Lacerda69··on Why you can't Kickstart a conference
Have been using FB ads for events for the last 12 years and they never made a significant difference.. Might be related to the audience/topic but IMO facebook ads became useless for events in the recent years.
Lacerda69··on Why you can't Kickstart a conference
Can also be the techno crowd - just pop an ectasy pill and drink water all night. One more reason why techno clubs often have high entry fees.
Lacerda69··on Keycloak – Open-source identity and access management interview
use cases that require _everything_ "on-premise" are often government/military, big healthcare, or just huge enterprises that want to control everything (and can afford a team that only runs their auth service).

I mentioned Ory above but you get both options - either as a managed service or run on your own infra

Lacerda69··on Keycloak – Open-source identity and access management interview
I dont quite get why you think it would be a security concern?

The alterntive to using a tried and tested solution is to build it yourself - but are you really confident you will do a better job than professionals in the field?

Lacerda69··on Keycloak – Open-source identity and access management interview
Have you had a look at Ory (Kratos)? Its a "cloud-native"/modern alternative to Keycloak: https://github.com/ory/kratos
Lacerda69··on Most tech content is bullshit (2020)
"helpful content that provides a deeper understanding or solves a tricky problem" is a lot if work to create, even if you know the solution or can solve the problem easily.

I can empathize with people who dont spend their limited free time on explaining others how to solve problems out of the goodwill of their heart and I am eternally grateful for the tiny minority that does this.

Lacerda69··on Imaginary problems are the root of bad software
150.000$ for a podcast app with zazzle shop and google ads integration?

That sounds really high to me. I personally found 15k way too high already; guess it depends on the details/market/circumstances

Lacerda69··on European Union votes to bring back replaceable phone batteries
A million times yes. My phone practically became useless overnight since banking apps refuse to open on my Android version. No option to update to a newer version, no option to access important accounts without some phone app.
Lacerda69··on Where did the long tail go? (2022)
It was never easy to make a living from music. I dont have data but I think more people than ever make a living from creative endeavours like music.
Lacerda69··on [dead]
Google will sell ads to whoever buys - does not surprise me that there are some shady / borderline ads in between.

Lacerda69··on In the future we will all be prostitutes
So everything will stay the same basically?
Lacerda69··on NYC skyscrapers sit vacant
FWIW i am FAR less likely to interrupt the person sitting next to me and yank them out of their current flow into a different topic. I'd rather send them a chat message that they can answer out of bounds when it does not interrupt their flow.

>which otherwise in face-to-face meetings can be skipped since we can chit-chat outside of meetings.

So in terms of time there is little difference? I find myself to spend much more time chitchatting in person - which is nice but also not the job.

Lacerda69··on Supreme Court rules Andy Warhol’s Prince art is copyright infringement
Thanks for sharing this, will definitely give it look.

I get that my position here is considered extreme, but then again the nuanced one is much harder to express in a couple of sentences.

A lifetime of being denied access to science or art on the grounds of copyright has made me cynical.

To me it's just a classist defense barrier - keep the lower class from getting education and art to keep the class system intact. Copyright is just one method that has been corrupted to this purpose.

Lacerda69··on Supreme Court rules Andy Warhol’s Prince art is copyright infringement
We can take down revenge porn or other private material without copyright of important works of science and art.
Lacerda69··on Supreme Court rules Andy Warhol’s Prince art is copyright infringement
I get your point i think.

But copyright as it exists now does not protect or benefit the "little guy" or indie artists.

There have been many many instances of big record labels or game producers ripping of small artists and I have yet to see 1 (one) instance of a small artist going against $bigcorp and winning.

Copyright is broken; it only protects those already moneyed and in power and savagely attacks small artists, destroys the basis of creativity (sampling) and blocks access to vital research.

It must be abolished.

Lacerda69··on Supreme Court rules Andy Warhol’s Prince art is copyright infringement
Sorry i dont get the point. Wutang chose to not release the album publicly and it will most likely never be public.

copyright does not change that in any way, it would still be private without copyright - what am i missing?

Lacerda69··on Supreme Court rules Andy Warhol’s Prince art is copyright infringement
How does it encourage public access? The artist is dead for 70 years when it becomes public domain

>a lot of work would never be available to most people

This is the situation right now because of copyright.I don't see why it would be worse without

Lacerda69··on Supreme Court rules Andy Warhol’s Prince art is copyright infringement
Copyright is backwards, does not help artists and is holding back humanity as a whole.

Imagine the renaissance of art, science and culture we would have if we abolished copyright tomorrow. We have the technology. Please get rid of it.

What redeeming quality does copyright have in light of the intellectual damage and huge amount of unnessecary bureaucracy it causes?

Lacerda69··on Turn ideas into music with MusicLM
Really? This sounds like horrible muzak to me and there is TONS of awesome actually good royalty free music out there. Maybe it will get there in some time, but right now I would not use this.
Lacerda69··on Supertokens: Open-Source Alternative to Auth0 / Firebase Auth / AWS Cognito
What features of supertokens are not open source and part of that "enterprise" directory?
Lacerda69··on Supertokens: Open-Source Alternative to Auth0 / Firebase Auth / AWS Cognito
There is no comparison to Ory there AFAICT.
Lacerda69··on What auth do you use? Why?
For anything serious password + WebAuthn MFA with Ory Kratos. It lets me choose any method really, can be self-hosted or used as SaaS.

IMO it's almost always good to offer some OIDC social login, just depends what provider your users use.

Check out Ory for a decent Keycloak alternative: https://github.com/ory

Lacerda69··on We aren't close to creating a rapidly self-improving AI
>we dominated and decimated other close species (Homo Neanderthals) thanks to our intelligence

it's a nice homo sapiens supremacy narrative but the truth is much more complicated. we existed at least 4/5 thousand years together and a lot of mixing and mingling has been going on.
