Levitating··on Actively exploited sandbox RCE in all Chromium versions
That you can do complicated things with it does not make it complicated.
Levitating··on Actively exploited sandbox RCE in all Chromium versions
> We need simpler protocols and formats

But we do! It doesn't get much simpler than HTML/CSS/JS. It's just abused to make apps instead of web documents.

European passports are NFC tags and you can prove your identity using your phone.

You can still find honest companies providing correctly priced services. Purelymail.com handles my email. There are many VPS hostars, cloud storage providers etc with honest pricing.
Levitating··on Nobody Told Me People Still Code New Games for a 1982 Computer
I love the spectrum. They are quite repairable and even upgradable machines. I was literally able to buy a new ram chip at my local electronics store.
Levitating··on EPA says power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws
Title is taken from the reuters coverage[1], but I used the link to the original epa.gov press release.

Levitating··on The Sloppification of Peptides
I wonder if AI companies already have a good way of filtering out these generated sites, or if the internet has just become worthless for training.
Levitating··on Better Batteries
It's also not a trivial problem. Rust supports a few dozen more platforms than CPython.[1][2]

Levitating··on Better Batteries
> it seems that the reason for Rust not having an API to get a stream of random bytes from the OS

This is already in nightly[1]. I don't see what "getting money in peoples pockets" has to do with its stabilization.

Levitating··on Shattered skeleton is first confirmed death from trebuchet
"...uncovered the graves of nine skeletons dated to the early 1300s. Five, including Skeleton 150, dated to the 1300s."

That seems like a contradiction.

Levitating··on Amazon will train on Twitch streamers' content by default, unless they opt out
How much good data can you get out of twitch?

That's not my experience
Levitating··on Where did the old web go? We followed 657,607 links to find out
> The name was registered in 2009 because it was the shortest URL possible: a zero, a dot, two letters. Seventeen years later the zero means something else.

Did the zero ever mean anything? It's still a 3 character domain regardless if the first character is a zero.

Levitating··on Controversial creators are benefiting from monetization programs run by Meta
But we don't all use Facebook, Facebook found its niche of tech-illiterate people to abuse.

The population is a wide demographic and it would be nice if companies didn't try to exploit parts of it.

Levitating··on Controversial creators are benefiting from monetization programs run by Meta
Meta could help the situation, for instance by providing fact-checking tools and banning rage-bait creators.

Instead they have removed those tools and are paying these creators. So it's not just consumers to blame here.

Levitating··on Controversial creators are benefiting from monetization programs run by Meta
A lot of channels got bought by private equity. YouTube is saturated with similar content so creators have to resort to clickbait to keep up. AI has allowed creators to increase their efficiency writing scripts.

I don't know what you believe Google changed about YouTube, but I believe it has just made itself worse.

Often the actual token would just hold a link to a jpeg. With all the consequences of link rot.
Levitating··on London Underground begins scanning passengers' faces
I don't see how this is any different from how traffic cameras are used. Hot take, but as long as the systems aren't abused by law enforcement I don't see the big deal.
Levitating··on ZX Spectrum System Tour: Sound
Depending on your country you might be able to buy a ZX spectrum for a reasonable price. Their through-hole circuit boards are very repairable and there's a some videos on YouTube explaining how to properly troubleshoot them.

I've personally had a lot of fun repairing one I bought on catawiki.

Levitating··on A GTK4 SSH-askpass in Zig
GTK4 memory usage is ludicrous
Levitating··on Winding Down Artichoke Ruby
I did some digging into Artichokes sourcecode to get inspiration for making a Ruby like language in Rust. But I found the codebase a bit complicated and ended up taking more inspiration from mruby instead. It's deeply segmented into different crates like many Rust projects are.
Levitating··on Destroying a Community with a Gigantic "Clogged Vacuum Cleaner"
In this case it has nothing to do with AI

Levitating··on Destroying a Community with a Gigantic "Clogged Vacuum Cleaner"
This reminds of a video[1] from More Perfect Union about another (the same?) crypto mining facility in Texas.

Levitating··on Over 150k Flights: Airlines Just Flew the Busiest Day in Recorded History
In Europe you can take the train. Although for whatever reason it's priced similarly to airplane tickets but obviously has far longer travel times.

A lot if not most airplane traffic is holiday related, and only a handful of rich people actually get to enjoy it. There's no need for it.

Steam has had good built-in streaming for a long time.

Levitating··on Xiaomi-Robotics-1
Because you see a robot do one thing, doesn't mean it can do other things. We've had good robot demos for decades.

For all we know they could've spent 5 years and 10 million dollars on getting this robot to fold laundry. That doesn't mean it'll be able to mop the floor better than a Roomba in a decade.
