LarsKrimi··on Sanders and Newsom become adversaries over push to tax California billionaires
What's wrong with that?

Why are US politicians and billionaires meddling in European politics?

LarsKrimi··on Carney constructs a mega anti-Trump trade alliance
Exciting stuff, let's see what comes of it.

As someone from Europe I think Carney has been quite impressive in the big picture

LarsKrimi··on Quitting .NET after 22 years
And ASP.Net at that..

It's a shame that Microsoft sucks at naming projects. ASP.Net is very different in many ways from .Net, of course same runtime infrastructure but the way you do things, the stupid async differences, etc

LarsKrimi··on Tiny C Compiler
Are you sure you are geoblocked, and that's it's just not the updated SSH host key change from 2022?

Actual, geoblocks can be confounding of course. After brexit I've personally thought of blocking UK phone numbers from calling me though... So could just as well be intentional

LarsKrimi··on "The Stanford scam proves America is becoming a nation of grifters"
"We"?

Sorry if my comment went over your head.

The comment was about the style of articles that were in vogue in the mid 10's.

A good sample here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewjosuweit/2017/10/22/5-ind...

If I need to condense it further the connection I see is that weird people feel a need to see new market trends and uses of the system as coordinated efforts of malice.

Instead it's probably just that young people aren't thriving. Better information lets people know more about systems of assistance.

Some defective humans really dislike any assistance programs and invent phantoms and weird statistics. Tale as old as time

LarsKrimi··on "The Stanford scam proves America is becoming a nation of grifters"
"Something has shifted about American attitudes towards rules, especially among members of Gen Z."

Great to hear some things never change. Now it's finally Gen Z destroying the world and no longer millennials.

LarsKrimi··on U.S. asks American citizens to 'leave Iran now'
What would targeting NYC help Iran? Aren't there more interesting targets they could go for which would take advantage of the inflamed political situation in the US?

I think it's much more likely that they would strike back at a regional ally if anything. Keeping some of their cards hidden and not risking a unifying shock to the US populace

LarsKrimi··on Zig Libc
There are many useful functions too. Like "memfrob" and "strfry". I hope the Zig libc makes those available too

Just joking of course. Those are sadly only in glibc.. :)

Which AI provider was used?
LarsKrimi··on Are you sure you want to leave YouTube?
Probably because YouTube allows purchases of various stuff. A phishing link could likely easily be made to look exactly like YouTube

This is a common pattern to see today. Lots of examples that maintain the same CTA design (don't leave us. Don't waste your money on scammers, waste them on us please)

LarsKrimi··on We will ban you and ridicule you in public if you waste our time on crap reports
Ehh nothx. I like my slop human powered
LarsKrimi··on We will ban you and ridicule you in public if you waste our time on crap reports
That is a cultural thing, and one of the first things you learn to handle when working tightly together with Indians as an outsider.

I can't remember all the techniques but a simple trick is to ask them to repeat their understanding back to you before they start working on a thing.

But I don't think it's connected to sending "malicious" reports. That seems rather to be to pad their resume and online presence while studying to get an edge in hiring.

LarsKrimi··on Anthropic's original take home assignment open sourced
I liked the core challenge. Finding the balance of ALU and VALU, but I think that the problem with the load bandwidth could lead to problems

Like optimizing for people who assume the start indices always will be zero. I am close to 100% sure that's required to get below 2096 total loads but it's just not fun

If it however had some kind of dynamic vector lane rotate that could have been way more interesting

LarsKrimi··on Linux kernel framework for PCIe device emulation, in userspace
Is this stuff written by an AI?

The documentation still refers to PCIEM_EVENT_MMIO_READ but it's never referenced in the code on the main branch

I'll admit that I asked for a simple compilable example illustrating something simple like the read events because it looks like it's just reading from the shared memory, and maybe generating an event for any read or write access with the PCIEM_EVENT_MMIO_WRITE event type

LarsKrimi··on Linux kernel framework for PCIe device emulation, in userspace
Hi, thanks. That's almost it. The remaining problem is just how to tie it together (where do I put the handle_mmio_read pointer or which event should it be handled in?)

PCIEM_EVENT_MMIO_READ is defined but not used anywhere in the codebase

LarsKrimi··on Linux kernel framework for PCIe device emulation, in userspace
Latching on to this thread, but can you make as simple as possible of an example?

Something like just a single BAR with a register that printfs whatever is written

LarsKrimi··on Trump to impose tariffs on European nations over Greenland
What does the Chinese civil War have to do with this?

China (PRC) wants to be one with China (RoC)

LarsKrimi··on Judge orders Anna's Archive to delete scraped data from WorldCat
> Judge Michael Watson in US District Court for the Southern District of Ohio

A US judge.. Oh no. Prepare for tarriffs and invasion Anna!

It sounds like it's just metadata they scraped anyway?

LarsKrimi··on Germany joins European partners with troop deployment to Greenland
> Denmark's position is that they should own it just because

No that is the American position

LarsKrimi··on Why Is Greenland Part of the Kingdom of Denmark? A Short History
> but few perpetrated these crimes so recently

Oh my sweet summer child

LarsKrimi··on Why Is Greenland Part of the Kingdom of Denmark? A Short History
Because there's absolutely no infrastructure where noone lives. For good reason

The mineral dream is a dream for a reason. Americans have tried. The Chinese have tried. The Danes have tried. None have made a profit, and none have kept up operations

But I'm sure the US will be able to do it this time. Afterall the US has someone with an acute sense of realism in absolute power

LarsKrimi··on Why Is Greenland Part of the Kingdom of Denmark? A Short History
- The only way minerals there will be mined profitably is by someone strongarming and displacing any local population, disregarding all environmental protection rules and destroying large swathes of land

- They either mine the minerals responsibly or ask their king to take over the country so they can mine irresponsibly

- Bribery to vote for independence and subsequent joining with the US is the only legal way that Greenland will become part of the US. It would have to be accepted by the Kingdom of Denmark

- Depends on whether it is done legally or with force. If done with force NATO would go under pretty fast. If done with bribery NATO is probably done anyway just way further out.

LarsKrimi··on How Katie Herzog drank her way to sobriety
People who are not addicted must feel joy somehow. Seasoned alcoholics are not unaware that the effects are messing with their pleasure centres

To me it sounds less like substitution and more of a recalibration to normal levels. Where the brain learns that when it wants to have fun alcohol isn't the first thing it reaches out for

LarsKrimi··on How Katie Herzog drank her way to sobriety
Very interesting. She basically described my situation 100%. Sounds like I'll be talking to my doc ASAP

The interesting part is that abstinence might work for some but without removing the pleasure association it is doomed for some that are guaranteed to relapse

LarsKrimi··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
You think that he's afraid of going to prison only? Oh noo, house arrest in Mar-A-Lago for x amount of years due to "bad health".

I think the man is severely and uncurably addicted. Got his ultimate high and will do anything and throw anyone or anything under the bus to maintain that.

Why should he leave? Who would make him leave?

LarsKrimi··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
You really believe he will be out in three years?

There's only one way he'll be out, and voting will not be part of that

LarsKrimi··on Toro: Deploy Applications as Unikernels
Just to save people from wasting their time reading this drivel:

` If this approach seems fringe, things get much further afield with language-specific unikernels like MirageOS that deeply embed a particular language runtime. On the one hand, allowing implementation only in a type-safe language allows for some of the acute reliability problems of unikernels to be circumvented. On the other hand, hope everything you need is in OCaml! `

ToroKernel is written in freepascal.

All of the text before and after is completely irrelevant

LarsKrimi··on Delete LinkedIn – you'll have zero fucking regrets (2021)
You are optimizing for people (or bots) who use LinkedIn in that case

The only reason I would use it for any kind of similar purpose would be to check network overlap. A profile picture would only signal that it is an old picture or from someone looking for a job (or a bot)
