LeoPanthera··on I tricked Claude into leaking your deepest, darkest secrets
I always have history disabled mostly because I don't want Claude judging me for re-asking questions based on information I learned during the first pass but now realize should have been in the initial query.
LeoPanthera··on Jurassic Park computers in excruciating detail
The Macs won't old school at the time. They were high-end workstations for anyone who didn't need Unix and wanted a GUI that worked.
LeoPanthera··on TS-2026-009: Insecure argument handling in Tailscale SSH permitted root access
That is what it's supposed to do, though. It's not a secret.
LeoPanthera··on StubHub, CEO hit with ‘deceptive practices’ class action over mass scalping
The UK is passing a law which makes it illegal to resell event tickets for greater than the face value.
LeoPanthera··on Claude is just Mr. Meeseeks
It's funny how I hear both "Claude uses too many tokens" and "Claude won't talk for long enough" complaints.
LeoPanthera··on Telegram's t.me domain has been suspended
This has nothing to do with ICANN. Status flags are set by the registry.
LeoPanthera··on Count Binface
Clacton is a town in the UK. The election was triggered by Nigel Farage, the right-wing leader of the Reform UK party, resigning his parliamentary seat in early July amid a parliamentary investigation into an allegedly undeclared £5 million financial gift.

Instead of waiting out the inquiry, Farage decided to immediately run for his own vacant seat again, framing the sudden election as a "people versus the establishment" referendum to clear his name. All Britain's major political parties, including the governing Labour Party and the opposition Conservatives, are boycotting the race entirely.

Farage’s primary opponent is a man wearing a trash can on his head who goes by the name "Count Binface", a "beloved" staple of modern British democracy who regularly runs against prime ministers and prominent politicians as a satirical protest vote, armed with policies like capping the price of croissants and mandating functioning Wi-Fi on trains.

LeoPanthera··on I used to love Claude, but the latest models are slowly ruining it
But this refers only to ChatGPT 4o, which was famous for being obsequious.
LeoPanthera··on I used to love Claude, but the latest models are slowly ruining it
This is a serious suggestion, not a joke: Have you tried being nice to the model?

There are so many criticisms here that I just don't see myself.

If the models have been trained on human responses, then it's plausible that they will prefer to become less helpful to requests which are blunt or even rude, because that's what humans do too.

LeoPanthera··on I Built a Telegram Client for Pi
Is it really necessary to accuse people of being "haters"?
LeoPanthera··on CarPlay Is Additive
The 1977 Oldsmobile Toronado is generally considered to be the first car to have microprocessor control.

But Ford's EEC was built around Toshiba's TLCS-12, the world's first 12-bit microprocessor, developed specifically for engine control, and might have been in cars produced prior to 77, but documentation is spotty.

So do you only drive cars built prior to the late 70s? Because sacrificing the enormous safety improvements just for a bizarre feeling of moral superiority is a really awful hill to die on. And literal death is a real possibility

Or do you not drive and never planned to buy any kind of car and thus your claim is meaningless?

LeoPanthera··on Wireless LAN SD
Indeed, you are thinking of the eye-fi. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye-Fi
LeoPanthera··on OpenRA
RA2 is still available on Steam, and despite its age runs with only minimal issues on Windows 11. It works on Linux too, but it works a lot better if you add the cnc-ddraw DLL and change the launch options to:

  WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n,b" %command%
LeoPanthera··on Long Wave radio era set to end with switch-off
"Longwave" has no universally agreed defintion, but good news, amateur radio already has usage of 135.7 kHz to 137.8 kHz.

Building equipment that works on frequencies this low, and avoiding natural interference, can be extremely difficult.

LeoPanthera··on A human postmortem of the 1996 AOL outage
I used to listen to Art Bell on the Coast to Coast RealAudio stream - from the UK!

I think it was before "RealVideo" so it was still just "RealAudio" and not "RealPlayer". Or something like that.

LeoPanthera··on Long Wave radio era set to end with switch-off
"Longwave", usually written without a space, is an informal and not well-defined term for radio frequencies lower than the AM broadcast band, which in Europe is known as "medium wave".

In the USA there have never been commercial longwave stations, though various WWV time signals are broadcast in that band.

LeoPanthera··on 22-year-old Mozart's handwritten notebook unearthed in 'major discovery'
"It is a sobering thought that when Mozart was my age, he had been dead for two years."

Tom Lehrer.

LeoPanthera··on Memory crisis is getting so bad that even retro RAM prices are going to the Moon
The PS3 is a retro console.
LeoPanthera··on Nearly half of LG smart TV apps contain residential proxy SDKs
If you do this, connect it to the internet at least once, because most smart TVs ship with missing features that aren't activated until you do a firmware update.
LeoPanthera··on Walt Disney Company is the most successful at monetizing human nostalgia [audio]
I enjoy Disney parks (though I would not call myself a "Disney adult") and I found the best way, if you can afford a longer stay, is to spend no more than half a day in the park, and visit each park twice, or three times for your favorites. (Personally, I was done with "Hollywood Studios" after just half a day.)

Of course in the current political situation I would never return to Florida, and Disneyland is much smaller.

LeoPanthera··on The founder of Craigslist has given away half a billion dollars
It's a modern usage.

LeoPanthera··on GLM-5.2: The Most Powerful Open Model yet and the Brutal Reality of Running It
I've been using "the one genuinely adjective noun" for years as a weird English tic, and it bothers me that it's become an LLM tell.
LeoPanthera··on Ubiquiti: Enterprise NAS, Built on ZFS
Synology also don't (didn't?) offer a ZFS product, which is why I bought a QNAP. Restriction-free and ZFS storage. Apparently you can also completely replace the OS if you want, although I haven't tried it.
LeoPanthera··on Ubiquiti: Enterprise NAS, Built on ZFS
I don't believe this. They've been around since 2003, and the Unifi line started in 2010. If they were going to enshittify it would have happened by now. Cynicism is not always warranted.
LeoPanthera··on The founder of Craigslist has given away half a billion dollars
Craigslist is the pinnacle of web sites. True brutalist web design.
LeoPanthera··on GrapheneOS has been ported to Android 17
That was a hilariously tone-deaf incident, but it's hardly comparable. Google pushed ads. Apple gave you a free album.
LeoPanthera··on TIL: You can make HTTP requests without curl using Bash /dev/TCP
I use neverssl.com for this purpose because it is designed to resist caching.
LeoPanthera··on Twenty One Zero-Days in FFmpeg
You should rethink this kind of casual racism.
LeoPanthera··on You can power on a Mac remotely
Have you considered who is clicking on your videos? Is the audience that clicks on "You won't believe!" different to "You can do this"?

Or do you only care about eyeballs, and not who is behind the eyeballs?

LeoPanthera··on You can power on a Mac remotely
This is an aside, but I really hate clickbait culture. You can find it anywhere, but the YouTube video embedded in that page is a really good example.

The title is: "Apple FINALLY lets you do this!"

The thumbnail shows someone plugging in (or unplugging) the power cable from a Mac Mini.

Neither is relevant to the video. Neither tells you what it's about. I'm sure this kind of clickbait works, because otherwise it wouldn't exist, but I am never going to click on that kind of slop. Never.
