Layke1123··on Brave Browser Hardening
Anyone ever consider the possibility that crypto isn't needed in a society that is based on trust, and if we all trusted each other, then none of this is necessary? It is almost as if the powers that be want crypto because they don't trust anyone, and therefore perpetuates the problem of needless abstraction?

So this statement then admits that there are differences in how people are treated and what they are able to do based on religion? No, race? Again, missing the mark?

Ahh, MONEY! Which is as made up as it gets. This person is worth more than that person because this computer says so and it has to be TRUE, or else society wouldn't work. We are about to find out real quick how the world works again, and I am warning everyone here, if you think you are safe because of money, the world is going to humble you.

Exactly. It's not like it's literal magic. It's just knowledge and resources, which should be getting more abundant and cheap, not scarce and expensive.

Why can I not reply to the person below me?

Regardless, anyone could do this type of fabrication in their garage given removing the legal and technical barriers that keep EUV technology behind lock and key.

I thought competition is what keeps markets working efficiently. Without competition, what's the motivation to actually share innovation when it is not needed to maximize profits, as innovation is much more costly than maintaining the status quo?

Your question shows a lack of understanding. Many billionaires do not need to work. What keeps them showing up to "jobs"?

Sheer...human...curiosity. When everyone can afford a comfortable lifestyle, what else do you think humanity will do? Drink themselves to death? If that were true, we would already be long gone.
Layke1123··on RED is suing Nikon for infringing on its video compression patents
I cannot think of a better way to actually impede humanity's progress than to put up artificial barriers to techniques developed to help spur innovation and growth. The patent system is mind numbingly stupid as it absolutely STIFLES innovation.

Lol, I love that you were honest.

It doesn't mean you should get praised for the other effects your actions had, but I do appreciate the honesty. Hopefully you now understand why people don't like others urinating in spaces where they possibly have to also occupy.

Isn't the US "founded" on the principle of diversity of thought? It's contradictory no?

Layke1123··on Digital technology demands a new political philosophy
When you claim something like "real democracy" leads to better freedoms and the expansion of liberty, how can someone come along and claim "real socialism" leads to better freedoms and the expansion of liberty, and one is immediately rejected while the other is expected to just be accepted as true?
Layke1123··on A cyberwar is already happening in Ukraine, Microsoft analysts say
People don't realize how massive cyberspace is. It dwarfs RL by orders of magnitude. People spend over 3 hours a day in that space and are barely maybe aware of it.
Layke1123··on GameShell: A game to learn or teach the Unix shell
Does no one think this is a problem? When even software engineers can't keep up with all these things, and your average citizen is completely clueless about how even the most basic of computer things work, do we not realize we are like the boiling frog in the pot?
Layke1123··on GameShell: A game to learn or teach the Unix shell
Whatever Docker is doing that your browser/OS/hardware isn't.

But that's the point. I have no idea what any of this stuff is actually doing. I'm just crossing my fingers that what I run isn't detrimental to my system. There's no actual understanding behind any of it anymore.

Layke1123··on GameShell: A game to learn or teach the Unix shell
Insert bwrap in lieu of docker and its the same thing. What the hell is bwrap?
Layke1123··on GameShell: A game to learn or teach the Unix shell
If you dont like running foreign code on your machine, you can run docker and then run foreign code on your machine.

Did anyone else catch this in the article? Doesn't it seem like this makes it even more likely to get infected? No one understands Docker in entirety let alone this random game. It seems like all this stuff should just be automatically done behind the scenes and yet it's not.

Let's not forget a huge problem in our modern world, and that is multiple, sovereign nation states willing to do anything and everything to get leverage against one another, including trying to infiltrate and hack every single piece of hardware and software produced. Gone are the days when human fail safes could catch each other. Now, any computer can be hacked so no amount of them will prevent attacks unlike a line of humans who have to vet the information.

I think it's more likely that it's run by the Venture Capitalists and they help curate and drive the narrative more than not in an attempt to hopefully capture a small portion of people who can actually do software well and believe their stories.
Layke1123··on Congress urged to ease immigration for foreign science talent
Why? That used to be the US's exact policy. It's even carved into the Statue of Liberty.

Hardware hacks happen all the time, as well as social hacking. There is nothing that can prevent state actors from getting access to corporate networks.
