LastNevadan··on Rare “noctilucent” clouds appear over the SF Bay Area
I grew up in the United States. I have a vivid memory of learning the words for clouds (e.g., cumulus, stratus, cirrus, etc) at the age of six in the first grade. We didn't need to able to spell them, but we had to be able to identify them by matching pictures of the clouds with the words.
LastNevadan··on Shadowbans are bad for discourse, and here’s why
Probably, people with mental health issues that spam fora with nonsense fifteen hours a day are judgement-proof. They have no assets to attach that would justify the effort of legal action against them.
LastNevadan··on Ask HN: How do I thrive in an AI dominated future?
It really is terrible at humor. I tried asking ChatGPT some dumb joke questions like "if I melt dry ice, can I swim without getting wet?" Any human being would know that this isn't a serious question and is intended as a joke. But ChatGPT gave me a short lecture on the actual chemistry of dry ice and then clarified how dangerous it would be to swim in or with dry ice. The joke went way over its head.

I asked some other similar questions. ChatGPT has zero sense of humor.

LastNevadan··on Tell HN: HP printers force you into agreement
I've owned two Brother laser printers in the past 15 years. I've run into this issue with the newer one: it will just refuse to print at a certain point. However, I was able to find a work-around (probably the same one you found) by typing some magic code I got from a YouTube video into the front panel and then it worked for awhile until I did replace the toner cartridge.

Was quite frustrating but nowhere near as bad of some of the HP stories like this that I read on HN.
