Scanning my own personal feed, it seems like everyone is successful and happy. It makes me depressed even though I know the feed is biased.

My opinions don't represent my employers.
Always on the lookout for good teaching docs for my junior devs
Hackernews makes me feel old at 35.

Those who make peaceful protests impossible make violence inevitable.

After reading your replies to myself and other users in this thread,You clearly have an issue with him, by the rather extreme lengths you've gone to discredit him in this thread.
I don't want to be part of your crusade against an ally of diversity.
Also I personally have a hard time believing a company with Sheryl Sandberg as it's COO would lie about their conclusions. She is a strong positive force for increasing women in tech.
The Verge is using the WSJ as the source.

I find myself leaning towards McArdle's article here. https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-04-25/no-the-ha...
A pretty good discussion here, that gave me food for thought. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14227241
If this tech evolves, I'm really worried about brain harvesting or trafficking, we already have increasingly desperate people turning to organ trafficking, and human smuggling is tied to organ harvesting.

However when it comes to pleasure reading, I usually like to buy a physical copy.
Why don't we just cut out the extremely expensive middlemen, universities and professors ?
Why don't we just allow Pearson to bypass universities altogether and award degrees for cheaper than the 40,000 current universities cost.
I think this is a bad idea. Fake news is already a loaded term combined with the media bubble it will just make things exponentially worse.
We need to deal with the media bubble bias first, to restore faith in real news.
There is increasing unrest and resentment towards the very rich including silicon valley ceos in america.
From Eric directly being involved in the clinton campaign. https://qz.com/823922/eric-schmidt-played-a-crucial-role-in-... http://www.googletransparencyproject.org/articles/googles-su...
And now google donating money to Trump. http://dailycaller.com/2017/04/21/google-donated-285000-to-t...
Plus we know the amount of pressure PRISM and the other intelligence agencies can put on Silicon Valley companies.

I also bet that other countries do the exact same thing, probably even more likely considering the "marble project" source code is leaked.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4427452/CIA-launches... Also it looks like a hunt for the internal leaker has begun.
Whatever the source, We do still have to deal with the content of the leaks.
The content is what we need to take a very close look at begin to increase and harden our security. Especially senior developers and software architects.
At least the Wall Street Journal is still doing investigative journalism, who knows what a nightmare situation Theranos would have caused it they didn't get caught.
I hope someone there is doing some investigation on Uber and Lyft as well.
It's also far more important for science to keep its hands clean because fair or not its public relations is important. In our high technological society, we cannot allow people to lose faith in the scientific process, It would be a global disaster.

I don't anymore, I've added links in the bottom. Even if the tech is half as good as I wish it was. It means less people can do the work of tons of people with computer aid. Essentially I don't think it will lead to lots of people getting work like the last industrialization did in terms of factories.

It seems like they are refocusing their efforts on their core, rather than being stretched.
Especially in the light of the all the warmongering in the mainstream papers. https://theintercept.com/2017/04/07/the-spoils-of-war-trump-...
Yet everyone I know on the right and left is anti-war. The alt-right of all people even had a huge protest in DC.
Its beginning to feel like Iraq WMD's again. Sad times.
