LandoCalrissian··on America's two largest school districts impose AI moratoriums
If you are saying that AI would somehow be contributing to a socialist goal for Mamdani and you use Marx to advance that statement, kind of everything?
LandoCalrissian··on America's two largest school districts impose AI moratoriums
The point you are arguing here is wildly antithetical to the entire concept of dialectical materialism. A child's analysis of Marx.
LandoCalrissian··on Saving money on Google Photos with Immich: Your own personal photo storage
I switched earlier this year and it has been really good. Exporting and uploading your google photos is a little time consuming because of the size, but other than that pretty pain free.

After using it for a while I actually prefer it to google photos and think it does quite a few things better. I would recommend switching for sure.

LandoCalrissian··on Coding expertise is going to collapse from AI reliance
The snake eating it's own tail for llm software development has really been met with a shoulder shrug whenever it gets brought up. At best you might have a small cohort of developers that don't cook their brains with AI and their reward for that appears to be having to review terrible AI code written by people who have cooked their brains.

Completely unsustainable.

LandoCalrissian··on AI boosted homework scores, then exam scores dropped: study
"You don’t need to be able to memorize something for an exam to show mastery of a topic."

Yes you do???

LandoCalrissian··on Grok Build is open source
Ironic username.
LandoCalrissian··on The 'absolute magic' of Morse code that still connects people globally
Do CW contesting and occasional POTA, lots of fun. Ham radio is a pretty cool hobby that I think many tech inclined people would enjoy. There are tons of digital modes too, and with the symbol rate limit being removed lots of fun to be had.
LandoCalrissian··on Apple sues OpenAI, accuses ex-employees of stealing trade secrets
Only one has Actual Money™ and quite a lot of it.
LandoCalrissian··on No LLM Code in Dependencies
Ah yes, open source will be better with less people who can actually write code.
LandoCalrissian··on Anthropic Accuses Alibaba of ‘Illicitly’ Accessing AI Models
I don't think anyone in the AI game can whine about stealing.
LandoCalrissian··on Calvin and Hobbes and the price of integrity
That is a wonderful speech, I have never read it before. Thank you for sharing.
LandoCalrissian··on Calvin and Hobbes and the price of integrity
Everything comes to an end friend, not everything needs to go on forever. Maybe it is forgotten, left behind, but that's not really important. What's important is it ended on his terms and some of us had the privilege to experience it.

There will still be people that find Calvin for the first time, and they will get the same privilege. I'm glad he did it his way and I think most of his new fans will as well.

LandoCalrissian··on Reviving Teletext for Ham Radio
I didn't see it got dropped, that is very unfortunate but also understandable. It's been a few years since I last messed around with it. If I recall, what was in the kernel at the time had a few issues and hadn't been touched in a very long time. It was a huge hassle to get working, there wasn't much up to date documentation.

I made back images and kept a lot of the documentation in case I needed to go back since it was tricky to find the first time.

However once you do get it working it's very satisfying to see a connection through a VHF radio appear in the native linux networking stack. Opens doors to a lot of goofy and fun ideas.

LandoCalrissian··on Can the stockmarket swallow Anthropic, SpaceX and OpenAI?
Sure, if Elon gets to raid your retirement account it can.
LandoCalrissian··on KDE at 30
I agree it's really impressive, it brings a lot of things together into a cohesive package and experience. I'm a huge evangelist, I think it's the best desktop experience.
LandoCalrissian··on KDE at 30
Love KDE, I think plasma is really great. KDE connect is a program I think people sleep on, I use it all the time.
LandoCalrissian··on SpaceX launches Starship v3 rocket
12 crashes in 5 years to get 1/5th the capacity of a Saturn V. Good job Elon!
LandoCalrissian··on Was my $48K GPU server worth it?
'If you google “plugging a PC into multiple outlets”, you get lots of warnings that if you even consider such a setup you will instantly burst into flames. So I hired a professional PC builder make sure it was safe.'

Not really sure how that makes it safe but OK!

LandoCalrissian··on VS Code inserting 'Co-Authored-by Copilot' into commits regardless of usage

LandoCalrissian··on Mozilla Thunderbolt
Thunderbird was literally asking for donations just a few days ago?
LandoCalrissian··on EFF Logs Out of X
Good for them, correct thing to do. EFF is still one of the few true blues.
LandoCalrissian··on Hackers (1995) Animated Experience
Easily my biggest guilty pleasure movie, warts and all, I still love it.
LandoCalrissian··on Tesla ending Models S and X production
Probably not a great strategy to piss off every blue voter in the country and then try to setup a business in cities.
LandoCalrissian··on If you put Apple icons in reverse it looks like someone getting good at design
I tend to like skeuomorphic design, however, if you design an entire interface that way, it will look dated, for better or worse.

The one in the middle is probably what I would gravitate towards myself. The right three really wear their date on their sleeve.

LandoCalrissian··on Arduino published updated terms and conditions: no longer an open commons
Qualcomm blew this up in record time, impressive stuff.
LandoCalrissian··on Steve Wozniak: Life to me was never about accomplishment, but about happiness
He's earnest and legitimately excited about it and you can pick up on that. It's always fun to talk to people like that regardless of their interest.
LandoCalrissian··on ChatGPT agent: bridging research and action
In the context of a budget that's really funny too. If you make a 18 trillion dollar error just once, no big deal, just one error right?
LandoCalrissian··on How we’re responding to The NYT’s data demands in order to protect user privacy
Trying to actively circumvent the intention of a judges order is a pretty bad idea.
LandoCalrissian··on Kill your Feeds – Stop letting algorithms dictate what you think
Say what you will about Bluesky, but having your follower feed just be people you follow is extremely refreshing.
LandoCalrissian··on They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45 (1955)
President is unilaterally shutting down federal agencies. If this goes on there really isn't a constitution anymore, not in practice anyway.
