesting idea but I left the site once I got to the pricing page as it goes super thin and impossible to read on my iPad.
LiamPa··on Earliest images of the moon were better than people realised
> After their use, the images were locked away from the public, as at the time they would have revealed the superior technology of the USA’s spy satellite cameras, which the orbiters cameras were designed from. Instead the images from that time were grainy and low resolution, made to be so by NASA.

Brilliant!

It states they used 70mm film which according to google is used for motion pictures, I assume a custom camera?

LiamPa··on Rare wooden escalators lead down into a staggeringly monotonous tiled tunnel
Didn’t know that any still existed, here’s why they don’t in the UK:

LiamPa··on Ask HN: How to launch an algo trading side project?
+1 Read the zipline source, I learnt a lot in how to structure trading code / solving common problems.
LiamPa··on Search for Lost Hammer Led to Largest Cache of Roman Treasure Ever Found in UK
For anyone who has watched the detectorists on the BBC:

> The metal detector he’d received as a retirement gift was meant to find a hammer lost on the farmland.

LiamPa··on Ask HN: .io vs .ai for a startup?
Agreed good advice that came from this was to host anything important (API) on www.
LiamPa··on The London Time Machine
Can’t see Newgate prison, ashamed of it even back then?
LiamPa··on Under River, Outside Time: The Woolwich Foot Tunnel Anomaly
Would explain why the clock is always wrong in those damn lifts.
LiamPa··on Show HN: Real Time UV Index API for Apps/Bots/AI developers
Noticed that, is this a real API?
LiamPa··on Ask HN: What do I do if a maintainer is ignoring my pull request?
Split it up, someone made a PR like this to one of my libraries once and even looking at it scared me.
LiamPa··on Project Betfair, part 3: backtesting an HFT market-making strategy for Betfair
Interesting approach do you have experience in HFT from outside Betfair?

My backtester, paper trader and live framework are one and the same, all in python, any reason for scala?

LiamPa··on Ask HN: What tech stack is in demand, and why?
Slightly out of date now but this gives you a good idea of what companies want (no why though)

LiamPa··on Ask HN: How did you significantly reduce your AWS cost?
Serverless / Zappa, hosting my API’s for 10x decrease in monthly costs.

https://github.com/Miserlou/Zappa

LiamPa··on Every Google Cloud Platform product described in 4 words or less
You should have a look into serverless:

https://serverless.com/

I use the nano instances on AWS as well as they are very cheap to keep running. If you are new to AWS you can also run a micro for free for a year.
